ANOTHER YEAR HAS GONANOTHER YEAR HAS GONANOTHER YEAR HAS GONANOTHER YEAR HAS GONE BYE BYE BYE BY With lots of events for raising money for Cleft Care, like Coffee-
mornings, Quiz-night, EWAS-bazar, Theme-night, Walk-a-thon, Golf-
tournament, donations from several companies. Even a photo-shoot
with Santa Claus, who could spare a little of his time to have children
and their families to take pictures with him.
Also the year we became a real foundation, according to Indonesian
law. The installing of the board-members as presented in the April-
newsletter. We have our own Facebook-page now, which people visit
and can learn more about our Foundation and the stories of the
children.
But let ‘s not dwell in the past, there is a New Year to come, a year we
look forward to, because we will again have lots of opportunities to
help bring the smiles to the children of East Java. Thanks to all the
wonderful donors and volunteers who help us with this beautiful task.
But special thanks to our well-trained staff, for whom we are very
grateful they work for us.

A SIMPLE STORY WITH A VALUABLE OUTCOMEA SIMPLE STORY WITH A VALUABLE OUTCOMEA SIMPLE STORY WITH A VALUABLE OUTCOMEA SIMPLE STORY WITH A VALUABLE OUTCOME
Zein was an 8 months old baby boy with a cleft lip. Unfortunately his parents and extended family didn’t
know where to turn to get help until his grandfather met one of our donors, Mr David, who passed on our
contact details. The family immediately got in touch with us and we were able to make a home visit very
quickly.
As Zein was very healthy we were able to arrange surgery at one of our partner hospitals almost straight
away and within two weeks of the home visit it was done! As you can see it is a very good result and the
whole family is very happy.
A postscript to this story: When Zein’s grandfather brought him to the office for his post-surgery review,
he told us that he works for a non-government organization that observes and monitors health service
quality. So he will spread the word about CCI services wherever he goes, this simple act helping us to
arrange surgery quickly for our patients, looking forward to the day when no otherwise healthy child has to
wait.
MILES FOR MILES FOR MILES FOR MILES FOR
SMILESSMILESSMILESSMILES What a nice slogan!
Every mile a student
walked meant a
certain amount of
money for Cleft
Care and on the
27th of November
all the students of
SIS participated in
this Walk-A-Thon. A
lot of miles were
walked and so a lot
of money was
raised this way. We
hope soon these
miles will be
changed into smiles.
YOGYAKARTA
On 3 October Clara and Endang went to
Yogyakarta to share the knowledge of Cleft
Care with 10 dentists and 1 oral surgeon. The
participants were very enthusiastic about this
training, which was about pre- and post-
surgery care.
NEW COOPERATIONNEW COOPERATIONNEW COOPERATIONNEW COOPERATION
Rumah Sakit Columbia Asia – Semarang is a general hospital that is
located in Semarang, within the Province of East Java.
Cleft Care Indonesia knows about this hospital from one of the
patients. Clara & Emma visited the hospital on 27 November to talk
about a new cooperation. They met with Ibu Stella Maria - customer
care executive and Ibu Indah Wijayani - marketing executive.
Ibu Indah explained that the hospital already does cleft surgery since
last year (2014) and operated 26 cleft patients until now. The
hospital got the funds from companies in terms of Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR). They have a social worker and a general doctor
who visits the patient to check the health condition. They also
provide shuttle service for patients, they pick up the patient in their
house and bring them to the hospital.
Clara explained about Cleft Care and what we do, what we give to
our patients. The staff of RS Columbia Asia would like to start a
collaboration to help cleft children. The hospital will inform CCI
about the new cleft children and CCI will help them with our services
(pre- & post-surgery care and supply nutrition packages if needed).
CCI will send the supply to the patients by post.
We all hope this collaboration will work well.

Once again a group of wonderful
ladies from the Japan Club visited the

staff, and volunteers Yani and Manju,
they brought with them a total of 21
boxes of milk, 5 tins of Pediasure milk
and 30 spoon feeders.
Thank you so much ladies for your
continued support and generosity.
Your practical help makes a difference
to children waiting for surgery.

Due to the fact that most of our volunteers are
expats the foundation is known in quite a few
countries outside Indonesia. As these volunteers
travel home regularly, to Europe for instance, it
happened twice this year they came back to
Indonesia, not only with their suitcases full of
things from their home country, but also with
money or the promise to raise money for the
foundation.
The Inner Wheel Club (Rotary) from Steinerwald,
South Germany, presented to Katrin, a very
inspired lady, living here in Surabaya and visiting
her parents during summer, a check of IDR
5.000.000 for our foundation. Many thanks for
this generous donation.
Un Nouveau Sourire ( A new Smile) is a new
French non-profit organization, created in
September near Lyon by a group of young retired
women, inspired by our board member and
volunteer Marie Jo. There first mission will be to
help Cleft Care Indonesia collecting money for
our actions. Marie Jo, as a French citizen living in
Indonesia, will be able to meet this group twice a
year and make the connection between the 2
organizations.
We welcome "Un Nouveau Sourire" and wish
them success in there project. We will help them
to build up French documentation which will
present our foundation and our actions.
