OUR
I cannot believe it is December already. My father used to say “the older you get the faster times goes”. I must be old enough, because this year has sped by.
Christmas will be upon us in no time, and it is such a special time of year. When thinking of Christmas I think of all the traditions: special Christmas services, caroling, decorating the tree and our homes, baking cookies, shopping and wrapping gifts, and family and friends dropping in to visit.
Auxiliary members will visit the patients in Memorial Hospital and take them a small gift on Friday, December 19th. As volunteers we did this last year and the patients seemed to be very appreciative. It is very important that we as volunteers are especially kind and attentive to our patients at this time of year, as we do all year. Being sick and away from home during the holidays is very difficult for them.
Thank you to those of you that participated in our Christmas Bake Sale. The hospital staff are so appreciative and so enjoy the delicious cakes, cookies and snacks. The Gift Shop was very busy on Monday, November 3. We had special discounted items. Also, the shop was open for the night shift’s convenience from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thanks to all who volunteered to be Santa’s helpers by working the late shift. There were requests from the employees to open the Gift Shop from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. again.
Welcome to our new slate of officers
for 2015: Mary Ann Silhavy, President; Dolores Miller, Vice-President; Kim Brede, Recording/Financial Secretary; and Marge Giedemann, Corresponding Secretary.
And last, but not least, I wish to thank everyone for making my year as President something very special. Everyone was willing to serve when asked and offered their assistance when it was needed. This was quite a learning experience for me and I so enjoyed it.
I am looking forward to next year and all the excitement that goes with building and planning for our new Memorial East Hospital as it continues to be erected! Auxiliary volunteers will be an important part of its completion in 2016 and as they continue to be here at Belleville’s Memorial Hospital.
Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. The holidays will be lively at the Jaskowiak Christmas this year. Vince and I have five great grandchildren, the oldest being six.
Recipe for happy life: live simply, be grateful, love more, dream big, laugh lots and have faith.
