It has been lovely to be back out at Ashhurst again and, of course, to have daylight to train in. What a great term this has been and nice to see some people take up the opportunity to try a new relationship building course that we ran on a Wednesday evening. A lot of fun was had over the 4 week course with some very positive results. This year has seen a few new courses tried. Nose work courses were introduced and we also had Young Handler classes in the breaks between terms, plus the relationship building course. Over summer we are going to start having group walks on a Thursday evening every 2 nd or 3 rd week. On our walks all dogs must remain on leash and walks will be put up on our facebook page and also on our website. So it would be great to see some of you come along. I would like to thank our instructors for this term, all who volunteer their time to help you and your dogs. I would also like to congratulate members of the club who have done well at Obedience, Breed and Rally-O. Congratulations to all those students who passed their class this term. And to those who didn't quite make it, don't despair, look at how far you and your dog have come this term and don't forget any time spent working with and training your dog is time well spent. Next term starts on the 7 th February and is out at Ashhurst. It is always helpful if you pre-enrol so that we have an idea of numbers. You can do this either by going to www.dogtraining.org.nz or by emailing [email protected]. I would like to take this chance to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and also a Happy New Year. May you and your families have a safe and happy break. Remember as summer progresses that our cars get hot very quickly and we have to be careful not to leave our dogs in them. I trust you have all had an enjoyable term of training and hope to see many of you back next year. Remember training should be fun. Keep up the good work, Robyn

PRESIDENT’S BLOG:-

Gosh it’s hard to believe that Christmas is only a few weeks away and we are at the end of Term 5

of training. It has been lovely to be back out at Ashhurst again and, of course, to have daylight to

train in. What a great term this has been and nice to see some people take up the opportunity to try

a new relationship building course that we ran on a Wednesday evening. A lot of fun was had over

the 4 week course with some very positive results.

Chris Tews

Chris first joined the Club with Fynn, his Springer

Spaniel.

Together they competed in Obedience & Rally-O,

gained Fynn’s Foundation CGC and got hooked on

tracking.

Chris has recently welcomed a new addition to

the family, Chase: a (not so wee any more) Golden

Retriever pup

Welcome to the Club Chase

Instructor / Committee Profile:

Gone but never forgotten

Angus (Angus of Belabi RN)

21.08.2003 to 10.11.2016

Nerolie & Owen Morrison sadly had to make the hard decision to

say Goodbye to their old boy Angus recently. His heart & spirit,

love & loyalty still strong but unfortunately the body was frail.

In his younger days Angus had a go at Competition Obedience

and a go at Agility, but found his forte late in life in the sport

of Rally-O, being the 1st Club dog to gain the title of ‘Rally-O

Novice’ at the age of 11.

But his greatest joy was being with his Mum.

He will be greatly missed and we pass our condolences on to Nerolie, Owen & Nathan

.

Keeva (Keeva Queen of Hearts)

03.10.2003 to 15.11.16

Sadly Robyn Bland also suddenly lost her Keeva.

Keeva was a girl of many talents: performing at dance recitals,

appearing in “Annie”, visiting the elderly and competing in

Obedience with Robyn’s daughter Veronica. She also helped

at our Young Handler nights, working with young handlers

who didn’t have a dog of their own on the night

Keeva touched the hearts of so many & our condolences &

thoughts go out to Robyn, Veronica & Chris

We wish everyone a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year and a safe summer holiday

but do ask that you remember:

CHRISTMAS TIME IS A TIME FOR GIVING BUT NOT FOR GIVING OUR DOGS SCRAPS OFF

THE CHRISTMAS DINNER TABLE SOME OF THE RICH FOODS WE HAVE AT CHRISTMAS CAN CAUSE

DOGS BAD TUMMY UPSETS

Also be mindful about hanging chocolates on the tree, Fido will often help himself and chocolate

can be fatal for dogs

Over the SUMMER

sometimes it’s best to leave your dogs at home
