For the 19th season, the Aggie volleyball team will call thePan American Center home in 2006.

Although the Pan American Center was originally con-structed in 1968, it wasn’t until late in the 1987 season that theAggies first played a volleyball match in the Pan AmericanCenter. After a trial run resulted in crowds of 2,142 and 3,057attending matches against I-25 rival New Mexico and BYU, theAggies officially moved from their former home in the StudentActivity Center.

In 1988, the Aggies played 10 matches in the PanAmerican Center, going 8-2 with wins over top 20 opponentsBYU and Colorado State. In 1989, the Aggie volleyball programmade the Pan American Center its official home.

For nearly three decades now, the Pan American Centerhas provided a great home court advantage for the Aggies.NMSU is 141-87 (.618) all-time in the Pan American Center andsince the 2002 season, the Aggies have lost just three homematches.

In 2004, the Aggies set a school record for home wins in aseason with 13 victories in the Pan American Center.

The multi-purpose complex, which cost $3.5 million to con-struct, has served as the site for numerous entertainmentextravaganzas. During its illustrious history, the Pan AmericanCenter has hosted the NCAA Men’s Basketball West Regional, several NCAA first and second round games, state high schoolbasketball tournaments and hun-dreds of concerts featuring some ofthe top entertainers in America.

“I think the fact that the PanAmerican Center is a big arena is agreat thing,” head coach Mike Jordansaid. “A lot of teams that come indon’t get to play in big arena like thisso that can be an advantage for us.The proximity to the fans during thematch is also a great thing and ourplayers look forward to marchingdown to the court every time we getto play.”

The Pan American Center willreceive a $22 million upgrade in2006. The Pan American Center willreceive a face lift with new lookerrooms, practice court and coachingoffices as well as better restrooms, concessions and seat backs. Therenovation will also include improvedhandicap seating, an elevator, theaddition of a stair well and a floorentrance tunnel from the locker rooms, as wellas a large team meeting room that will be usedby all three teams and a room for team functionssuch as pre-game meals and banquets.

“The renovation will help us a lot from arecruiting standpoint,” Jordan said. “Recruits aregoing to walk into the new arena and it is goingto blow them away. Right now it is an impressivebuilding, but with a new look, it is going to beeven better.

The New Mexico State University (NMSU) Athletic Departmenttakes great pride in abiding by the National Collegiate AthleticAssociation (NCAA) and the Western Athletic Conference rulesand guidelines that govern Division I competition. For the ben-efit of the many alumni, fans and booster club members who areso active in supporting and assisting the Aggies throughout theyear, we would like to remind everyone of a few definitions andrules that apply to all athletic representatives and boosters.

Institutional ControlIt is the responsibility of NMSU to control its intercollegiate

athletic program in compliance with the rules and regulations ofthe NCAA.Responsibility

NMSU’s responsibility for the conduct of its program includesresponsibility for the actions of its staff members and for theactions of any other individual, booster or organization engagedin activities promoting the athletic interests of the institution.Compliance

NMSU must monitor its program to assure compliance and toidentify and report to the NCAA instances in which compliancehas not been achieved. An institution found to have violatedNCAA rules is subject to disciplinary and corrective actions asdetermined by the NCAA.NCAA DefinitionsAthletic Representative/BoosterYou are considered to be a NMSU athletic representative if you:

• Are a present or past member of a NMSU booster club oragency that promotes the Aggies’ intercollegiate athletic pro-gram;• Have made financial contributions to the athletic departmentor to an athletic booster organization of NMSU;• Are, or have been providing benefits (e.g., summer jobs, meals ect.) to enrolled student-athletes, their family membersor friends;• Are, or have been involved in any manner of promoting theNMSU intercollegiate athletic program.

Please note: Once an individual is identified as an athletic rep-resentative, that person retains that identity indefinitely. NMSUis ultimately responsible for the acts of all “representatives ofathletic interests” in relation to NCAA rules and regulations.Prospective Student-Athlete

A prospective student-athlete is a student who has startedclasses for the ninth grade or above, including students in prepschools and junior colleges as well as students who have official-ly withdrawn from a four-year institution and plan to transfer toanother institution. In addition, a student who has not startedclasses for the ninth grade becomes a prospective student-ath-lete if the institution or a booster provides the individual or theindividual’s relatives or friends with any financial assistance orbenefits that the institution does not provide to prospective stu-dents in general. A good rule of thumb is to treat ALL STU-DENTS as prospects.

by a member of the athletic staff or other representative of ath-

letic interests with a view toward the student' ultimate participa-tion in the intercollegiate athletic program.ContactA contact is any face-to-face encounter between a prospect, or

the prospect’s parent or legal guardian, and an institutional staffmember or athletic representative during which any dialogueoccurs.Recruiting
