How can I prepare my heart for Christmas? The Family Ministry invites our families to celebrate this Season of Advent by making a home in their hearts for Jesus. We hope all of you will take the opportunity to go to Confession before Christmas so your spiritual home is ready for the coming of Our Savior. God is so loving and so generous that He forgives our sins and gives us the graces we need to live happier and more joyful lives. It’s easy to get overwhelmed by all of the many things that we do to prepare for Christmas. But if we go to Confession and then take time each day to pray, then God can give us peace in our hearts – a present that only He can give. Join us for our next St. Joseph’s Workshop on Friday, December 30 at 7:00pm in the Parish Center with Msgr. Edward Barry. Learn how the Holy Family can teach us to say “YES” to God.

Page 5: December 18, 2016 Final · 12/18/2016  · Monday, December 26, 2016 9:00am & 12 Noon Mass Only No Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament Fourth Sunday of Advent December 18, 2016 St

A Note from the Pas tor’s Desk Dear Parishioners,

The arrival of the Fourth Sunday of Advent means that there is one week left for

Christmas preparations of every sort. Both material and spiritual preparations will be

finishing up soon.

Just like we all have presents to wrap, food to prepare and packages to send before a

certain day, so too should we think about our spiritual preparedness at this wonderful but

often hectic time of year.

One of the best ways to spiritually prepare for major solemnities like Christmas is to

be sure we have examined our consciences and perhaps discover that we would do well to

avail ourselves of the sacrament of Reconciliation. That is exactly the reason the Church

offers us added opportunities for Confession before Christmas and Easter.

Tomorrow is Reconciliation Monday during Advent with Confessions in every parish

between 4:00PM and 8:00PM. In addition, here at St. Patrick’s, there is a slot for

Confessions on Wednesday from 12:30PM till 1:30PM, and also on Thursday from 4:00PM

to 6:00PM and 8:00PM to 9:00PM. It is a great idea to approach the Nativity with clean

hearts and souls out of love for Jesus.

On a more mundane note, we are also trying to prepare for the possibly snowy winter

months as a parish. You may have seen the articles in the Journal News over the last week

or so about Snow Budgets (for municipalities). We have had to confront the need for better

snow plowing and our snow removal budget has increased considerably. It would be great

if we could count on a snowless winter but it doesn’t usually work that way! With your

generous contributions, both regular and at Christmas time, we will be fine. Perhaps with

less money in reserve but with cleaner pavements. Cleaner souls and cleaner sidewalks

sounds like a good plan in every respect. May Advent lead to a joyous Christmas!

Sincerely in Christ,

+ JMJ

Do you want more peace and joy in 2017? Peace and joy will flow into our lives when we learn how to say

“YES” to God's plan for our lives.

What does saying “YES” mean for me? Here is a simple way to live out our “YES”.

Y is for YEARNING for Jesus Each day we should YEARN to become closer to Jesus. Our Savior gave us Holy Mother Church so that we could stay close to Him. Jesus feeds our souls by giving us Himself in the Eucharist. He also gives us the Sacrament of Reconciliation so that we can keep our souls clean so that we can worthily receive Him in Holy Communion. The more time you can spend

with Jesus, the more Jesus will grow in your heart. More Jesus equals more joy.

E is for EMBRACING the Will of God When we have our eyes set on Heaven, then all of our earthly troubles and sufferings have meaning because we know that God never lets anything happen to us that isn't for the ultimate good of our souls. So we can let God fill our hearts with the peace of knowing He

is in control and we have nothing to worry about.

S is for SERVING God and Neighbor When we SERVE God and our neighbor out of love it means that each day becomes a prayer of praise and thanksgiving. The Holy Family shows how true joy and happiness come from serving each other with a loving heart. When we step outside of ourselves and

think about the needs of other people, we find that we are happier. Our hearts were made for love and love grows in a heart that serves those in need.

Come and see how God is inviting you to a happier life. Join us for our next St. Joseph's Workshop on Friday, December 30th at

7:00 pm in the Parish Center with Monsignor Barry. Learn how the Holy Family can teach us to say “YES” to God.

St. Joseph's Workshop begins with fellowship, followed by a brief talk. Then the evening concludes in the Main Church with Adoration, a Family Rosary and the opportunity for Confession. St. Joseph's

Workshop is from 7:00-8:30 pm. Free babysitting is provided during the talk and fellowship.
