In August 2013 Debenhams moved its corporate headquarters from the historic Wigmore Street building (originally the premier Debenhams store in the UK prior to its move to Oxford Street) into the prestigious Regents Place office development in Brook Street, near Euston Station.

Regents Place could hardly have been more different from the Victorian grandeur of Wigmore Street, but it gave Debenhams the opportunity to completely reassess the way in which the back office functioned, and allowed for the modernisation of every aspect of the premier retailer’s back office activity.

Flexiform worked closely with the Furniture Practice, appointed by Debenhams as its furniture consultant. Along with the in-house design team, Furniture Practice developed a furniture solution to deal with the usual requirements of a 21st century office, but also with the needs of a major fashion and household retailer – and all the additional considerations that this brings. As part of this process, Flexiform were selected to provide the storage and desking solutions for the project.

Bespoke Freestor storage units were designed to accommodate everything from filing to split level clothing storage. Garment hanging, sample

storage, clothing accessory shelves, and a variety of other fittings were designed specifically for Debenhams – as were cabinets of bespoke height, width, and depth. Irrespective of the internal configuration of the systems, the overall aesthetic was maintained across all floors and departments, providing a unified interior landscape.

The Pico desking system was selected by Furniture Practice as the ideal solution for Debenhams, and Flexiform were again required to provide a bespoke solution for this aspect of the project. The desks were manufactured to a special width and depth, to ensure that the required occupation density was achieved, while also meeting the ergonomic needs of the staff.

Special deep cable trays were designed to accommodate the chosen power and data solutions, and we also developed a special way of securing the modules to the trays for ease of installation. We even designed a desk-mounted garment hanger for some areas – essential for Debenhams’ specific business needs.

The entire project was delivered to a very high standard and under tight budgetary constraints, providing Debenhams with exceptional value for money.
