Dear Parents/Caregivers,

RED SOCK DAY TOMORROW

In support of the great effort and result of Emirates Team New Zealand in the America's Cup it is optional for students to wear red socks this Friday.

Giving out lollies and sweets to celebrate Birthdays.

We have had some parents concerned about the large amount of lollies that students are receiving to celebrate birthdays. Although we don’t have a policy saying that birthday lollies are not allowed I encourage you to tell your children to bring the treats home. Then you as parents can make sure they eat the lollies as part of a well balanced diet.

Please have a great holiday, all of our students have worked hard over a very successful term and deserve a rest.Be safe and we will see you all back for Term 3.

Student Agency

Throughout Term 2 two Year six students, Luke Dorward and Anton Aickin have been working on an action project involving all the values of Forrest Hill School. The boys wanted to improve our school environment by getting a Pohutukawa tree to plant in the school glade. They earnt money by doing community jobs in their neighbourhood. They have had to contact and work together on their project for four weeks. The school thanks them for their efforts and their donation.

Our Garden to Table is now 6 months on and proving to be a huge success with our Year 5 students. As well as learning gardening and kitchen skills, students learn through the New Zealand Key Competencies which are; Thinking, Managing Self, Relating to Others, Participating and Contributing and Using Language, Symbols, and Texts. The success of the programme relies on volunteers to supervise small groups of 4-5 students in either the garden or kitchen. Currently two of our regular volunteers are no longer available to help and we urgently need to replace them. Volunteers could be family members including grandparents, friends, neighbours or parents who can organise one morning from work to assist us. People can help once or more often according to circumstances. Volunteers have an enjoyable and positive experience. Please contact your child’s teacher, the school office 094108939 or email Angela White [email protected] if you or someone you know can make themselves available to help. The programme operates on Tuesdays and Thursdays 9.00am - 10.45am

Road Patrol Supervision Term 3

As this term comes to an end I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many parents that have supervised our school crossings during term 1 and 2.

We are now looking for adults to help out for term 3 and into term 4 for both crossings and for mornings and afternoons.

We are in desperate need for parent help to supervise the Forrest Hill Road crossing and the Bond Crescent crossings before and after school.

This is a great way to get involved with our school, along with supporting our Year 6 monitors in their leadership role.

Please contact the school office 09 4108939 or email [email protected] if you can spare the time to supervise one of the crossings for 20 minutes in the morning and or 20 minutes in the afternoon or to find out further information.

Reminder:

Tomorrow, Friday 7th July is the last day of school for Term 2. Please note school will finish at the usual time of 2.50pm.

The first day of Term 3 will be Monday 24th July.

Have a safe and happy holiday

Newsletter contribution from Room 3 In Room 3 and 4 we have been learning to write narratives. We have been working on having a beginning that introduces the characters and the setting, a middle that introduces the problem and an ending that solves the problem. We have even become publishers as we have turned them into books. Here are a few that we have written:

The Five StarsThe Five Stars loved to dance in the sky. They also loved to perform to the other stars. But one day when they woke up they felt they couldn't dance at all so they went to find their dance and their boogie. Then one of the stars saw a tree dance and boogie so that start told the other stars. Then they picked a leaf off the tree. They ate the leaves and they could dance again.

The Dragon and the PrincessOnce upon a time lived a hungry dragon flying around looking for food. He found a sparkly castle covered in jewels. In the castle lived a princess. Her name was Miya. Her dress was beautiful. She had jewels and sparks and a purple dress. It was so colourful. When she came out from the castle the dragon ate her up. "Ra!!!" the dragon said. Then a man came and heard the roar. "Oh no, the dragon ate the princess" said the man. So the man came and cut the dragon's tummy with a knife. Then the princess came out of the dragons tummy and said "thank you".

The Three CatsOnce upon a time there were three cats called Bingo, Rosie and Alex. It was a sunny day so they decided to go outside to play.Suddenly the clouds went grey but none of the cats saw the grey clouds. Soon it started to rain so they went inside. Then the rain turned into a hailstorm. Rosie checked on the weather report. It said on Sunday the hailstorm will stop but on Sunday but on Sunday the hailstorm still did not stop. The cats had no choice - they had to stop the hailstorm. They went to the cave. That was the Rainkeepers cave. The Rainkeepers were baddies. The Rainkeeper saw two of the cats fighting. One of them called Bingo pressed the stop the hailstorm button and the hailstorm slowly stopped. Rosie got her phone and called the police and they took the Rainkeepers to jail.
