STEWARDSHIP (Pledge): We have

reached the last month of our fiscal year and if we haven’t done so already it is time to “CATCH-UP”. Every Sunday in the bulletin there is a note called “Parish Figures” which has been running behind for quite some time. We are 17% below what was budgeted last January. Everyone needs to review the pledge they made and bring them up to date. The time is at hand to complete 2007 before we advance toward 2008. “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be

also.” Matt. 6:21

STEWARDSHIP (Service): Parish Council: This is another form of stewardship. The time is drawing near when we will have our Annual Meeting and there will be openings that need to be filled on the council. There are a few members who have served for many years. Whenever they were asked to serve they said yes. But now they must take a break. It is time for others to show the same dedication to our parish and “step-up” and take their place so that these faithful servants may have a well deserved rest.

Greeters and Cleaners: New empty lists are now posted on the bulletin board as you enter downstairs. On the cleaners list there were about six different names for the twelve months. As noted in the weekly bulletin there are a number of individuals who are willing to ‘team up’ so one person does not have to work alone cleaning the whole church and hall. PLEASE add your name to the list this year.

Coffee Hour hosting: Phyllis & David Bartos will again be compiling the list for hosting our ‘fellowship’ hour after Divine Liturgy. Again, you can form a group, spread out the tasks and take a couple of weeks during the year.

PARISH REPRESENTATIVES: As a

parish we are also looking for a few good people who would like to be our “parish representative” to FORCC [We did have one in the past but this position is vacant at this time] and a contact person for “O.N.E.,” the diocesan newspaper, who would submit articles about the happenings around Holy Trinity. If you are interested talk with Fr. David.

CONFESSION & COMMUNION: During with the Nativity Fast (November 15th - Decem-ber 24th) Fr. David will be visiting those shut-in at home and in nursing homes for Confession and Communion. Please check the monthly calendars for when he will be at the nursing homes. Also, with the Advent Fast, November 15th—December 24th, private confession will be held after vespers, on selected weekdays (see calendar) or by

appointment.

BAKE SALE: The Sisterhood will be holding its

annual Holiday Bake Sale on Sunday, December 16th during coffee hour. Bring your checkbook and take home something wonderful!

The December monthly charity collection is for the “Warm

the Children” which provides new winter clothing for the children of needy families.

FAST-FREE: The time between the celebration of

the Nativity of our Lord (December 25th) and the Friday before the Eve of Theophany (January 4th) is a fast-free

period in the Orthodox Church. The Eve of Theophany

(January 5th) is a strict-fast day.

PARISH COUNCIL: Due to the Feast Days in

December the next meeting of the Parish Council will be held on Monday, January 14, 2008. All council members are asked to make every effort to attend the meeting. We will be preparing the budget for the Annual Meeting to be held on Sunday, January 27, 2008.

CHURCH RENOVATION UPDATE: A systematic plan has been developed to address the prob-lems in the following manner: ♦ �Removal of the two trees in front of the church (along

with two at the front of the rectory) 3/07

♦ �Clean gutters of all debris 6/07

♦ �Professionally have all down spouts, rear curtain drain clean-outs and lines inspected and snaked all the way to the main drain pipe in the street 7/07

♦ �Have designated roof and cupola

repairs made 5/07

♦ Determine cause of water in church kitchen and add sump pump or alleviate the problem from the outside [Dec ‘07 -

Jan ‘08] ♦ Once it is determined that the outside wa-

ter problems have been addressed, repair and re-plaster the interior church walls [spring ‘08]

♦ Paint the interior of the church ♦ Paint the downstairs and replace ceiling

tiles [winter ‘08] ♦ Complete the downstairs area with new indoor/outdoor

carpet, with tile to cover the area of the coffee hour set-up [summer ‘08]

As you review the points listed above, one can see that the additional expenses are yet to be determined. But it is impor-tant to remember that our church building is approaching the 100 year mark in 2013, not to be confused with the 100th anniversary of the parish in 2002. Many have contributed to the Hundred Plus Club to honor the hundred plus years since our founding. Individuals may join by making donations to the building fund in denomina-tions of $100. This will be in addition to one's annual pledge. The funds will be used solely for the purpose of renovating our church building.

As of this printing we have collected $ 5700.00.

FEAST DAYS IN DECEMBER:

St. Nicholas (Dec 6th): By tradition, Nicholas born in the province of Lycia in the southern part of Asia Mi-nor in the city of Patara to well-to-do parents. The date of his birth is not known. Having inherited his parents' es-tate, he became known for his generous gifts to those in need. As a youth, he made pilgrimages to Palestine and Egypt. He was sub-sequently consecrated Archbishop of Myra as the fourth century be-gan. He was imprisoned during the persecutions of Diocletian and released by Constantine after his ascension to emperor. Nicholas was noted for his defense of Or-thodoxy against the Arians. He is reputed to have been present at the Council of Nicaea, but his name does not appear among any documents from that era. He died in Myra on December 6 in a year uncertain, but between 342 and 352. He is commemorated on December 6. Nicholas was acclaimed and honored throughout Europe and especially in Italy. When Myra was captured by the Saracens in 1034, many Italian cities planned to "rescue" his relics. In 1087, forces from Bari, Italy, attacked Myra and carried away his relics from the lawful Greek guardi-ans in Myra to Bari where they were enshrined in a new

church. His fame increased. The story of his rescue of sailors in the Aegean Sea during his lifetime established him as the patron of mariners. His popularity in Russia rose to the point that almost all churches had some sort of shrine honoring St. Nicholas.

St. Herman of Alaska (Dec 13th): Our venerable father Herman of Alaska (1756 - December 13, 1837) was an 18th century missionary to Alaska. He is also the first saint to be glorified by the Ortho-dox Church in America. St. Herman of Alaska was a Russian Orthodox monk from Valaam Monastery in Russia who traveled with eight other monks in 1793 to bring the Gospel to the native Aleuts and Es-kimos in the Aleutian Islands. As part of the Russian colonization of the Americas, Russians had been exploring and trading there since at least 1740. Thus, he marks the first arrival of Orthodox Christian mis-sionaries in North America. He built a school for the Aleutians, and he often defended them from the injustices and exploitation of the Russian traders. He was known to them as Apa which means "Grandfather." He lived most of his life as the sole resident of Spruce Island, a tiny wooded island near Kodiak Island. Troparion (Tone 7)

"IT CAME FROM ME" Have you ever thought that everything which con-cerns you equally concerns Me? Because everything con-cerning you is precious to Me even as the apple of My eye. You are precious and dear to Me and I have much love for you, and that is why I take pleasure in teaching you. 4

When temptations come upon you and the enemy rises against you like a flood -- I want you to know that IT CAME FROM ME, that your infirmity is in need of My strength that your safety lies in letting Me do battle for you. If your life among people is difficult; if they do not understand you, if they do not care whether they please you or not, if they push you aside -- IT CAME FROM ME. I am your God Who is responsible for circum-stances. It is not a matter of chance that you find yourself where you are; that is the exact place which I have chosen for you. Have you not asked me that I teach you humility? Therefore, you must understand that I have placed you in the school where this lesson is studied. Your environment and the people you live with only fulfill MY will. If you are pressed for money, if you find it difficult to make ends meet -- THIS CAME FROM ME. I am the keeper of your purse. I want you to have recourse to Me, I want you to depend on Me … MY riches are inexhausti-ble; I want to convince you of My faithfulness and of the faithfulness of My promises -- so that it would never hap-pen that it could be said unto you: “You did not believe the Lord your God.” Are you living dark hours of depression? -- IT CAME FROM ME. I am a Man of sorrows who has known infir-mity. I have allowed it to happen so that you would turn to Me and would find in My eternal consolation. Has a friend deceived you, one to whom you had opened your heart? -- IT CAME FROM ME. I allowed this disappoint-ment to come to you so that you would realize that the Lord God is your best Friend. I want you to bring all to Me and to confide in Me. Has someone slandered you? Leave it to Me, cling closer to Me, your Refuge. I shall bring out your truth like the light and your equity shall become as bright as noon.

Have your plans been destroyed? Are you weak of heart and tired? -- IT CAME FROM ME. You made your plans and you brought them to Me asking that I bless them; but I want you to let Me dispose of your circum-stances -- and then the responsibility for everything will rest upon Me; otherwise it would be too hard upon you; you cannot change everything yourself, you are only an instrument, not the acting person. Were you dreaming of performing a special task for Me, and instead, you have fallen ill and are lying on a sick-bed? -- IT CAME FROM ME. When you were ab-sorbed in your occupations, I could not draw your thoughts to Me, and I want to teach you the most pro-found of My thoughts and make you understand that you

are serving Me. I want you to realize that you are nothing. My best co-workers are those who are cut off from out-ward activity because they are learning to use the weapon of constant prayer. Have you suddenly been called upon to fill a difficult and responsible position? Go forward and confide in Me. I entrust you with those difficulties because of them our Lord God will bless you in all your work, in all that will be done by your hands. Today I am entrusting you with this vessel containing sacred oil and that is My blessing; use it freely, My child. Every difficulty which arises, each word which is being said to insult you, every obstacle in your work which could bring disappointment to you, every revelation of your own weakness and inability, must be anointed with this holy oil. Do not forget that every hindrance is an admonition coming to you from God. Every sting will become blunt if you learn to see Me in all events, in everything that touches you -- therefore, store in your heart these words which I have said to you: “IT CAME FROM ME” -- because for you these are not empty words, for you -- they represent your life.

Parish Council Minutes The October 2007 Parish Council meeting was held in the church hall on Monday, October 29, 2007. Warden Paul Salina called the meeting to order at 7pm. A quorum was noted. The meeting began with an opening prayer “O Heavenly King”. Pastor’s Report: Father David reported that “Thank you’s” were in the bulletin the weekend he was away for all who helped and cleaned outside. He informed us that HTOC is the only parish that has grown over the last 4 years in it’s giving to ONE STEWARDS and we are the highest giving parish. ONE STEWARDS helps out with the Youth Rally (Kristina Bout-eneff attended this year) and it assists with scholarships to seminarians. Thank you to council members who are part of ONE STEWARDS and to all our parishioners who are mem-bers. Father David received a “Thank you” from St. Vladimir’s for our donation of hotdogs and kielbasa for Orthodox Educa-tion Day. He has also received notification from the National Chancery, Metropolitan Council and the Holy Synod that the next All-American Council will be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsyl-vania - Nov 10-13, 2008. Bishop Nikon is the chairman of the pre-councilor commission. We will need to elect a delegate at our annual meeting. At the recent Diocesan Assembly - George Ludko was elected to the diocesan council. Secretary’s Report: Under the Charity for November-it should read Friendship Center not Friendship House. Motion to accept the September Minutes with this correction Ann Myszka/Paul Culton. Motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report: George Ludko presented the September 2007 financial report. (A copy is on file with the secretary.) Income $12,947.54 (large expenses-electricity, prop.tax on copy machine, Expense $11,488.58 fair-share, withholding and soc. sec.) Inc/Exp $ 1,458.96 September charity $521.00 Dan Bradanini has audited September 2007. Motion to accept the September 2007 financial report as submitted Marion Bichun / Peter Steffick. OLD BUSINESS

*Caretaker’s house: Paul Salina reported the certificate of occupancy may have been issued today. The electrical service had to be brought up to code ($1150) and may not be covered by the insurance in this claim. Bill Kapura is trying to work with the insurance company to get it paid. If we have some extra people during the November 3 cleanup-we would like to send a few people over to wash windows and vacuum. Paul reported that he would open the house after church next Sunday for people to see the renovations. Paul is awaiting a final bill but it will probably be around $33,500. We will need to sched-ule a special meeting to determine the future of the house. Dan Bradanini will work with a committee to present focused ideas regarding the house. *Bishop Nikon Visit: Inside cleanup is scheduled for this week. Ellen Santoro and the Sisterhood will be handling the coffee hour. Arrangements for Bishop Nikon’s stay have been made. Following Vespers, he will be taken out to dinner. On Sunday he will be greeted at the door but will not vest in the center of the church. Ellen Santoro will get flowers for the cen-ter table. *Parish Directory Update: Paul Salina spoke with Jeff Dicos-simo and the booklet is just about ready and we should have a proof available for the next parish council meeting. *Project Management Review: Paul Salina went over the Project Management Review List (a copy is on file with the secretary). He still has to meet with the Drain Doctor to scope out the pipes. We will then take a serious look for the down-stairs projects to resume. *Monthly Church Cleaning: Father David will put this into the bulletin again-perhaps if people don’t want to accept pay-ment then perhaps the church can give a letter for tax purposes. Rosemary Delaney advised she would help anyone at anytime with the cleaning. *From the floor: The lights that face the church on Beaver St. appear to be working-they are on a cycle that goes on and off. Paul Salina informed us that a food basket was sent to Father John Dresko on behalf on the parish (it was there when he re-turned home from his mother’s funeral). Rosemary Delaney did contact AT&T regarding the pay-phone. They will be re-moving them but there is a possibility that Verizon may take over at a higher cost, we will receive literature at a future date. She also contacted the Town Clerks office and no one could tell her there was an ordinance mandating a public phone. How-ever, this is the phone line for the alarm company. There is a phone in the bookstore and that line is forwarded to Father

David’s cell phone. We will wait for literature from AT&T and also discuss options with the alarm company. The front door lock seems to be OK at this time. NEW BUSINESS Report from Diocesan Assembly: Father David reported that the assembly was held in Meriden and the main topic seemed to be what’s going on in the OCA. It was actually 2 days of vent-ing and no decision-making. The Metropolitan Council and Holy Synod have appointed Bishop Benjamin as Episcopal chairman of the new Special Investigative Committee. Bishop Nikon believes that we should allow them to finish the investi-gation and present the reports. All reports from the new SIC will be given to both the MC and the Holy Synod. The OCA website has the full minutes of that last Metropolitan Council meeting Oct 16-17. The chancery has hired 4 new people for the chancellor, secretary, treasurer and director of communica-tions. They will report to the Metropolitan and all have the same “weight”. New procedures are in place. Father Eugene Vansuch, Director of FOS, will be loosing his job by the end of the year and will not be replaced. The Diocese of the Mid-West is withholding their assessments and keeping them in es-crow. Rosemary Delaney, our observer, remarked that things that should have been discussed were not - i.e. Bio-ethics, church growth, and missionaries. The National crisis occupied much of the time and discussion at the Assembly. Our assess-ment number is at 154 parishioners. The National church is no longer paying the Bishops stipends-so our diocese and the Al-banian diocese will be splitting the $650 stipend for Bishop Nikon. Paul Salina reported that our donation to FOS had been withheld pending information from Syosset regarding the OCA problems. But he noted that the sum had been approved in the budget for 2007. Motion to pay FOS $2000 for calendar year 2007 Paul Culton / Rosemary Delaney. Motion carried. Ex-clusion or inclusion of this item will be discussed when prepar-ing the 2008 budget. Charity for December: Motion for “Warm the Children” to be the charity for December Peter Steffick / Ellen Santoro. Motion carried. Trash Cart: The new trash carts have been delivered. They are currently in the garage but will be moved down by the fence towards Washington Street. Anyone disposing of trash from the church should now place it in the trash barrels at the fence on the side of the former rectory.
