Winter is here! December, the

last month of 2015. Did we accom-

plish what we wanted to accomplish

this year? Did we even get started

on what we wanted to accomplish?

Sometimes we mean well, but we

get side-tracked by life. Since this is

the time of the year we reflect, let’s

reflect on this last year for our Lodges. Did we set goals

to even know where we wanted to be at the end of the

year? The reason we set goals and write them down is

to be able to see where we are at any time in our endeav-

ors. So as we look back on this year, if we did not set

any goals now would be the time to do so. We can still

make a difference before our sessions in May.

As I have traveled to Lodges I find many of the

Lodges need to set some membership goals. However,

there are some problems that are creating issues with

membership. The main problem is ATTITUDE. Not

attitude against members but an attitude that there is

nothing the Lodges can do. IF YOU BELIEVE THAT

YOU CAN OR YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU CAN’T,

YOU ARE PROBABLY RIGHT.

One of the first things I have noticed is most of our

members do not know how to tell the general public

what we do as Lodges. Another issue seems to be dele-

gation of responsibilities. We tend to do everything our-

selves and say “if you want it done right do it yourself”

rather than to give others a chance to help. Sometimes

we have a tendency to try to shorten our meetings too

much and a newer member isn’t able to make heads or

tails of what is going on. In order to address some of

these issues we will be offering some workshops to

Lodges to help with these and other issues. Watch for

dates to be set up this spring. If your Lodge would be

interested in hosting a workshop please let me know.

We will have more information on these later. We also

are working on a grant writing workshop. I have been

asked if there is someone who can help lodges with

grants, so, I am putting that together also.

As we look to a new year let us work together to

make a difference not only in our communities but in our

lodges so our lodges can grow and prosper. Elsewhere

in the paper I am including the first 25 of 100 commu-

nity involvement ideas. I have been asked for ideas as I

have visited Lodges. This list was presented to the

Sovereign Grand Lodge this last year by the Revitaliza-

tion Committee and I am passing the information on to

you.

I want to wish everyone Happy Holidays and a re-

newed spirit for a prosperous new year.

Happy Holidays,

Sheryl Rohde, Grand Master

Participate in Adopt A Highway. For those not fa-

miliar with this, your organization agrees to pick up

trash along a section of highway at least quarterly

and you get your name on a highway sign that says

“Adopt-A-Highway” and the organization’s name.

If your community has a Volunteer Fire Department

sponsor a fundraising event to help raise funds for

equipment.

Participate in several parades, city, community, every

year. If there are no parades, organize one to cele-

Dear Matriarchs,

I am sorry that I did not

get my article into last

months Oregon Pacific Odd

Fellow. I have only made

one visitation so far and it

was to the Coast Fork Ladies

Encampment at Myrtle Creek

on October 22nd. What a great

group they have. I will be making my next visit Frid-

day, December 18th at Wimawhala Ladies Encampment

Auxiliary.

Eugene Ladies Encampment has changed their meet-

ing nights from the first Friday to the third Friday of

each month, except July and August.

I WISH EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU A

WONDERFUL HOLIDAY SEASON.

In Faith, Hope and Charity,

Cassatina Barnes, Grand Matriarch

Greetings Patriarchs,

In my travels to the different En-

campments I’ve discovered that

each lodge is unique in its own way.

They all give back to their commu-

nities. One lodge sells firewood to

raise money for the needy. During

the winter it is especially important

to take care of those less fortunate. Keep up the good

work.

I wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New

Year!

In Faith, Hope and Charity,

Jerry Broaddus, Grand Patriarch

Whose heart doth hold the Christmas glow

Hath little need of Mistletoe;

Who bears a smiling grace of mien

Need waste no time on wreaths of green;

Whose lips have words of comfort spread

Needs not the holly-berries red—

His very presence scatters wide

The spirit of the Christmastide. ~John Kendrick Bangs

Brothers and Sisters,

First off I would like to wish

you and your family and friends a

very Merry Christmas and a

Happy New Year.

Please help aid and assist those

who may be in need so that their

Christmas can be fun-filled. Please

remember to visit the sick and relieve the distressed. It

means so much for those in need when we offer our

support.

Please say a special prayer for the Men and Women

of our United States Armed Forces who are on

duty protecting our liberty.

Northwest Odd Fellows was a great event with lots

of fellowship and fun. We were entertained by a very

funny man who told jokes and sang songs while play-

ing his accordion. If you have never been to a North-

west meeting then you must go and see and hear for

yourself all of the interesting ideas. We had dignitaries

from British Columbia, Idaho, Oregon and Washing-

ton. These events are held twice a year, one in April

and the other in November. The Jurisdictions bring to-

gether many thoughts and ideas.

You will be receiving your annual report forms

soon. Please remember they are due in the Grand

Lodge office by January 31, 2016. If you have any

questions or need any help please call me. Remember I

am here to assist all of the Lodges.

Ronald Kunze, Grand Secretary

Seasons greetings to all my sisters

and brothers,

I wish all of you the very best

holiday season. Remember to take

time to relax and enjoy your fam-

ily and friends. Keep in mind that

we have brothers and sisters who

may not have family close by and

you could be the one to help them have a happier holi-

day season.

I was able to attend Northwest this last month with

two of my granddaughters who are Theta Rho mem-

bers. The girls had a good time. They had a wonderful

time at the banquet getting to know Ron Kunze and

Gary Kniss better. Thank you to all of the Oregon Re-

bekah and Grand Lodge members who make the Theta

Rho girls feel so welcome each time you see them.

Lodges should have received their annual report

forms and due to the problems with the forms we used

last year we are returning to the forms used in previous

years. Please give me a call if you have any questions

or problems with completing your report.

Again happy holidays to each of you,

Merry Christmas from all of us here at the Park.

Thank you all for your support this last year. We have

seen many new faces and a few that we have not seen in

quite a while.

The fencing is finally complete and again we thank

everyone for their generous donations. Our ice machine

has died and we are slowly getting donations. We hope

to have a new machine by Spring Fling.

Just a reminder that as of January 1, 2016 the rates

will be as follows:

Members $30.00 per night

with current Jones Reward Card $20.00 per night

Guest $40.00 per night

Tent Site Member $20.00 per night

Tent Site Guest $25.00 per night

As utility rates increase we have tried to hold off do-

ing a rate increase, but it has become necessary to raise

the rate to meet expenses. Thank you for your under-

standing. Call the office if you have any questions.

Please call and check on your reservations for next

year as we now have everyone transferred to the new

2016 book.

We are looking forward to a great new year and hope

to see you all soon.

MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL.

Mary and Park Staff

Klamath Lodge No. 137 met on October 13th with

Grand Master, Sheryl Rohde making her official visit.

We initiated 4 new members, Edith (Edie) Brown-

Vieyra, Judy Plowman, Troy Miller and Curtis Miller.

Members from the Rogue Valley area also came over

to assist with the initiation and the 3 degrees. We had

two other members that also received the degrees, they

were Wayne Lahoda and Vieva Colahan. This initiation

almost doubled our members that are able to attend

lodge. In the last couple of months, we have also rein-

stated two members who had dropped out. They are

Lindarose Conner and Norma Richardson.

There are three generations in one family in this group.

Judy Plowman is the mother of Troy Miller, and Troy

Miller is the father of Curtis Miller.

We have sent out information to send a student on

the UNEP and have received two responses so far.

The Grand Master wanted to thank the Grand Mar-

shal Kenneth Carr, PGM Lloyd Stiewig, Kathy Stewart,

and Jack Frost for answering the call when Klamath

Falls asked for help.

Last week the wine club met, had a fantastic dinner

and fellowship. Not all people in these photos are mem-

bers. This is one way Grants Pass is opening its lodge to

the community and getting the community in to the

lodge. It's a great tool for recruiting. Start a wine club in

your lodge. Ask non-members to come to it, discuss Odd

Fellowship over a bottle of wine.

Christmas is coming; it is almost here!

With Santa and presents, good will and cheer!

Statement of Pupose

It shall be the purpose of the Northwest Odd Fellow

and Rebekah Association to bring together the com-

bined representatives, of all Units of Odd Fellowship

from the Jurisdictions of British Columbia, Idaho, Ore-

gon and Washington. Such subjects and concerns as

being of mutual interest to provide an arena to ex-

change ideas among several Jurisdictions. To create a

vehicle for communication and mutual help in time of

need, and by practice of the principles of Friendship,

Love and Truth, we seek solutions to any problem

which may impede the advancement of Odd Fellowship

throughout all its Units.

Our October Halloween meeting was celebrated with

a “pizza party” and assortment of costume dressed gob-

lins. A fun time was had by all. Members received a

treat from the head Goblin.

The first meeting in November we celebrated Kath-

leen Swigart’s 70th year belonging to the Rebekah Or-

der. Edith Brown presented Kathleen with her Veteran

Jewel. Janice Straub, Secretary read Kathleen’s history

with the Rebekahs

beginning with

her joining Silver

Leaf through con-

sol idat ion to

Shamrock. Also

read was the

meaning of the

Veteran’s Jewel. Noble Grand Joyce Steiner read a

congratulatory, written by Inez Kennedy. Kathleen also

received a plant, card and cake from the members. Pic-

tured above is Edith pinning Kathleen’s Veteran’s

Jewel.

Also in November, Joyce and Janice celebrated their

55th year as Rebekahs. Two of our members, Robert

Worthington and Claus Sheer were recognized as Mili-

tary Veterans. At our next meeting we held a special

celebration for Veteran’s month.

Come join us on the 1st and 3rd Mondays at 12:00,

bring a sack lunch. The meeting starts at 1:00. Des-

serts are provided.

That is correct. These fine ladies came together to

beautify the outside of Jacksonville Lodge by planting

flowers, trimming trees, raking leaves and mowing the

lawn. They're taking the Grand Master’s words of wis-

dom to heart. “Clean up your lodge show the people of

your community that you're still a vital part of it…”.

Looking good ladies and I personally would like to

thank you.

Eta Theta Rho has had a busy couple of months.

President Patty Winkleblek visited on October 8th

with two other visitors. The girls presented "Let Me

See Your... " song and Make New Friends. Then on

October 29th we had a fun meeting with the local Boy

Scout Troop and carved over 30 pump-

kins. November 14th showed us at a special meet-

ing where President Faith made her official visit.

There has been some confusion about the

Grand Secretary’s letter in the November Oregon

Pacific Odd Fellow. He was requesting that any-

one who has the option to use email please do. If

you receive it in the regular mail and want to con-

tinue, you will, unless you tell us otherwise.

We’ve had many calls and letters and we apolo-

gize for the confusion.

Despite torrential rain and flooded streets, Peninsula

Lodge No. 128 in North Portland still had 61 children

attend our Halloween carnival this year! Each child

wrote the name of their school on a slip of paper when

they entered. At our Nov. 10th regular meeting, Pen-

insula voted to donate ALL the moneys raised to the

PTA chapters of those schools. Each PTA will receive

a check equaling $12 for every child that attended from

their school. In addition to the many Odd Fellow vol-

unteers, there were also five Masons from Mt. Moriah

Grand Lodge, and six volunteers from the local non-

profit PDX Browncoats on hand to run games and sell

refreshments. It was a great event and fun was had by

all.

Last month after the OPOF was sent out I started going through some boxes that were brought back from the Lodge

hall in Odell. There were a lot of papers that were very old, which I love to read to see what was going on. Kemp

Lodge had quite a few members overseas during World War Two and they kept in touch with the lodge while they

were away. To honor Veterans for Veteran’s Day albeit a month late, I thought I’d share some of what they wrote.

Below is a postcard sent from Germany. It’s hard to read, so I rewrote it on the side. Dec. 14, 1943

Dear Brothers, I ex-

pect you have heard

by this time that I’m

a prisoner of war in

Germany. Am feel-

ing good and sin-

cerely wishing I was

back to attend a few

meetings. Yours in

F.L. T. S.T. Gerking

A letter from the Hood River County Community Chest and National War Chest to Kemp Lodge. Oct 22, 1943: Dear Friends: This is our war. Our men are in it-at the front, or on their way. Our Money is in it-war bonds, stamps, taxes. Our sacrifice is in it– rationing, scarcities, priorities. We can do more. We can help win the war sooner, and

with a minimum loss of life. We can give our fighters, our allies and their families the greatest weapon of them all– THE WILL TO WIN. We’d do more if we could be there. And we can be there through a generous gift…..When the VICTORY comes, then and only then, will the world be guaranteed a measure of safety for our children and our chil-dren’s children. That is what we are fighting for. That is the battle you are invited to join…. More excerpts, all from different men: Officers and Brother Odd Fellows, With much regret I write this letter to inform you that being elected to Noble Grand Chair for the term expiring Jan 1, 1944, I must resign from this office for active service in the U.S. forces. Would liked very much to have been able to serve this term, but as you all know when Uncle says come, well there is

nothing one can do but go….Your Brother Pete Dear Brothers: Please forgive me, I know I’m behind in writing. Been pretty busy. I am now somewhere in France, but I’m hoping to get back to Hood River and darn soon. Shux I just don’t like it over here. Getting lots to eat, K. rations. I’m making lots of coffee, maybe I’ll get as good as Otto. I said maybe. (quite a few letters mentioned Otto’s coffee) For some time now my home has been fox holes and slit trenches….James Creson July 23, 1943: Hope to be back there with you boys some day. I sure had some good times while a member of your lodge. Things are about the same here. Plenty of work and air raids. One can get in a fox hole to get away from

the bombs but can’t hide from the work. We are camped near the sea and get plenty of swimming and some fishing. We are having it easy here compared to some of the other places in this world….Ralph I am now in Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. Don’t know much I can write except keep the fires burning as us boys will be home soon. I hope to partake in some of Otto’s brew and doughnuts…. Jan 20, 1944:...I have eaten my fill of coconuts. And how easily the natives can climb the trees after them and also open them...They wear only a piece of cloth wrapped around their waists, men and women alike, it’s a good thing George xxxx isn't in the Seabees, Tho he might and heed the warning which we received, that if we messed around

with the native women there would be a part of our anatomy that we would have to carry around in a wheelbarrow. And that’s no kidding…..Yours in F. L. T. Elmer E. Masiker Dec 13, 1942, Dear Brothers, Tonight finds me at a desk somewhere in England….But I want to say this much for the people at home, they are sure doing their part and believe me the boys will never let them down….always your Brother Ken From the Grand Lodge Oct.1, 1945: Fraternal Greetings: The war is over and peace again reigns upon the earth, and it behooves us, as American citizens and as Odd Fellows, to put forth every effort possible to prove to the “boys” who sacrificed so much-who paid such a high price for victory-that we are grateful for their valued services….Our

boys did their best for us-let’s do all that we can for them. And above all let us not forget those heroes who

will never return. Fraternally, Ralph L. Russell, Grand Master
