    DEAR READERS,

“OPTIMIZED FOR THE FUTURE” - this was our ex-hibition stands’ slogan - in capital letters - at this year’s ceramitec and IFAT in Munich. This is what occupies and drives us as the REHARTGROUP. With our products and services we want to pave an optimum way into the future - for our custo-mers, our employees, the environ-ment and, of course, not least for our company.

It is always a pleasure to experien-ce that this can actually work - as you can read in the success story as to the energy saving with the new extruder generation by PE-TERSENSERVICE. Our optimization work also ena-bles us to continuously improve production processes so that there is less wear of the machinery and components, which means that both energy and money can be saved. The sectors sewage technology, in particular with REHARTTHÜRINGEN, and the hydraulic steelworks at our headquarters in Ehingen have been developing very positively during the last year which shows us that we have done the right groundwork for the future.

Nothing works without energy. We need and consume energy to live, but we also want to use it

economically at the same time and not exploit the resources available. Unfortunately, the “energy tran-sition” proclaimed by politicians has not been pursued consistently and so it is up to the consumers and innovative companies to find solutions how to deal with energy responsibly. In our private lives we try to save

energy and money in many ways, however, for companies energy requirement is also a cost factor that should not be underestimated. Here functio-nal solutions are called for to reduce consumption on a long-term basis, so that machinery and sys-tems can be operated economically.

Here is a wonderful success story from Eastern Germany: after a service life of some 25 years the mechanical reliability of the shaping plant in a brick factory, consisting of an extruder PZG60B56 with an upstream double shaft mixer MDVG920G, was called into question. The partial optimization work carried out by REHARTTHÜRINGEN provided for improve-ments, but the company was still challenged with performance issues of the machine. ALMOST TOO GOOD TO BE TRUESaving energy with the new extruder generation by PETERSENSERVICE

ALMOST TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE

With the vacuum extruder VAP 56-60 and the double shaft mixer DWM1000 the company deci-ded on an extremely robust and well thought-out solution that was also to set standards in terms of energy saving.Besides the mechanical reliability of the system to provide for a stable performance of 60 t/h throug-hout the wide product range, the target was set to improve the extrusion of material, in particular with high heat-insulating bricks (50 cm). To achie-

ve reduced drying times the shaping pressure of the extruder was to be increased and at the same time a substantial reduction of electrical energy in-take was also required.

After the completion of the system in the pro-duction halls of PETERSENSERVICE in Netphen, North-Rhine Westfalia, the whole shaping system at the customer’s, including the replacement of the electrical switchboard (by a partner company), as well as commissioning were realized within only four weeks. After the subsequent trial operation of four weeks the system was subject to a test and had to prove its efficiency. In addition to the quali-ty of the product, the focus was of course also on the mechanical performance data and the measu-rement of electricity consumption. The trial opera-tion already hinted that the new shaping would all along the line achieve the target values specified and guaranteed by PETERSENSERVICE. The offi-cial result of the performance test confirmed that this was the case - 100 percent. Both the quality and mechanical performance data fulfilled the custo-mer’s specifications. Saying that, the estimated sa-ving potential as regards energy consumption was by far exceeded. Compared to reference formats produced six months before, savings amounting to 57 - 59 % were achieved.

SOUTH-EAST ASIA, WE’RE ON OUR WAYFlood protection for Malaysia - three strong partners capture the South-East Asian market

“We want to become the number 1 in South-East Asia!” Bearing this target in mind, a corporate mer-ger of three companies materialized at a semi-nar in Kuala Lumpur in January on the subject of “Screw pumps and flood protection”.

Besides REHART GmbH, the companies “Jash En-gineering Ltd.” and “Sam McCoy Manufacturing” are contributing their know-how in this project. For Sam McCoy, a renowned company in the wa-ter technology sector in South-East Asia, the focus is on project management. Jash Engineering has been cooperating with REHART in hydropower technology since 2011. During the last years they have invested some 5 million Euro into setting up their production facilities in India.

As a licensee of REHART GmbH, Jash has already successfully realized some hydropower projects in India.

The positive feedback of the seminar parti-cipants indicates that the concept of the part-ner companies is con-clusive and gives rise to hope that the ambi-tious goal will indeed be achieved.

(Jash Engineering) 2nd from the left, together with Gerhard Wolff (consultant of

REHART GmbH) in the middle and participants of the seminar

A really wonderful result for the operator of the system, and of course also for the machine manu-facturer and, what’s more, it’s an excellent example of how smart solutions can make enormous sa-vings in energy.

  • PERFECT MATCHHydraulic steelwork becoming more and more important

With gates, valves, weir flaps, floodgates, fine and coarse grates the hydraulic steelwork sector at REHART is the perfect match for the hydropower screw program of REHARTPOWER. The wide pro-duct range also includes grate cleaners, whether with horizontal or vertical raking directions. In par-ticular in the context of flood events, the demand for retention basins and their equipment for flood protection are very high. When it comes to design and structure of compo-nents, our competent experts address the custo-

mer demands and prepare everything requi-red for a smooth production and assembly of the project. Depen-ding on the re-quirements, the parts are manu-factured either in stainless or gal-vanized steel and will be fine-tuned in our in-house paintshop - of course in line with the specifications of BAW (Federal Waterways En-gineering and Research Institute)

In hydraulic steelwork, you can also count on RE-HART’s high performance flexibility, as well as quick response times with quotes, manufacture and assembly.

AN AWARD AND A PLEASANT SURPRISEceramitec 2018 in Munich an all-round success

“We certainly didn’t expect this honor and we are delighted about this positive signal from our customers in the brick industry!” was the reaction of Klaus Schülein, Managing Partner of REHART GmbH, after receiving the certificate for third place in the “Best Service Supplier Award 2018” of the trade journal “Zi” (Ziegelindustrie International – Brick and Tile Industry International). “This prize is an acknowledgement of our work and, at the same time, a great incentive for the future!” The journal had carried out a worldwide survey among its

readers to find out which supplier had offered the best service in 2017. In all, 15 companies from the brick industry were nominated and REHART was positioned at an impressive number three. On top of this, our colleague Nico Napolitano also received the award for the best sales representative.

The award ceremony took place at this year’s cera-mitec in Munich. From 10 - 13 April 2018 all renow-ned manufacturers presented their products and services at the leading international trade fair of the ceramics industry. The REHARTGROUP was of course also once again there with a large exhibition stand to offer their customers and future potential customers a forum for meeting and discussion. The highlight at the stand was a video clip speci-ally produced for ceramitec. To illustrate the ent-ire process chain from the clay pit to the finished brick, a film team had been in action in brickworks throughout Germany to film PETERSEN machines first-hand in operation.

The machine on exhibition at the fair – a clay purifier ZAR450G – has already been sold to a customer in the South of Germany. Looking back, our fair team experienced a thoroughly optimistic atmosphere, combined with a positive investment climate in the ceramics industry.

We are delighted with this outstanding – in all sen-ses – fair participation and will continue to work hard to offer our customers the best possible qua-lity and optimal service.

  • GROWTH SECTOR SEWAGEREHARTTHÜRINGEN successful in the new construction and restructuring of wastewater facilities

Unlike “normal” pumps, foreign bodies contai-ned in the water are virtually not a problem for screw pumps. Therefore, this technology is the preferred choice for conveying wastewater in sewage treatment plants. Due to stones, grit and other water contaminants the systems are highly stressed and the wear of components is a big is-

sue for operators. To ensure a smooth and econo-mic operation regular checks and the renovation or new construction of plants, where appropriate, are imperative.

In recent years, REHARTTHÜRINGEN has esta-blished itself as a reliable and competent partner. The technology developed by Friedrich Hornung at the Ehingen headquarters was successfully rea-lized in 2017 at 12 screw pump stations in Eastern Germany, either being renovated or newly cons-tructed. “We offer our customers turnkey solu-tions at predictable prices. From consulting on site to design, engineering, production, assembly and acceptance”, says Markus Schweickert, Plant Ma-nager at REHARTTHÜRINGEN. cluded - are offered and realized by experts.

With screw pumps, guidance facilities and trough the manufacturer’s dimensions are restored or even surpassed. Wear protection is very import-ant for the company. The use of wear-resistant materials at the helix and its outer edge provides for a constant screw diameter which ensures an unvarying performance. Moreover, the coating with the ceramic composite nanoseal offers ex-cellent protection against corrosion and chemical attacks by acids or alkalis. From an energy point of view the restructuring of a screw does make sense. Due to an optimum gap size between the screw and trough the system is able to run at high efficiency and possible loss of energy is reduced to a minimum. This leads to lo-wer power consumption and in the end the ope-rator will save money.

  • EFFICIENCY UP, WEAR DOWNOptimization work by REHART

Companies are always faced with the challenge of working as efficiently and economically as possible. Often the responsible staff members simply don’t have the time to optimize processes when producing ceramic products. This is where REHART comes into it as a service provider and takes on this job.

To shape ceramic products augers are normally used and these are basically much like a meat grinder. A prepared ceramic mass is compres-sed by the rotation of an auger and - depending on the required finished product - extruded as an endless strand by a more or less complex ex-trusion die. The efficiency of this production pro-cess can be estimated by calculating its degree of efficiency from volume that can be theoretically conveyed and the volume that is actually convey-ed. As an average the values ascertained this way amount to approx. 30 percent, which means that the auger has to rotate more than three times to extrude the volume theoretically possible.

In a case study at GTI, one of the largest brick ma-nufacturers on Cyprus, the degree of efficiency calculated this way only resulted in 20 percent. After the actual data were analyzed and evalua-ted, the results were discussed in detail with the operator and possible solutions proposed. The modification of components was limited to the parts coming into contact with the ceramic mass and which have to be geometrically coordinated to perform their task in the best possible way. The reduction of the screw speed from 25 rpm to 9 rpm effected a further improvement.

Due to the measures recommended and car-ried out by our experts the degree of efficiency of the system could be increased to 62 percent with a considerable reduction in energy requi-rement at the same time. Moreover, due to the

With the screen feeder SRBk1900 with conical trough bottom PETERSENSERVICE has expanded its product range. The natural gradient makes emptying easier. This ensures direct conveyan-ce and quicker emptying in the case of a change of mass and color. As always with machinery by PETERSENSERVICE, this screen feeder is equip-ped with quickly replaceable wear parts for all components coming into contact with the mass. Therefore, a quick replacement is ensured at

With Philipp Schülein joining us as Executive Assis-tant and also his wife, Shari Schülein, who is doing a parallel masters course in business management, the next generation is not only all set at the starting gates, but, so to speak, already on their way. This is really something quite special for Klaus Schülein, the founder of the company, it is the opportunity to pass on his life’s work to his son, Philipp.

In their first few months the two young people fo-cused on getting to know the employees, the work processes and how orders are processed, this way gaining a best possible insight into how the busi-ness works. The next generation set to work with a great deal of drive and commitment, putting their heart and soul into their work – not just observing from the sidelines. They have already put their own stamp on the business and are now getting new ideas off the ground.

REHART is supporting the development and pro-fessional training of the young executives through their participation in seminars, for instance “Ef-fective and key leadership values” or “Team buil-ding and development”. Something very close to Philipp Schülein’s heart was a “Value Day”, a day where together we could think about and discuss

what is important for us as a company and what our values actually are. Such an event was carried out in early February.

    OPTIMIZED FOR THE FUTURE

He, who knows the goal, can decide, He who deci-

des, can find peace. He, who has peace, is safe. He,

who is safe, can reflect. He, who reflects, can opti-

    mize.

We are delighted about the “new addition” to the REHART family and look forward to the momen-tum that will find the optimal path into the future for the business. On this path we can continue to be successful and lucrative – not only on a business level, but also for our customers and employees.

    Shari and Philipp Schülein

LOOKING AHEAD TO THE FUTURE?!New concept for interns at REHART

In the last few months the concept for interns at REHART has been completely revised. Since the beginning of this year our interns have been able

to get to know how our business operates with all its processes based on a core product: the REHART pencil holder. Here they themselves are involved in the manufacturing process. This way, the young people not only come into contact with the tasks

that their future training and job will deal with, but they also get to know REHART as an entity and le-arn the A-Z of the REHART products.White-collar interns also have the opportunity of getting an insight into the construction, manufac-turing and marketing side of REHART, alongside their more typical sectors of order processing, pur-chasing and dispatch. This means they get the full picture of the process from the customer’s order to advertising and PR work for the final product. The blue-collar interns also have the opportunity to see the other side, beyond construction and ma-nufacture: the general day-to-day office processes. We think this is a very “round” and successful con-cept. We look forward to welcoming many interns, who can really get to know REHART, and to giving them an insight into what could be their future vo-cational prospects.
