December President’s Message

Happy Holidays and Cheers to the New Year!

Dear IIA Members,

As we take this holiday season to show the ones we care about our ap-

preciation for them, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for

supporting the WNY IIA Chapter and making it as successful as it is each

and every year. I would also like to thank the Officers and Board for

their continued hard work and dedicated service to the Chapter. Looking

back on 2014 and the programs we’ve had, I am thrilled with the quality

of speakers and interesting topics of discussion, which we will continue

to strive to provide.

To keep the success going, I hope you will join us on January 14, 2014 for

the annual IIA/ISACA all-day IT Seminar. This is a great opportunity to

start the new year off with a bang and 8 hours’ worth of CPEs. We have

some terrific speakers lined up to bring you the latest going on in the IT

realm. The IIA and ISACA are thrilled to have Jonathan Dambrot of Prev-

alent and David Stender of M&T Bank as our keynote speakers, bringing

their extensive experience and knowledge to the table. If you have not

already registered, please see the flyer on pg. 2 for the link.

In the coming year, we look forward to sharing some exciting events and

opportunities to advance your Audit career. During this holiday season,

on behalf of the WNY IIA Officers and Board, we wish you and your fami-

ly health, happiness, and prosperity now and throughout the new year.

Warmest wishes,

Len Soldano

Derek Mosher, CISA, is an IT Audit Manager at M&T Bank. He is responsible for overseeing the IT audit activities for various lines of business and coordinating the entire lifecycle in conjunction with financial audit teams. Derek’s portfolio includes all aspects of the Bank’s lending services (Mortgage and Con-sumer Lending, Commercial Real Estate and Commercial Lending, and Credit Administration) as well as the Banking Services division. He is also on the board for the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) of Western New York and the Council on Accountancy’s AIS Subcommittee at Canisius College. Derek began his career with Protiviti, a global business consulting and internal audit services firm, in Boston, MA and later in New York, NY after graduating from Canisius College with dual Bachelor of Sci-ence Degrees in Accounting and Accounting Information Systems. While at Protiviti, Derek’s industry experience included manufacturing, banking, property and casualty insurance, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, print and online media, and medical devices. In this role, he performed Sarbanes-Oxley as-sessments and provided a number of different technology solutions to assist clients in dealing with an array of business challenges. Some of his experience included privacy impact analyses against applica-ble domestic and global regulations, compliance testing for Basel II requirements around financial mod-els supporting credit, market, and operational risk management, and global program management over a portfolio of information security projects for a multinational insurance company. Upon moving back to Buffalo and getting married in 2012, Derek joined PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Risk Assurance practice where he managed the external assurance services for a number of publicly and privately held clients around the Lake Erie market in addition to providing consulting services. During this time, he focused on Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 reviews for financial statement reporting and executing en-gagements involving process mapping and process improvement to identify opportunities to gain effi-ciencies and implement controls. Derek and his wife live in Lancaster and have a miniature dachshund named Lexington (after the street they lived on in Manhattan). During his free time, Derek is a technology enthusiast and likes to golf, travel, enjoy all things food, wine, and beer related, and watch all Buffalo sports (for better or for worse).
