I missed the last Silver Strings meeting and the elections as I needed to pick up my sister that evening from Sedona in order to attend my Grandson's wedding on Saturday. My job has been so much easier with Marsha Kozlowski as music coordinator. She has been a real help with the playlists and planning new music to present to the club. I am looking forward to all the playdates in December - it will be a marathon of sorts. Some of you have been looking forward to "Erie Ice Daze" at Lake Erie Metro Park in January. I want to thank all of you for re-electing me as VP-Business. It's a busy and interesting job and a real learning curve on the computer. I missed the last Silver Strings meeting and the elections as I needed to pick up my sister that evening from Sedona in order to attend my Grandson's wedding on Saturday. From the VP PROGRAMS__________Wade Mullins with Maureen Mullins

As we are winding down for the year we have a few last minute reminders:

December 17th

– Christmas Potluck – The club will provide the meat and beverages. Letters A – L please bring a side dish and letters M – Z bring a dessert.

December 31st

– No meeting/Variety night is canceled

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for this past year and a half. Maureen and I took over when Marie passed away and we had big shoes to fill. In her usual manner Marie kept everything in her head and we had a lot of details to figure out. With the help guidance and advice of many we were able to do just that and carry on. I think she’d be proud of how things have gone. We’ve had great participation in all of the events. The picnic at Garden City Park has been well attended and the Campout at Meyers Lake this year had more participants than it’s had in years (Hint - get you’re reservations in as soon as it’s announced for a prime campsite next year). We’ve enjoyed being part of the board and helping to plan the events of the past year but it’s time for someone else to take over. We are very confident that they, like us, with a little help will manage just fine. We would like to wish you all a blessed holiday season and a happy and safe New Year!

IT’S DECEMBER...LET’S CELEBRATE !

BIRTHDAYS

If you don’t see your name here for your birthday or anniversary please let me know. Lee

FROM THE TREASURER’S BOX:

Membership: Thanks to all of you who have renewed your membership. As of this writing, we are at 56 members. This is a good sign and indicates not only what a bargain membership to Silver Strings is but its value in our musical life as well. Where else can you belong to such a fine club for such a reasonable cost?

If you are in contact with members who we haven’t seen in a while, invite them back. If you have friends who play acoustic instruments, give them a personal invitation to join us. It would be nice to be over 100 members again.

Renewing members can renew at our next jams. And for those who cannot attend, you may renew by mail. Send your $15 dollar check to: Terry Kozlowski, Treasurer, 45880 Denise Drive, Plymouth, MI. 48170.

• FYI – made our semi-annual donation to Good Hope Lutheran Church. We are fortunate to have this place for our meetings and even some extra events.

• SSDS hats and T-shirts are available. These would make great Christmas gifts.

• Don’t forget our CD’s. At $5.00 each, they’re great stocking stuffers.

Our club will be participating in a number of holiday gigs. Hope to see you there. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Terry Kozlowski

MUSIC COORDINATOR NOTES_Marsha Kozlowski

Speaking of Music I write this after a SSDS jam so if you were there, you heard it. If not, it is something to know before our next jam.

Tune of the Month – we will play the current and previous tune of the month at the beginning of each jam after Westphalia Waltz. This is to make sure we work on it as a group. So at the December 17

th jam, be ready to

play: Schottische du Stockfish (watch the syncopation in part B) and Pickin’ the Berries. They are fun tunes to play.

Cherokee Shuffle – this has been in our repertoire for a long time but is not played very often. It was called last night and people liked it so much they suggested we should play it more often. So move it to the top of your pile to play at home and someone call to play it again.

Muss I Denn – this easy tune will be very recognizable to audiences. It is also called “Wooden Heart.” I would like to add to the February playlist in time for any Valentine Day gigs. It is in Dropbox so if you haven’t tried it – please do. Let’s see what we can do with it.

Classical Practice – we will meet Jan. 17th at 6:00 prior

to regular jam. We will work on the Vivaldi piece and review the Beethoven. The dream is to get this good enough to perform at Evart. If we start in January – maybe that will happen. Start your new year by getting these pieces out, dust them off and let’s see what we can do. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Marsha

Dulcimer for Sale

This hammered dulcimer was made by Bill Webster of Michigan. It has 3 octaves chromatic, with cut out holes in shape of unicorns, painted by the previous owner who owned her own Air Brush store and was quite an artist. We are asking $700. It has a case and many hammers. We are in the Windsor, Ontario area and would be willing to bring it over to any interested buyers. She had a collection of instruments including a handmade banjo, slide guitar and 3 fiddles and Celtic/lever harp. If any members have an interest in those instruments contact:

Anita Leschied: [email protected]
