VFW MEETING DAYS for 2013 All meeting times start at 7:30 pm. Dinner is served at 6:00 pm
MARCH 14 JULY 19 OCTOBER 10
APRIL 11 AUGUST 8 NOVEMBER 14
JUNE 13 SEPT 12 DECEMBER 12
Dear Comrades We have lost a lot of good men and women over the last 25 years. This past month we lost a real special Life
Member and friend in William (Bill) Meisel. He has been a VFW member for over 40 years and a member of Post 10147 for the last 20 years. Bill has held many titles over this time. He has been our Chaplain until a year ago,
when Ron Allen took over. He was in charge of our Honor Guard which performed at funerals and post colors all over central Florida. Bill coordinated the preparation of trophies for Special Olympics for many years. Bill loved
presenting the trophies to the participants. It made him as happy as the kids receiving them. Bill was instrumental in developing our post military museum. Guys like Bill don’t come around very often in our organization. Bill will
be missed by all of us.
We have been getting a lot of calls about Booster Membership. Let me explain. All Booster memberships will run from June 1st to June 1st of the following year. To make this transition, you can pay the $25 yearly fee or prorate
your payment at $2 per month until June 1st of 2014. At this time all Booster member dues will be from June 1st to June 1st. Bob Popp will send out an email to all of you to renew your membership. All members without an email
address will receive a written notice.
Lou Boria’s wife, Julie pasted away this month as well. You can send a card to Lou at: 3171 Foxwood Drive, Apopka, FL 32703.
As I am writing this article, Eva Lisle called to inform me that her husband Tom has passed away. Tom was our post
Chaplain before Bill Meisel assumed his duties. You can send a card to Eva at: 4016 Myrtle Oak Court, Zellwood, FL 32798.
In closing, don’t forget to get your reservation and check in for the Christmas Party on December 15, 2013. Cutoff
date is December 8, 2013.
Keep our troops in your prayers until they are safely home with their families. United we stand and God bless America.

The City of Apopka has a great program for veterans called, The City of Apopka's Veteran and Public Safety
Street Naming Program. The program was created to recognize the number of individuals who have served our
community and country. By naming a City street in their honor, the city hopes to promote public awareness
of the individual and show appreciation for their outstanding contributions.
Program Criteria
Standing/Status: Eligible candidates must be deceased.
Branch of Service: Eligible military candidates include those having served in Military Departments as
defined under Department of Defense
Directive 5100.1 which include Departments of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.
Eligible candidates also include individuals of earlier communities who served the greater Apopka area and
immigrants to Apopka who served in the armed forces of allied nations during wartime.
Eligible Public Safety personnel include Police Officer and Fire Fighter candidates that served in Apopka
as well as personnel who died in the line of duty.
Level of Service: Eligible military candidates must have been honorably discharged. Police and Fire per-
sonnel may not have been terminated for cause from employment.
Relationship to Apopka: Eligible military candidates must have once resided in Apopka, as it is now known
or was considered Apopka during the candidate’s lifetime.
Eligible Police Officer and Fire Fighter candidates must have
served in Apopka, regardless of whether they lived in Apopka or died while in the line of duty.
Nomination: Family members must not object to nominations of their eligible relatives. Any family member
objection issued prior to the naming of a street in honor of someone will invalidate their nomination Form.
Verification: Documentary proof of a candidate's service must accompany the Nomination Form. The DD 214
Form (Report of Separation) is the City's preferred documentation for military candidates. Before January
1, 1950, several similar forms were used by the military services, including the WD AGO 53, WD AGO 55, WD
AGO 53-55,
NAVPERS 553, NAVMC 78PD and the NAVCG 553.
Eligible candidates must meet all listed Program Criteria as well as undergo the City's standard Addressing
Guidelines and Improvements
Standards Review.
The first step is to submit the completed nomination form which can be found online at www.apopka.net/
streetsign. Either submitted electronically or mail it to: Public Services Department City of Apopka 748
E. Cleveland Street Apopka, FL 32703, Attn: Veterans and Public Safety Street Naming Program.
For more information, please call 407 703-1731.
