Work Strands

• Refurbishment• Alignment

– Shims and stops

These tasks should be completed by the time Linde commissioning is complete (November 23rd?)

• Testing– Controls– Interfaces – Electrical and Pneumatic

• Positioning System for Installation

Refurbishment

• Method Statement and Risk Assessments in place

• 1 week’s work on exit end MLI• Entry end MLI probably slightly less, BUT

this includes repairing copper shield and investigating leak.

• Jenny Tomkins was originally lined up to do MLI, but will probably be too busy on other projects to do it all.

Alignment

• Requires shims and stops to be designed and procured– Design in progress

• Help required from Metrology (CC).

Test Position

Testing – Preparatory Work

• Create a level area for the Solenoid Test Position• Specify and procure pipework for connecting Gas Panel

to Solenoid Turret• Position the Power Supply, Control Rack and Gas Panel

– We need a safe place to store the Gas Panel (currently in R12)

• Make all the necessary electrical connections between the Solenoid, Fridge, Control Rack, Power Supply and Gas Panel.

• Connect up the vacuum pumps• Software??

Controls – Update from Graham Charnley

• The rack is now complete except for the 48v back up supply. We are waiting for the battery charger to be delivered. Expected end Oct.

• Rack wiring checks next week • External field cables complete by end this week except

for DC cables, these to be supplied by Martin Hughes. • Need to clarify latest delivery date to allow for software

testing prior to delivery. Aiming for w/c 12th Nov but could be w/c 19th Nov

• DL will provide resource at RAL to connect field wiring for test position. DL require confirmation of actual date for this work ASAP to enable booking of travel and accommodation.

Final Installation

• Procure (?) and install pumping rig

• Re-orient transfer line– Need to book in DeMaCo for this?– Needs a support inside the DSA

• Need to design and procure positioning system – probably just a simple pulley.

Open Questions

• Can we get help for the MLI work?• Is the power supply cabling for the test and final

positions in hand?• Can a temporary scaffold platform be made to

support the Solenoid in the test position?• What support is needed for moving the transfer

line to the test position?• What are the full implications of connecting all

the solenoid systems in the DSA? – Do we need a high level platform?– Are cable routes agreed?
