Ewer had a clear vision for the solid foundation he wanted to build in Fort Bend, and in the past 10 years, he’s meticulously transformed his vision into a reality. One might say Ewer has created a Legacy of service, both to his customers and to his community. Even after he acquired the 62,000-square-foot, $6.5 million building that fea-tured a Quick Lane service center, a café and a large waiting area featuring two VIP lounges, Ewer took a step fur-ther and provided employment for the entire prior workforce of Dub Miller, thereby opening up job opportunities in Fort Bend.

Ewer’s goal was simple: To create an extended family at Legacy Ford, one that would build tight connections to the community and maintain the tradi-tions of the area. Ten years later, Ewer has clearly achieved his goal.

Today, Ewer is even more ambitious than his 29-year-old self who worked his way from cleaning cars at a deal-

ership in Dallas, Texas to working in the finance department of that par-ticular dealership. He’s also wiser and more experienced than he was when he moved to Houston, Texas in 1997 to open the Planet Ford dealership, which he ultimately became partner of in 2000 and built into the largest Ford dealership in the nation. Ewer’s ambi-tions only grew when he sold his inter-est in Randall Reed Ford and Planet Ford and branched out on his own to open Legacy Ford.

In 2011, Ewer expanded Legacy Ford with a 15,000-square-foot body shop and 10 service bays featuring the latest in technology in efforts to pro-vide a higher-quality work at a faster pace, and when the customer shopping

trend began to change from visiting the dealership to pursuing deals online, Legacy Ford met its customers on the World Wide Web. Not only did the deal-ership begin posting prices and photos of its vehicles online, it also created an app for Apple and Android users giving them the ability to shop whether they were at home or not.

Customers are always the focus of every one of Ewer’s decisions, and be-cause of that, Legacy Ford has been named a four-time winner of the Ford Motor Company’s Presidents Award — a prestigious award, which is based upon outstanding customer feedback. Legacy Ford has earned the Top 100 Ford Dealerships award six times, and starting in 2010, it was honored as the state’s only Motor Trend Certified Advantage Dealer. In 2010, Ewer was awarded Business Person of the Year by the Central Fort Bend Chamber Al-liance.

More Than Just a Dealership

The legacy Ewer built isn’t based solely on recognition from selling high-quality vehicles and offering superior services. He was determined to stand for something more profound as any good businessman does, and to say the least, Fort Bend has benefited greatly from Ewer’s determinations.

Former Rosenberg Mayor Vincent Morales said Legacy Ford deserves credit for enhancing the economy in Rosenberg. “During my four years as Mayor, we saw Legacy Ford grow its customer base with its marketing out-side of just Rosenberg,” Morales said.

“Targeting customers in other sur-rounding communities brought aware-ness to what Rosenberg had to offer in shopping, dining and living options. This attraction of customers that may never have come to Rosenberg other-wise added to our economy, along with possible consideration of relocating just for what Rosenberg had to offer. We appreciate not only the impact Legacy Ford had on our economy but their gen-erous investment back into the commu-nity making it a better place for all.”

Ford enter into a long-term partner-ship with Lamar Consolidated ISD and construct the district’s marquee, it also sponsored a new score board for Needville ISD’s high school. In 2010, the dealership raised thousands of dollars for Foster High School pro-grams, simply because Ewer felt the struggling economy was making school fundraising hard, and school programs shouldn’t suffer because of tough times.

As residents of Sienna Plantation, the Ewer family has served as a 10 year sponsor of youth sports in the community, and they were among the first to step up and support Sienna’s new high school: Ridge Point High School. Ewer was the first honoree in the Purple Jacket Team, and Legacy participated as the fireworks sponsor. Juliana is currently serving in her fifth year as the Panther Pride Booster Ball Chair raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for the school, and she served four years as the team mom for the Ridge Point High School Varsity Swim Team. Legacy has also entered into a 10 year agreement with Sienna Plan-tation LID and has pitched six score-boards in Sienna fields.

again by joining with various commu-nity partners to host a band benefit. Ewer personally took calls at the deal-ership from anyone who wanted to help with the fundraiser, which was held in the Legacy showroom. “Being involved with the community and to support Fort Bend County has been a top pri-ority for Legacy Ford since day one,” Ewer said.

This past summer, Legacy Ford was awarded the Frank M. Adams Commu-nity Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service. The award is given to a com-pany that distinguishes themselves as people who love, care and show com-passion for people with intellectual disabilities. Legacy earned this award through its partnership with the Tex-ana Center, a nonprofit organization that provides behavioral health care and developmental disabilities ser-vices, where the dealership also leads on the center’s Community Advisory Board.

In the past six years, Legacy has sponsored and attended scores of Tex-ana events, hosted events in its show-room to benefit the center and has employed Texana clients. During his speech at the Texas Council on Com-munity Centers’ Annual Conference in Houston, which is where Legacy was given this award, CEO of Texana Center George Patterson expressed his gratitude for the Legacy Ford attitude and his board member, Ron Ewer.

“Nominating Legacy Ford for this award is just a small way in which we and all of the Texas Community Cen-ters can say thank you,” said Patter-son. “I can think of no other company that deserves this award more than Legacy Ford. We hope that our com-

Two years later, Legacy did the same thing for George Ranch High School, and when the Lamar Consoli-dated High School Band announced it was invited to play at Carnegie Hall but had many students who were hav-ing a tough time raising the money to participate, Legacy Ford swooped in

A Trusted PartnerLegacy Ford is more than a family-

owned community dealership; it has grown into a symbol of trust and sup-port for Richmond, Rosenberg, Sugar Land and all surrounding communities and has become one of the most trusted business partners for nonprofits, school districts and charities. Each year, the dealership donates more than $130,000 to over a dozen nonprofits in Fort Bend, and its employees volunteer at almost all of those nonprofits during work and personal time.

“Legacy Ford strives to be involved in long-term relationships with the community, and not simply a donor there to toss money around and disap-pear tomorrow,” said Ewer. “Legacy is here to provide financial support, but we are also here to be involved and con-tinue to support on many levels.”

From abused children and senior citizens to local students and the dis-abled, Legacy Ford has found ways to improve lives throughout Fort Bend in a big way. Supporting schools and youth has been an important part of Ewer’s Legacy. Not only did Legacy

Fort Bend Child Advocates, the American Red Cross-Greater Houston Chapter, the Fort Bend Women’s Cen-ter, Arc of Fort Bend, the Fort Bend Hispanic Heritage Forum, Fort Bend Rainbow Room, the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Department and the City of Rosenberg Police Department can also attest to the support Legacy Ford has offered over the years.

board and the dealership’s employees have delivered meals themselves. “Our partnership with Legacy Ford goes be-yond what most business partners do,” Arroyos said.

And partnerships describes not only their community support, but Legacy Ford’s team. Since joining the Legacy team, General Manager Patrick Sex-ton, wife Emma and family have sup-ported the Ewer’s vision every step of the way. “Patrick is a partner who has made it possible to do everything we have done,” said Ewer. “He and his family are very involved in our commu-nity outreach, and he shares our vision at Legacy.”

Symbol for Success

Aside from the financial and commu-nity-strengthening impact Legacy Ford has had on the Fort Bend community, Legacy has been a symbol of business done the right way. Former Rosenberg Mayor Joe Gurecky (1999-2011) has witnessed Legacy’s impact on the community from the very beginning. “When Ron arrived in Rosenberg, he immediately began building long-term relationships with not only his custom-ers but with important organizations in our community,” said Gurecky. “As a business leader, he has used his skills to better Rosenberg by serving in many leadership roles. Ron is definitely a role model for businesses in our com-munity, and we are proud that he chose Rosenberg to build a legacy we can all appreciate.”

“I believe to be a successful busi-nessman, as well as a husband and father, you must always have time for

Legacy also contributes to the Rosenberg/Richmond Girls Softball As-sociation and the Rosenberg National Little League Association, and since 2009, Legacy has hosted a donation drive for the community that benefits the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Chances are if there is a community fundraiser happening, Legacy Ford is a sponsor.

There just aren’t many businesses like Legacy Ford, said Manuela Ar-royos, CEO of Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels, which has partnered with Legacy Ford for years. In addition to donating vehicles to the nonprofit to de-liver meals, Legacy Ford also serves in leadership positions on the nonprofit’s

what you put first,” Ewer said. Priori-ties, like his family, always get Ewer’s devotion. He’s been married to his wife Juliana for 20 years and both of them volunteer at various organizations throughout Fort Bend. The couple has two teenage boys, who spend plenty of time with their father hunting, play-ing sports and traveling. Brandon is a swimmer at Rider University in New Jersey, and Cameron is a junior at Ridge Point High School.

“My goal,” Ewer said, “is to have a healthy balance and never neglect my family or my community in the pursuit of success.”

The first 10 years of Legacy Ford can definitely be called a success, but what do the next 10 years bring for this business steeped in the traditional val-ues of community and family? “We will continue to do what we have done and increase our reach to help even more organizations and individuals in Fort Bend,” said Ewer. “I feel that we have learned what works and what doesn’t work, and I hope that our community will continue in their support so we can continue to pay it forward.”

T o celebrate a decade’s worth of service to the community and its presence in Fort Bend, Legacy Ford owners Ron and Juliana Ewer and General Manager Patrick Sexton and wife

Emma have invited the public to join them at an anniversary celebration at Legacy Ford, located at 27225 Southwest Freeway in Rosenberg on Friday, November 20th at 5:30 pm.

Aside from the free food and drinks at this community-wide celebration, Legacy Ford will give away a new Ford Mustang and donate $10,000 to a Fort Bend nonprofit. To register to win the Mustang, visit www.legacyfordtx.com, email [email protected] or connect with Legacy Ford on social media.

The $10,000 donation is open to all Fort Bend 501(c)(3) nonprofits. A committee will vote on applications and a representative of the nonprofit must be present at the event to win. The funds must also stay in Fort Bend County.

For more information about Legacy Ford’s “Ten Years Strong” celebration or to obtain an application for the $10,000 giveaway, contact Eloise Lucas at [email protected].

In a cardiac emergency, a fast, comprehensive response can be the difference between life and death. That’s why our Heart & Vascular Center offers the most advanced cardiac care program in the area.

In fact, we’re the only hospital in the Fort Bend area to provide 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week interventional cardiology and cardiac surgery services. Also, because we consistently exceed national standards in the most critical components of cardiac care, we’re a nationally accredited chest pain center.

In a cardiac emergency, there’s only one place you need to be — Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital. That’s the difference between practicing medicine and leading it.

tradition,” said First Lady Abbott. “All across Texas – from our busy urban centers to our treasured small towns – it is in our downtowns where the past, present and future meet, and a sense of community grows. Thank you all for helping to make Texas such an extraor-dinary place to call home.”

Abbott was joined by state and lo-cal officials, local business owners, volunteers and dozens of residents ea-ger to see the Main Street vision for Rosenberg. The First Lady addressed

event attendees and unveiled an archi-tectural rendering of the Main Street plans for Downtown Rosenberg.

The Texas Historical Commission’s Texas Main Street Program is a revi-talization program for historic down-town and neighborhood commercial districts. Today, there are 87 official Texas Main Street programs. The pro-grams are in communities of all sizes, ranging from less than 2,000 to more than 240,000 in population and in all areas of Texas.

Holiday Happeningsin Richmond and Rosenberg

G ather up your families and spend time together making special memories to last throughout the

year. Richmond and Rosenberg are helping make the holidays special with several spectacular Christmas events in the heart of Brazos. Ho, ho, ho!

Rosenberg Christmas Nights

R ing in the 2015 holiday season with Rosenberg Christ-mas Nights in Historic Downtown Rosenberg. This re-

imagined holiday event will feature two evenings of merri-ment for all ages on Friday, December 4th from 5 to 8 pm and Saturday, December 5th from 5 to 8 pm, set against the backdrop of Rosenberg’s historic downtown and cultural dis-trict. Rosenberg Christmas Nights is a partnership between the City, the Rosenberg Cultural District and downtown Rosenberg businesses. In addition to the specially planned events, visitors are invited to explore the charming shops, visit the cultural exhibits and dine on local delicacies, illumi-nated with the glow and magic of the season.

On Friday, December 4th, families are invited to watch the Lighting of the City Christmas Tree, listen to holiday music provided by the Rosenberg Symphonic Band and enjoy a free family movie in 3rd Street Park, located at 817 3rd Street in Historic Downtown Rosenberg. In addition, visitors may enjoy dinner and theatre packages with the purchase of a ticket. Throughout the evening, guests can shop and dine in Historic Downtown Rosenberg.

On Saturday, December 5th, bring the kids out for pic-tures with Santa and Mrs. Claus, trackless train rides, ac-tivities at the Rosenberg Railroad Museum, Stage Coach Children’s Theatre performances and a family movie in 3rd Street Park. Throughout the evening, enjoy holiday activities and treats throughout the downtown businesses, as well as shopping, dining and more.

For more information on Rosenberg Christmas Nights, visit www.CityofRosenberg.com/RCN.

Project Noel

F or more than 40 years, the Richmond State Supported Living Center (RSSLC) has delighted visitors of all ages

with Project Noel, a collection of Christmas displays featur-ing holiday favorites from Santa Claus to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Children who first saw the project blossom in the early 1970s now bring their children and grandchil-dren to see more than 40 holiday scenes that light up and decorate the 241 acre campus, located at 2100 Preston in Richmond. Lighted displays continue nightly Friday, Novem-ber 27th through Friday, January 1, 2016. Daily hours are from 6 to 9 pm. There is no admission cost to join this festive, fun family outing.

Santa and his elves will visit with families December 4th through 6th and 11th through 13th from 6 to 9 pm. Give San-ta your wish list and have a picture made to remember the wonderful evening. Printed pictures will be available for $5 each – or bring your own camera to capture the memories! Plus, there are photo opportunities all around campus to take pictures with the amazing displays.

Project Noel is provided by the Volunteer Services Council (VSC) of the RSSLC. If your business or group would like to adopt an existing display for refurbishing or create a new display for next season, contact 281-344-4335.

and Saturday, December 5th for the annual Candlelight Tours of the 1883 John M. Moore home at 500 Houston Street in Richmond. This year’s theme is To Grandmother’s House We Go: A 1950s-era Moore Family Christmas. “The Moores had grandchildren in the 1950s, so the kids were going to Grand-mother’s house,” said Candlelight Tours Chairman Letha Wood.

Guests will experience the sights and sounds of a mid-century Christmas during this year’s tours, and each room in the historic home will be decorated with all of the trimmings of the season. Complimentary wassail and cookies will also be served. Tours will run from 6 to 8 pm on December 4th and from 2 to 8 pm on December 5th.

The annual Candlelight Tours are sponsored by the Fort Bend Museum docents, and all proceeds benefit the educational and preservation efforts of the Fort Bend Museum. Tickets are

$6 for adults, $5 for seniors and $4 for children. Visit www.fortbendmuseum.org or call 281-342-6478 for more infor-mation on the Candlelight Tours.

Then on December 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th, the George Ranch Histori-cal Park will host its annual Campfire Christmas for an unforgettable eve-ning of hearty food, Texas traditions and Christmas cheer on the Ranch, located at 10215 FM 762 in Richmond.

Guests will enjoy a multi-era holiday meal complete with 1930s cowboy mu-sic. After dinner, guests will jump back in time to visit a “newly-built” log cabin on Christmas Eve 1825. “Old 300” set-tlers Henry and Nancy Jones will share

what life was like as a Texas pioneer on the wild frontier and will teach visitors about the early Welsh Christmas tradi-tions of their ancestors.

Next, guests will jump forward 44 years to an 1869 campfire as the local cowboys pay a visit. Hot cider and cof-fee will be served as the conversation turns to the growing systems of share-cropping and cattle drives of the era.

The final stop will be the Davis Victorian Mansion for a festive family Christmas in 1888. “Guests will learn about the changes the family under-went in this critical year – and about special Victorian traditions,” said Di-rector of Programs Krystal Willeby.

Campfire Christmas is recommend-ed for adults and children ages eight and up. Reservations are required and are non-refundable. Tickets are $50 for adults and $45 for children, seniors and groups of 10 or more. For younger children, a special Children’s Campfire Christmas event will be held on Thurs-day, December 17th at 6 pm and in-cludes a light dinner, Christmas crafts, a hayride through the park and singing Christmas songs around the campfire.

The lights are hung. The trees are up. Folks have their snow shovels ready and chains on their tires. Well, they do in places far north of Fort Bend. While snow may not be falling, it is the season of feasts and family, of days set apart because they are spe-cial, different and holy.

It is encouraging to remember that Jesus was born into a family with more than its share of interesting characters, like his wild cousin John, his mom who seemed too young and strange visitors who showed up with gifts that needed explanation.

This December, those at Faith Unit-ed Methodist Church will get to know some of these interesting characters who had a role in the original Christ-mas story and reflect on what it means for the story God is calling them to live.

Located at 4600 FM 359, just west of Pecan Grove in Richmond, Faith United Methodist Church is a place to give thanks, ask questions and look for hope as people decorate, gather for special meals and sing by candlelight, because they believe the birth of Jesus changed the world. Anyone who could use a bit more hope, meaning and joy is invited to come.

Sunday worship times are 8:30 am for The Table in the Chapel with com-munion, 9 am for the Traditional Ser-vice in the Worship Center, 10 am for The Branch in the Chapel and 11 am for The Vine in the Worship Center. Nursery is available for birth through Pre-K.

HOT SHOTHigh School

“I live my life with one thing in mind: focus. For me, I always concentrate onbettering myself as a Christian, student, leader, athlete and person in general.”

– Chase Ligon

Calvary Episcopal Preparato-ry in Richmond is a unique private school that provides

superior education while inspiring “Reverence, Respect and Responsi-bility.” The administration focuses on graduating students with high academic status and moral fiber. One senior who has achieved un-precedented success during his high school career is Chase Ligon.

Chase is ranked first in his se-nior class with a grade point aver-age (GPA) of 4.0 unweighted and 4.6 weighted. He has achieved numerous awards, including GPA High Point Scholar in Math, English, Spanish and French. As president of the Na-tional Honor Society, president of the Model United Nations Plenary Committee and lead student ambas-sador, Chase is a leader. He is also fully engaged in student council. He has been a school representative all four years and treasurer as a sopho-more, vice president as a junior and president this year. Chase earned the Outstanding Leadership Award.

When asked why being a lead-er is fulfilling to him, Chase said, “Coming in as a freshman, I never saw myself as a leader. But when I got here, I realized that I was born to lead. At Calvary, directing one thing means leading everything. To be the student who teachers come to when they need something gave me the responsibility to be the person in charge. Leadership in general has been my forte. I enjoy being a leader because I love to see what goes on behind the scenes and how things work. It has been fulfilling to coor-dinate projects and plan events and

trips. When something runs smoothly and everyone enjoys it, you take spe-cial pride in knowing that you put it together.”

Chase is the choir president, drama club stage manager and donates his free time to Peer-Assisted Learning Strategies (PALS). He received a Youth in Philanthropy scholarship award and the Outstanding Aid student award, and he was a Persuasive Speaking dis-trict finalist all three years and state finalist the past two years. When asked what value he lives by, Chase said, “I live my life with one thing in mind: fo-cus. For me, I always concentrate on bettering myself as a Christian, stu-dent, leader, athlete and person in gen-eral. I feel like if I’m not focusing, then I’m wasting my time. To me, if you’re motivated to do the right things, then you can’t go wrong.”

With over 500 volunteer hours, Chase is devoted to community ser-vice. He volunteers at the Houston Beacon, and in September, he became a confirmed Catholic at St. Laurence Catholic Church. Chase said what he will treasure most about his high

school experience is, “The people I’ve met and grown with. Everyone has a different story. I have learned so much about how other people view life and where they’re from. I know someone from almost every walk of life and have learned so much about cultures and diversity. It has really taught me the importance of getting to know people beyond their name and face. The multiplicity of every-one I’ve met while in high school has made it such an incredible experi-ence, and I can’t wait to meet more people in college.”

Chase

Chase has applied to the Univer-sity of Miami, Louisiana State Uni-versity, Tulane, Baylor, Southern Methodist University, Texas State University and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. He will major in Kinesiology and Athletic Training with a possible minor in Business. Congratulations on your leadership abilities and generosity Chase, and good luck as you take the next step in your life.

T here is something about hear-ing music that calms the nerves and soothes the soul.

During the early days of Fort Bend County, settlers made their own mu-sical instruments and found time be-tween the harvests and during the hol-idays to meet in the town square and share their talents, relax and sing. The highlight of the day was when the chil-dren sang. Hearing a child’s voice, so pure and innocent, can move an adult to tears. For 33 years, the residents of Fort Bend have been fortunate to experience the unified harmonies of a group of exceptional young boys known as the Fort Bend Boys Choir. The organization’s history and accom-plishments is illuminating.

As a boy living in Phoenix, Arizona, Artistic Director William R. Adams was considered a rebellious youth who was always getting into trou-ble. He auditioned and became a member of the boys choir at his school. The choir’s struc-ture and discipline helped mold him into a youth with high esteem and confidence, which in-stilled in Adams the drive to become a successful individual. As he matured, he became focused and efficacious. He attended college and married. Ad-ams moved to Houston with his wife in 1975 and became engaged working with the Big Brother and Big Sister or-ganization. In 1982, he moved to Mis-souri City and had a vision to begin the first boys choir organization in Fort Bend County.

“I wanted to give talented boys with special musical ability an opportunity to develop their gift by challenging

A LITTLE PIECEOF HISTORYBy Joan Frances

them to sing anything from classical selections to folk music,” Adams said. He also knew what this experience did for him as a troubled youth. He ob-tained approval from Fort Bend Inde-pendent School District to solicit male students ages six to 12 years to audi-tion to be a member of the choir. This organization started with 45 members and is now one of the largest indepen-dent boys choir in the world with over 150 choristers.

The Fort Bend Boys Choir has achieved overwhelming national suc-cess. They have performed for three United States presidents, as well as at the opera, symphony orchestras, in well-known cathedrals and concert halls including The Kennedy Center and the Sistine Chapel with Pope John Paul II in attendance. The Tour Choir was celebrated at the 1989 inaugura-tion of President George Bush, the opening ceremonies of the 1986 United States Olympics and the 1993 Spoleto Choral Festival. They were the only choral ensemble in the United States to perform at the White House during

the 2001 Pageant of Peace lighting of the National Christmas Tree. They are also famous for performing The Star Spangled Banner throughout the Unit-ed States.

As The Fort Bend Boys Choir con-tinues to grow in popularity, public support is exceedingly gratifying. The Tour Choir collaborated with the Texas Men’s Choir and will be releasing nine CD recordings for Universal-Sony Stu-dios in early 2016. They are in high demand for concert performances, com-mercials, television specials, weddings and conventions. In June 2016, the choir will travel to Minnesota for a two-week summer performance tour.

The Fort Bend Boys Choir is one of the finest programs in the country. The magnificent union of young voices is en-lightening and heartfelt. The work and pride of these students is evident, and their performances are breathtaking. Auditions will be Saturday, December 12th from 9 am to noon at First United Methodist Church in Missouri City.
