president’s message

As we move into the Win-ter Sports Season, the Booster Club would like to recognize our athletes, coaches, and parents for the recently con-cluded Fall Season, and every-thing that went into making it a successful experience for all involved. Highlighting the ac-complishments, would be our Boys and Girls Cross Country teams both qualifying for the WIAA State Meet! This is the first time that both teams have qualified in the same season – very impressive! To date, the Club has con-tinued to support all sports at GHS, and in the first few months of the year, we have funded requests from the fol-lowing sports: Cheerleading, Boys Basketball, Dance Team, Girls Basketball, Wrestling, Football, Boys Hockey, Girls Volleyball, Cross Country, as well as several items which will enhance the Athletic Depart-ment and our athletic facilities (an example being new wall padding for the gym). In addi-tion, the Booster Club has con-tinued to support the coaches association memberships and education for our coaching staff. In the 2017-18 school year, we anticipate funding approximately $40,000 toward our athletic programs at GHS. In addition to the support

we give our athletic programs, the Booster Club also contin-ues their tradition of awarding $10,000 in scholarships annu-ally, to eleven (11) seniors. Any Senior, whose parents have been active members of the GABC are eligible to apply for these scholarships. To continue to support our athletes and coaches, we need your help. If you are reading this, most likely you are a current member, and for that, we say THANK YOU! Please encourage other parents to join our mission of giving back to GHS Athletics. Without our volunteer members, this would never be possible. You may ask….. How do I join?? What is the cost?? What is my volunteer commitment?? Please see the Membership Ba-sics section of this Newsletter. Finally, we are looking for a number of folks to step for-ward and take on some very important positions, those are highlighted later in the news-letter. Thank you for your consid-eration and participation in the Grafton Athletic Booster Club! Go Black Hawks!Scott ParsonsGABC President

concession stand volunteer opportunities

The Grafton Athletic Booster Club has supported GHS athletes for more than 50 years, and we invite you to be part of this longstanding tradition of support. Members of the booster club are needed to fill shifts in our concession stands for the various sporting events. As we have done for the past few years, we are using sign-up genius as an easy way to sign-up for these shifts. Volunteers are needed for the remainder of the concession stand shifts during the winter sports season. All booster club families are asked to volunteer two shifts per parent, per year. Some

parents prefer to volunteer during their child/children’s sport season while others purposely pick shifts with different sports so that they can watch the games or meets. Either way, parental support is an important part of allowing the GABC to fulfill its mission of supporting all of our athletes. Every bag of popcorn, every hot dog and every order of nachos supports our athletes. Additionally, to qualify for GABC scholarships, families must fulfill these volunteer requirements. Watch your email for the concession stand sign-up information for the spring sports opportunities.

immediate needs for the 2017-18 year Concession Stand Chair: Duties include ordering and purchasing supplies for all concession stands (from Pepsi, Badger Popcorn, Sam’s Club, Meijer and Palermos). Coordinating stocking, cleaning and maintaining all Booster Club owned equipment within concession stands. Working with volunteer coordinator. This role can be shared between two families. The previous concession chair will guide you through the duties this year. Concession Stand Coordinators: Duties per sport could be split between two families; for home games include: opening concession

stand, starting popcorn and food (this takes approximately 20 minutes), closing concession stand (takes approximately 20 minutes), stocking supplies, notifying concession chair of needed supplies, shopping at Meijer to purchase supplies with Booster Club gift cards. You do not need to work in the concession stand during the games. Please contact Gretchen Viesselmann ([email protected]) if you are interested in either of the above positions. Winter/Spring Raffle Chair: The Booster Club runs a Winter and Spring Raffle. Athletes from

those respective sports are asked to sell raffle tickets (if an athlete competes in both seasons, they will only be asked to sell once). The drawings take place in March and in June. The requirements are: getting a list of athletes from the office, getting tickets to all athletes through their sport’s Booster Club Parent Liason. Getting the tickets/money back from the coaches or in the GABC mailbox at school. Accounting for all tickets and turning money over to GABC Treasurer. Conducting drawing at GABC Meeting.
