Dear Year R, here is your week’s home learning fun based on The Gingerbread Man. Hope you enjoy it, Mrs C x Themed activities: • Use dough or playdough. Salt dough to cook and make decorations. • Have a go at cooking with a grown up. You could make gingerbread men, biscuits or follow a recipe from a book. Weigh the ingredients Gingerbread recipe: www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/gingerbread_men_99096 • Investigate the changes in food- chocolate melting, bread-toast, raw - cooked eggs, popcorn, dough and biscuit, • Make a floating raft for the gingerbread man to cross the river- test it in the bath or sink. • Make sock, stick or spoon puppets for the story • Craft on the gingerbread theme, collage or decorate a large gingerbread man. • Check out the gingerbread themed artwork of Sarah Jane Szikora Literacy activities: Listen to the story of The Gingerbread Man. Use a book at home, You Tube, online story teller or www.twinkl.co.uk Character hot-seating. Pretend to be a character from the story and answer questions: Why were you running away? What do you think of the fox? What did you think when you got to the river? As the fox- How did you trick the gingerbread man? Little old lady- Why did you bake him? Do you cook other things? All characters- Why were you chasing him? Cut out gingerbread man shapes and write tricky ‘red’ words or words containing special friends. These can be hidden (as the gingerbread men are running away) and chased to be found, read and written. The daily set 2 speed sound spelling sessions from Read, write Inc via You Tube. Maths activities: Subtraction. There are gingerbread man subtraction sheets to download and complete at two different levels. Use a numberline to count back when subtracting.
