Introduction to X-ray Fundamentals: Imaging & Technology is a day-long presentation and training opportunity for those looking

Course Overview/Objectives: Radiation safety as it applies to the patient & the service engineer; Review the different imaging
modalities; their usage and image outcome; Develop an understanding of X-ray theory and X-ray production; Discuss and identify
the primary components within an X-ray system; Provide an overview of the operation of radiographic, fluoroscopic, and mobile
systems; Discuss how adjustment to system parameters produce changes to the resulting image; Overview of understanding and

BMET Certification Review
The brief 2 session course will cover the reasons for you to consider undertaking the BMET Exam, the value of
Certification to your career, application technique, best methods to study for the test, reference materials,
joining with a group. Special training materials will be supplied by the instructor. As time allows, we will actually
take a trial test from the AAMI study materials. It will give you insight to how and what to study and take the
test efficiently. A copy of the application will be provided. A special door prize will be awarded at the end of the
course.
Louis (Lou) Katchis has worked in the Biomedical Engineering field for over 45 years, first as an instructor in Electronic Technology for
a Master’s Degree program and then using his electronic and computer skills developing his own products including commercial
power supplies. He developed two Medical Data projects for NASA at Ames Research Center used in research for the Apollo program.
He became the Director of Biomedical Engineering at the Miami Heart Institute and later at North Shore Medical Center and South
Miami Hospital. He was a founding member of the Florida Biomed Society and has served over the years as President, Board Member
and currently, the Treasurer. His long time goal was to make sure that his technicians and employees were well trained and has
constantly promoted continuing education to other Biomed technicians. He served on both of the AAMI- BMET and CCE certification
boards and the TMC board.Now retired from regular work, Lou works at several hospitals as a consultant developing policies and
procedures, and instituting features in TMS (Four Rivers) CMMS for Biomed and Facilities.
Vulnerability and Risk Management Best Practices for Medical Device Security

This course is split into two parts. The first covers best practices and
procedures for vulnerability management including recommendations on
tooling and staffing. The second part covers Risk Management best practices specifically risk assessments for
non-connected medical devices, risk modeling, and Procurement. The hope is that participants will be able to go
back to their organizations and help modernize their vulnerability and risk management programs in regard to medical devices.

Updates to the Medical Device Servicing Community

Please join us for a lively and informational discussion where we will address several issues affecting the HTM field in
the foreseeable future. Top on the agenda will be right to repair and updates to servicing and re-manufacturing as
well as the Medical Device Servicing Collaborative Community’s response to FDA initiatives initiated by MITA and
sponsored by FDA. This session will also examine the impact of the closing of 24 colleges, which is expected to result in a shortage of
4,000-6,000 technicians in the next 5 or so years.
