In a very practical way, Advent is about waiting for a baby. Take away all the pagentry, the spiritual reflection and you have a tradi-tion of faithful people waiting on a baby. This year that theological exercise takes on a unique experience as my family and I wait for a baby. In this pursuit I've noticed something about waiting. It in-volves the concepts of preparation and welcome. Very often it seems like people's focus fixates on one of these concepts without regard or intentionality towards the other. With our first child, we were obsessed with the preparation. We read the books, prac-ticed the breathing and set up the nursery. The baby came and it took all of a few hours to realize that we did not know how to wel-come the child. Emily and I had had no conversations about the changes we'd have to make to our lives that would actually reflect the blessing before us. Our lives were still so adult. Thankfully we didn't fight the change and we learned to wel-come. Unintentionally, I've been wondering lately whether we in the church often make similar oversights. The sanctuary and grounds are primed for the celebration, but are we having real conversations about what it means to welcome the vulnerable gift of the Christ child. I don't know. I hope to lead us through some of these conversations...well until the baby gets here!
Christmas Decorating
Do you hear the music? Christmas is fast approaching. The wor-ship committee will be decorating the sanctuary Saturday, Novem-ber 29 at 9:00am. We would appreciate any and all help. Please mark your calendars.
Reminder Saguaro Quilters will not be meeting through the holidays.
Thank you I want to thank the members and friends of the SCC Congregation for your beautiful greeting cards of healing and support and phone calls following my surgery. The surgery was a success and now it is a matter of gaining physical strength, which improves day by day. Thank you all so very much Bonnie Logan

As we reach the end of 2014 and reflect on the gift we have been given through the birth of Jesus, its also a time to consider the most generous gift left to Saguaro by the Brady family in the form of an endowment established to carry on many activities and programs they were passionate about. One of these is the Brady Outreach endowment. BRADY OUTREACH funds are awarded for areas including neighborhood, community, world/global, Basic Mission Finance, new church development and ideas beyond the scope of our own church development. Requests are not limited to church-related projects but are considered for humanitarian efforts and outreach as well. We ask that groups not apply for funding that will be used for institutional sustainment (salaries, rent, etc.) but rather for specific, preferably new, needs/projects within the organization. Funds should have a measurable im-pact on a specific target project and help those outside the membership of Saguaro Christian Church. Now is the time for you to present to the committee applica-tions for grants to programs and projects that meet these guidelines............be they religious or secular/humanitarian in nature. There are so many wonderful groups out there, think about it, won't you be an advocate for one? Applications are available in the church office and should be returned by the 10th of January to be considered for Quarter 4/2014 awards. Questions may be directed to Sharon Jensen, Chair, at [email protected]

POWWOW Our Pow-Wow season is underway,
and December's Pow-Wow event will
take place on Saturday, December
20th. This is only 5 days away from
Christmas Day, but we will still need
volunteers to donate their time and
energy to making the Dec event a suc-
cess. So, in the hustle of holiday prepa-
rations, please consider helping us pro-
vide these vegetables and fruits to
families who may not otherwise be
able to afford to put food on their ta-
ble for the Holidays. If you would like
to offer your time on Saturday, Dec
20th from 6:30 AM to 11:30 AM, or
any portion thereof, please contact
Kevin Prahar at Kev-
[email protected]. Thank you.
Adult Education Sundays, December 7-21st, Carol Friesen will be leading the se-
ries; Mary, Mother of Jesus, Different Perspectives. We will be
discussing Mary's Yes to God's call and some of the culture of
this time and then following through with other perspectives of
Mary and how she is perceived around the World. Who was
Mary and who is she today and how, as Disciples, can we hold
her in our hearts?
Meditation Class in January

meditation in a completely friendly, non-threatening atmos-
phere, join us as we learn from Pat & Joe Ambrosic, Monday
evenings, starting January 12 for 5 weeks, 1 1/2 hours each
meeting in the chapel. For more information, contact Terry
Bagwell.
