Dear Parents/Carers, Please find below the learning from home unit for Week 1 Term 2. As Monday and Tuesday are Staff Development (pupil-free) days we have provided optional activities for these days. You may also wish for your child to complete the library activity about ANZAC day. Please note that the unit of work contains suggested activities and it is not expected that students complete all the tasks on the set day. Teachers would like to see at least one completed activity from each student a day via the Seesaw app. If you don’t have access to the app you can take a photo of your child’s work and send it to the school e-mail address [email protected] with your child’s name and class as the subject. Teachers will commence giving feedback and commenting on student work on Seesaw from Wednesday Week 1. Please refer to the Skoolbag app for further details about when you will be able to pick up paper copies of the unit if required. We look forward to continuing to work together to support your child(ren) during this time. Please contact your child’s teacher through Seesaw or by leaving a message with the front office if you have any questions. Kind regards, The Stage 1 Team

Dear Parents/Carers,

Please find below the learning from home unit for Week 1

Term 2. As Monday and Tuesday are Staff Development

(pupil-free) days we have provided optional activities for

these days. You may also wish for your child to complete the

library activity about ANZAC day.

Please note that the unit of work contains suggested

activities and it is not expected that students complete all the

tasks on the set day. Teachers would like to see at least one

completed activity from each student a day via the Seesaw

app. If you don’t have access to the app you can take a photo

of your child’s work and send it to the school e-mail address

[email protected] with your child’s name

and class as the subject.

Teachers will commence giving feedback and commenting on

student work on Seesaw from Wednesday Week 1. Please

refer to the Skoolbag app for further details about when you

will be able to pick up paper copies of the unit if required.

We look forward to continuing to work together to support

your child(ren) during this time. Please contact your child’s

teacher through Seesaw or by leaving a message with the

front office if you have any questions.

Stage 1 Learning from Home Unit Week 1 Term 2

MONDAY – Staff Development Day – Optional Activities

Writing – Describe Your Pet

Adjectives are used to describe items and use our senses (what it looks like, smells like,

sounds like, feels like and tastes like). They are used to make your writing sound

interesting.

Use adjectives (describing words) to describe your pet.

Take a picture or draw your pet.

If you don’t own a pet, you can draw a pretend one!

Make a list of words that describe your pet (fluffy, smelly, playful) and then write a

description using these words in your writing.

Activity on seesaw to support learning.

Spelling – Look, cover, write, check your list words. Do three activities from your spelling

conventions book – Unit 11.

Reading

On Seesaw, have a look at the ‘Synonyms’ activity.

Synonyms are words that have the same, or nearly the same meaning. Look at the

examples on page one. Then on page two, use the highlighting tool to follow the path of

synonyms! We can start with angry and mad, then small and tiny, what are the next two?

Maths

What is the place value of the underlined digit?

Example: 23=3 ones, 45=4 tens (40)

Year One: 45 56 12 76 43 98

Year Two: 123 543 785 986 502 764

Choose a 2-digit number (Year 1) or a 3-digit number (Year 2) and use it to fill in the place

value working mat on Seesaw.

Personal Development:

Listen to the story about Amy and Louis

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eG9pW7QDoM8

With your parents/carers discuss these questions:

● Where do Amy and Louis live at the start of the story (Australia). How do we

know? (cooee)

● Where might Amy have moved to? How do we know?

● Why did mum and dad say Amy wouldn’t hear Louis, but Grandma said to try?

● Did Amy actually hear Louis?

Think of your friends and think of how we don’t see our friends as much as we want at

the moment. Make a list of ideas of how we could reach out to our friends without being

with them. How would it make you feel to be able to make contact with some of your

friends? Draw a picture to show how you might feel if you were able to make contact.

Take a photo of your list of ideas and the picture you have drawn and upload it to

Seesaw.

Physical Education: Sport

Draw a plan of an obstacle course with 5 stations, just like the course we do at school

after scripture. Choose an activity for each station that uses movements such as running,

balancing, throwing, jumping and bouncing. Think about where you could do your course

safely, what equipment you could use and how long you will spend at each activity before

changing.

Maybe you could ask your family to join in and take a short video?

TUESDAY – Staff Development Day – Optional Activities

Writing – Describe Your Favourite Toy

Adjectives are used to describe items and use our senses (What it looks like, smells like,

sounds like, feels like and tastes like). They are used to make your writing sound

interesting.

Use adjectives (describing words) to describe your favourite toy.

Take a picture or draw your favourite toy.

Make a list of words that describe your toy (small, hard, colourful) and then write a

description using these words in your writing.

Activity on seesaw to support learning.

Spelling – Write 10 of your words outside with chalk or using different coloured pencils in

your workbook.

Reading

1. Read two books using Sunshine Online. If you do not have access to technology, read a

book from home. Try reading to a pet, a family member or a soft toy. You can even read

aloud and record yourself to post it on Seesaw to your teacher! Make sure the camera is

pointing to the book so we can see what you’re reading.

Make sure you select Number Bonds. Year one can complete the activities for numbers

up to 10 and year two can complete the activities for numbers up to 20. Have a few tries

and see if you can improve on your score each time.

Complete this activity and post it in your journal on Seesaw.

Note: An equation is a number sentence!

Geography

Revision Lesson:

*You will need someone at home to help complete this activity.

On Seesaw, find the ‘Geography T2 Wk1 - Revision Lesson’ Activity.

Listen to the instructions and fill in your answers. Remember that it is absolutely fine to

get help from someone at home when you are filling in your answers. Please pin to your

journal when it is completed.

WEDNESDAY

Writing

Fairy Tale Writing T2 Wk1 - found on Seesaw We are going to look at characters in a narrative, and what we have to think about when we are going to write about a character. Let's look at Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk - go find a copy of the story, or look it up online. Once you have read it, come back to the lesson. Now we are going to create a description of Jack's character. We need to think of his appearance, personality, and feelings. Have a think about it first, then when you have a few ideas, go through the template and highlight the words you think match Jack's character.

Spelling

Look, cover, write, check your spelling words. Complete 3 activities in your Spelling

Conventions books Unit 11.

Handwriting

Practise correct letter formation in your workbook.

Think of as many words as you can that start with the letter ‘Hh’ and write/draw them.

Reading: This activity can be found on Seesaw, or read the poster below:

Reading Activity Week 1 - Robot Chant This task can be completed with someone at home, or independently. If you are able to work with someone, discuss the answers with them - if not, just think about them, or write them down in your journal. 1. Before Reading: Look over the page, and think about what this poem is going to be about. 2. While reading: Try to visualise in your mind, all the activities the robots are doing in the poem. 3. Why do you think the author used robots as the characters for their poem?

Maths

Choose 3 numeral cards from a deck of cards. Add them together as quickly as you can.

Use strategies to help you such as Friends of 10, doubles, near doubles, etc. Repeat this 5

times. Did you get faster each time?

Use a ruler to measure the length of 3 objects at home, e.g. a

tissue box, a book, a fork, a lego block. Draw a picture of the

objects and record their length. 7 cm

Don’t forget to line your ruler up starting at 0!

Take a photo and upload your work on Seesaw to share with your

teachers.

Click the link below for some more practise.

https://au.ixl.com/math/year-1/measure-using-a-centimetre-ruler

Science/STEM To compliment the story, ‘The Robot Chant’, use some empty boxes/containers (or anything you normally recycle) or construction materials, such as Lego, to design and build your very own robot. Tell a family member about the special features you gave it. We would love to see a photo of your robot creation on Seesaw!

THURSDAY

Writing - Describing Yourself

Adjectives are used to describe nouns, or what something looks like, smells like, sounds

like, feels like and tastes like. They are used to make your writing sound more interesting.

See Seesaw for a modelled writing lesson to support your learning.

1. Take a picture or draw yourself (see the Art activity this afternoon!).

2. Write a list of adjectives (describing words) to describe yourself or label your

picture. Remember that we have external (the things you can see) and internal

(our personality) characteristics.

3. Use your list of adjectives to write a description about yourself.

4. Upload your self-portrait and a photo of your writing to Seesaw.

Handwriting

Practise correct letter formation in your workbook.

Think of as many words as you can that start with the letter ‘Bb’ and write/draw them.

Reading - Complete the Word Search on Seesaw

Maths

Go on a 2D shape scavenger hunt around your house. How many different shapes can you

find?

Example: My TV screen is the shape of a rectangle!

Fill in the number of sides and corners for each shape and post in your journal on Seesaw.

Art Your teachers miss you! Draw a picture of yourself and post it in your Seesaw journal so we can see your beautiful faces! It helps if you use a mirror or a photo of yourself to see your features. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfosxuah1uk

FRIDAY

Writing - On top of the beanstalk

Look at the image below. You have just climbed to the top of the beanstalk. Tell us about

the adventure that awaits you.

Maths

An array is a set of objects or numbers arranged in rows and columns.

Arrange your toys in an array then take a photo and post it on Seesaw. Make sure you tell

your teacher how many rows and columns you have made.

Example:

These trucks are arranged in 4 columns of 3 or you could say that they are arranged in 3

rows of 4.

Complete this task on Seesaw and post in your journal.

Music Lesson # 2 - Singing and Playing Music

Dear Stage One students and parents,

Today we will learn to sing an African song called Funga Alafia.

Step 1 - Watch the video and learn hand symbols.

Watch the following video:

https://funmusicmembers.com/at-home/2l1-1/

Then learn to sing the song and use your hand symbols for mi, re and do, along

with the song.

Step 2 - Learn three different percussion parts with body percussion.

Watch the second video:

https://funmusicmembers.com/at-home/2l1-2/

Body percussion is where you play rhythms by clapping, patting your lap or

tapping your fingers together. Watch the video and learn each rhythm for the

drum, the shaker and the triangle.

Step 3 - Find or make three different instruments and perform the

piece.

Hunt around your house and see if you can find or make some musical

instruments to use instead of a drum, a shaker or a triangle.

For the drum: Find a plastic ice-cream container or a bucket that you can hit

with your hands.

For the shaker: Get a small plastic food container, put some uncooked rice in

it, seal it well and shake it!

For the triangle: See what metallic sounds you can find around your house

that sound like a bell. You could just hit two pieces of household cutlery

together!

If you have any questions or if you would like to take a video of your work and

upload it to your Seesaw classroom, I will happily respond to you!
