believe that it’s almost the middle of December. Our students
continue to be doing amazing things both inside the school and
outside in the community, we are so proud of each and every one
of them, they are truly amazing students!
As noted in an earlier communication, Cameron Crossing does not
do formal scheduled Parent Teacher Interviews, in lieu of these, we
are more than happy to meet with you to discuss the progress of
your son/daughter throughout the year upon your request. Please

Happy December everyone! It’s
hard to believe three months have
passed since the beginning of the
school year. The students are
showing their resilience, pushing
through their various academic
courses such as Social Studies,
English, Math, Abnormal Psychology,
Art, and more! Many students are
close to finishing courses they have
been working on.
Happy Holidays Cameron Crossing Families!
What an amazing few months it has been at Cameron
Crossing. We have done some really exciting things both in
and out of the school. Firstly, we had the opportunity to
attend the YouthSMART Summit in which some of our
students joined youth from schools all over Calgary and the
Foothills to learn about how important it is to recognize if or
when they and their peers might need some mental health
support, including what we can be doing at our school to
further this initiative.
As always, It is important to
our staff to continuously
meet the needs of our
students so our weekly
mental health lessons have
focused on various topics
that have been identified
by our students, including;
stress, healthy sleep habits,
and test anxiety.

This week, we have started our
Relationship and Sexual Health Lessons
hosted by Kiki from the Center for
Sexuality. Please note that these lessons
are both informative and empowering but
can also be triggering for some students,
so please know that we honor every
students’ needs as we move forward with
these lessons.
Lastly, with Christmas right around the
corner; I will be talking to our students
about self-care over the holidays and
how they can successfully recognize
their emotions and help to regulate
themselves when needed. If you are
needing any tips to help at home;
please feel free to contact
Our GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) has
been busy planning both
Halloween and Christmas activities
for our students in order to further
promote inclusivity and a safe
space for learning. Our GSA had
the opportunity to join the other
GSAs in the school division for a
movie and pizza night which
opened the door for further
socializing among our own students
and those from the other schools.
On Monday morning’s we start our week with a techniquecalled “Morning Pages” which we have adapted to our schoolsenvironment. This technique is a form of a brain-dump thatmany of our students are using throughout the week when theyare feeling frustrated or stuck. Then, either Tuesday or Thursdaymornings we spend 10 minutes practicing self-awareness byexperimenting with different types of activities. Not all
mindfulness activities will work for each student, therefore weare exploring lots of different options: art or journaling, self-reflection activities, breath-work or body scans, and orienting orgrounding activities. Friday’s, we wrap up our week with aYoga Ed. session at the Okotoks Public Library. We will continue
to practice Mindfulness in avariety of ways throughout the
2019-2020 school year, with agoal of providing the studentswith some new tools for thetoolbox. We know students are
faced with lots of stress and pressures in adolescents, and this isjust one of the ways to support their growth and resiliency.
It’s so hard to believe we arealready nearing the end of2019. As you know, for the lastfew months we have beenpracticing Mindfulness at ourschool in various ways a fewtimes a week. For somestudents and staff, this is anew skill and for others it is afamiliar practice.

finals when they have completed the course.
