Context
Green spaces and green walking and cycling routes are critical to the health and well-being of our Neighbourhood as more people will live ,work, visit, play and study here in the future.
Purpose
We’ll be discussing and planning desired routes for green walking and cycling routes and the quality of our green spaces across the East Walworth, West Walworth and Rockingham areas.

Here are 3 working definitions of green walks as previously developed by the Forum:
1) Green Links – link one green space to another by extending the amount of green space between the two. These can form pedestrian pathways and woodland edges. An example is Salisbury Row Park where the green link is the meandering path through the park that few cyclists use. These links can improve biodiversity by providing habitats an enable wildlife to move between open spaces.
2) Quiet Green Routes which are lightly trafficked roads and streets used by cyclists, with trees and other planting designed to slow car traffic and improve / green the overall environment. Creating them can involve widening or building out pavements and planting more trees and other forms of greenery.
3) Greened main roads such as the New Kent Road, St Georges Road and Borough Road are often already heavily planted with mature trees. In many cases this planting is part of the historic townscape which contributes significantly to their character and reinforces the perception of them as pleasant and attractive routes.
