Why Wait?
I would like to think myself calm, collected, patient to a fault, but I am not. I pace when forced to wait, stew when behind pokey drivers, fume when friends arenot where they should be.
Why this impatient belligerence?I value promptness and reliability, and another’s thoughtlessness or distractioncan trump my schedule, can substitute their trajectory over mine. Such presumption makes my innards boil.
So I feel false to invite others into Advent, a season of waiting, of patient trust in God’s coming. But who can invite others to wait? to call upon an expectant trust? Isaiah says “a little child shall lead them,” and I am not yet child enough.
Calm me, O Holy One, and put a child’s trust within.Assure me, remind me, your love surpasses sin.Envelop my anxiety and gentle any doubt;I am not defenseless though chaos is about.I am God’s, and God’s alone; I need not wait, ‘tis known.

All of Skyline’s programs work to serve a genuine need and each and every contribution that you make enables Skyline to reach out with its mission and make a difference! Sincerely, Rev. Claudia Lovelace Executive Director

Congratulations to Lakeside’s Pianist, Corie Catherine Melaugh
Corie’s Graduate Vocal Coaching Recital on November 18th was superb. The program was well arranged with selections by Schumann, Offenbach, Puccini, Debussy, as well as Hoagy Carmichael’s ‘Stardust’ and Sammy Fain’s ‘The Second Star to the Right’ from “Peter Pan”. Included was ‘Lost in the Stars’ and ‘Youkali’ by Kurt Weill.
The young vocalists were delightful and Corie’s ac-companiment highlighted her versatility in playing genres of classical, jazz and a little swing. The evening
concluded with Corie joining the other vocalists in an acappella arrangement of ‘A Christmas Carol’ by Charles Ives. Lakesiders, congratulate Corie on her accomplish-ments (and ask her about the green shoes.) –Barbara Smith

Dear Lakeside,
It was so nice meeting you all and I want to thank you for all your help and kindness shown to my sister, Marilyn, and me, following the death of our mother, Paula Grape.
I’m sorry I am so late in responding to all the kindness and love shown to my family and me from Rev. Rickman and all the beautiful ladies of the church who so graciously hosted the lovely dinner and reception. I don’t have names or ad-dresses of all of them but I would love it if you could send out this email to the church family or send addresses of people involved.
I know why my Mother loved your church and the many people in it. You all have been so wonderful and I thank God, and you all.
With my thanks and love,Patti Walker, daughter of Paula [email protected] 251-0940

The United Methodist Publishing House board’s decision to close its 57 Cokesbury brick-and-mortar stores — including 19 seminary stores — will affect about 285 full-time and part-time employees. This is a cost-cutting measure, hop-ing Cokesbury customers will begin relying on its online store at: cokesbury.com.
