The future begins here for life-long learning in our diverse community: integrity, achievement, success. METROPOLITAN SCHOOL DISTRICT OF WARREN TOWNSHIP July 15, 2015 Dear Parents and Guardians of Raymond Park Middle School: Please let this letter serve as your official welcome to the 2015-2016 school year at Raymond Park Middle School. As the proud principal of the building, I speak for the committed staff of RPMS in saying that we are excited for the opportunity to provide our students with the best in educational opportunities during the school year. Speaking directly to the student perspective, the return to the routines and structure of middle school from a summer of relaxation and fun can be a difficult transition for adolescents to make. I encourage you to take the time to talk with your student about how that transition will serve to facilitate your student’s successful return to the learning environment. I also encourage you to change your routines at home to include an earlier bedtime, a nutritious breakfast, and a designated place and time for study following the school day. A copy of the 2015-2016 Standardized Wear Policy has been posted on the website for your review. I ask that you reinforce with your student that dress code compliance is expected on the first day of school. Please make note of the following information and important dates as the school year approaches: The middle school is comprised of students in grades 7 and 8 and is located on the bottom level of the building. The intermediate academy is comprised of students in grades 5 and 6 and is located predominantly on the upper level of the building. To avoid the potential confusion of having RPMS and RPIA located in the same building, parents must be discriminate in reviewing information connected to Raymond Park and mindful that the two schools have separate offices. The RPMS office is located inside Entrance 1 and the school phone number is 532-8900. Monday, July 27, is the first day of school. RPMS wants parents to get involved, but parents are asked to allow the student to begin the middle school journey on his/her own. During the first week of school, your student will receive a lot of information. Please review the information with your student to insure their understanding of the requirements of success at RPMS. Missing, skipping, or coming to school late is serious business. A good night’s sleep, healthy nutrition, and limited TV and video games during the school week will all help your child be in school. Please join the PTSA (Parent, Teacher, Student Association) of RPMS. Parent participation in his/her child’s school has a direct correlation to the child’s school success. I look forward to serving you and your student for the upcoming school year. I also look forward to greeting you at Back-to-School Night scheduled to occur at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, August 5. The future begins here for life-long learning in our diverse community: integrity, achievement, success.

METROPOLITAN SCHOOL DISTRICT OF WARREN TOWNSHIP

July 15, 2015

Dear Parents and Guardians of Raymond Park Middle School:

Please let this letter serve as your official welcome to the 2015-2016 school year at Raymond

Park Middle School. As the proud principal of the building, I speak for the committed staff of

RPMS in saying that we are excited for the opportunity to provide our students with the best in

educational opportunities during the school year.

Speaking directly to the student perspective, the return to the routines and structure of middle

school from a summer of relaxation and fun can be a difficult transition for adolescents to make. I

encourage you to take the time to talk with your student about how that transition will serve to

facilitate your student’s successful return to the learning environment. I also encourage you to

change your routines at home to include an earlier bedtime, a nutritious breakfast, and a designated

place and time for study following the school day.

A copy of the 2015-2016 Standardized Wear Policy has been posted on the website for your

review. I ask that you reinforce with your student that dress code compliance is expected on the

first day of school.

Please make note of the following information and important dates as the school year

approaches:

The middle school is comprised of students in grades 7 and 8 and is located on the bottom level

of the building. The intermediate academy is comprised of students in grades 5 and 6 and is

located predominantly on the upper level of the building. To avoid the potential confusion of

having RPMS and RPIA located in the same building, parents must be discriminate in

reviewing information connected to Raymond Park and mindful that the two schools have

separate offices. The RPMS office is located inside Entrance 1 and the school phone number

is 532-8900.

Monday, July 27, is the first day of school. RPMS wants parents to get involved, but parents

are asked to allow the student to begin the middle school journey on his/her own.

During the first week of school, your student will receive a lot of information. Please review

the information with your student to insure their understanding of the requirements of success at

RPMS.

Missing, skipping, or coming to school late is serious business. A good night’s sleep, healthy

nutrition, and limited TV and video games during the school week will all help your child be in

school.

Please join the PTSA (Parent, Teacher, Student Association) of RPMS. Parent participation

in his/her child’s school has a direct correlation to the child’s school success.

I look forward to serving you and your student for the upcoming school year. I also look

forward to greeting you at Back-to-School Night scheduled to occur at 6:00 PM on Wednesday,

August 5. Please contact me with any questions or concerns at 532-8904.

When students arrive at school on Monday July 27 , at approximately 7:20 a.m.

Seventh grade students will report to the auxiliary gym, and

Eighth grade students will report to the fieldhouse.

Teachers will be in the halls to help direct students. After all students have been seated in

the designated area, teachers will read the names of students in their academic success class

and then escort the students to the classroom. Class schedules will be distributed and

students will follow their schedules through the school day.

Students do not need to bring any materials, supplies, backpacks, etc. to

school the first day July 27, 2015. Each student will receive a folder and

pencil. Teachers will cover school and classroom procedures. Related

materials will be put in the child’s folder. This folder will be brought home to

the parents. This will give parents a profile of the child’s teachers and classes.

It is important that students receive consistent messages. Procedures are important for a

safe and orderly learning environment. During the first day of school, students will

carefully cover the following topics:

CR-PBIS

Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook

Increasing Positive Interactions, School-wide Discipline Plan

Citizenship Grades

Lockers

Technology Use Policy, Telephones/Cellular Phones

After-School Procedures, Lunch, Hallway, Bus Procedures

Health Services Procedures

Attendance, Tardiness

Mediaplex

First Class Learning Environment

Students must follow directives given by RPMS staff

members.

Students must be respectful to adults and peers.

Aggressive behavior and horseplay will not be

tolerated.

The dress code is in effect beginning with the first day

of school.

The use of personal electronic devices is not allowed in

the learning environment.

All MSD of Warren Township schools will continue the implementation of Culturally Responsive Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (CR-PBIS). CR-PBIS is a research-based framework of proactive management of behavioral concerns that is grounded in a profound emphasis on what we want students “to do”. This model is used district wide to provide a consistent, positive approach to discipline that includes explicit teaching and acknowledgement of behavior expectations, cultural responsive-ness, and problem solving to meet individual student needs.

Each school has a CR-PBIS team. These teams have received extensive training on the components of CR-PBIS and have developed a comprehensive plan for implementation at the building level aligned to MSD of Warren Township’s district goals of C.O.R.E. (Civility, Order, Respect, and Excellence). Each building team uses data to help determine areas of strength and additional supports needed, which aids faculty members in improving academic and behavioral outcomes for all students.

All schools have outlined the specific behaviors that are expected in the school environment. These expectations translate into observable and measurable behaviors that are explicitly taught and acknowledged when students demonstrate them in specific settings throughout the school. This promotes an atmosphere of C.O.R.E. and shifts the focus from our reactions to misbehavior to strategies that we can implement to reduce the incidence of behavioral errors.

your child’s photo, your child’s name, or

your child’s work in district publications,

newsletters, on school district websites,

and in electronic/social media or in staff

training videos. We may also want to tell

the media (including newspapers, televi-

sion and radio) about your child’s achieve-

ments. We never knowingly release infor-

mation about a student to anyone who

wants to use it for commercial/political

purposes. However, we will honor your

request to not include your child in these

types of recognitions if you notify your

child’s school office in writing that you do

not want this type of information released.
