Movie in the Park Night - Saturday, May 14

!

Bring your family, friends, lawn chairs and blankets to the Aquatic Center Park located at 4350 Austin Parkway, Sugar Land 77479 (near intersection of Cross Lakes and Double Lake) to enjoy a FREE movie featuring The Minions on Saturday, May 14th presented by First Colony Community Association. Families will be treated to a recently released animated family movie about three Minions named Keven, Stuart, and Bob. Starting as single-celled yellow organisms, Minions have evolved through the ages; perpetually serving history's most despicable of masters. Continuously unsuccessful at keeping these masters, the Minions find themselves without someone to serve and fall into a deep depression.

Kevin, Stuart, and Bob decide to venture out into the world in search of a new evil boss to follow. Their thrilling journey leads them through space and time to their next potential master, Scarlet Overkill, the world's first-ever female supervillain. With the help of the Minions, Scarlet and her inventor husband Herb hatch a plot to take over the world. Rated PG; show begins at dusk (approximately 8:10 pm) on an outdoor theater system with a 25 foot inflatable screen. Come early (6:30 pm) and enjoy free face painting! There will be no concessions sold at this movie night so bring a picnic basket of goodies and a blanket and enjoy the fun! Invite your friends and be our guest for our community movie night.

DID YOU KNOW?

Rear yard recreation equipment and other structures require the submittal of a property improvement application prior to installing the equipment. This deed restriction refers to playhouses, play forts, trampolines, swing sets, etc. When submitting your form for approval, be sure to include a copy of your site survey showing property lines, utility easements and where the equipment or structure is to be located. Attach a brochure or color photograph and/or a detailed sketch. The equipment must be situated in the rear yard and screened from public view to the maximum extent possible and must be a minimum of ten feet from the rear and side property line. Equipment or structure cannot be taller than 13 feet, must be manufactured using weather resistant materials and be complimentary in color to the house or adjacent structure. Trampolines must have posts for safety nets and must be dark green or black. Shade tarps on play forts or other play equipment must be a solid color - dark blue, dark green, black or brown.

! Hurricane Tips The Atlantic hurricane season begins on June 1st and extends through November 30th. A hurricane warning is issued when hurricane winds of 74 mph or higher or a combination of dangerously high water and rough seas are expected within 24 hours. Take precautions to protect yourself and your family before a disaster arrives. • Find the safest room in your house (in case we get hit hard by

the winds), be prepared for power outages and know how to turn off water, gas valves and electricity at the main switches. Post emergency telephone numbers near phones and teach young children how to call 9-1-1 in case of an emergency. Let all family members know where to meet if evacuation is forced (not likely in our area) and give them various ways to communicate with each other during emergency situations. Make plans for the care of your pets - have food/water/meds for them.

Have A Disaster Kit Ready To Go At A Moment's Notice: • Store these items in close proximity to each other so you can

quickly grab and take: credit cards and case, 3 day supply of water (one gallon per person-per day), blankets or sleeping bags, supply of non-perishable or canned food and a non-electric can opener, change of clothes, rain gear & sturdy shoes, first aid kit and prescription meds, batter powered radio and flashlight with plenty of extra batteries, extra set of car keys and any special dietary needs.

If you or someone you know needs special assistance and/or has impaired mobility, vision or hearing, it is critical to make emergency plans well before a disaster.

One option to consider is to register with the Texas Information and Referral Service at 2-1-1 (877-541-7905 for the deaf). This will list you with the assistance/evacuation registry and the City of Sugar Land's Emergency Phone Bank will call those on the list to check on their welfare and provide transportation if necessary. You must register

annually for this service!

Residential Street Tree Pruning Update

There are no specific neighborhoods scheduled for street tree pruning in June. This is when we typically catch up on any delays that were caused by weather. The pruning will consist of raising the canopy of street trees to provide clearance of at least 14' over the street and 10' over the sidewalk. Limbs that are removed will be chipped and hauled away from the property on the same day the pruning takes place. Street trees are those located in the area between the sidewalk and the street; yard trees are not included in this service. As the trees are a living organism and are constantly growing, additional pruning may need to be done between visits. This is the responsibility of the homeowner as well as any damaged limbs that may need to be removed. If you wish to continue to maintain your own street trees, you may do so by using the form located on our website to notify FCCA no later than two weeks prior to the beginning of the month of your neighborhood's scheduled pruning. If you opt out of the program and

Page 34: Dear Neighbor, Welcome to the First Colony Community ...austinparkneighborhood.weebly.com/uploads/8/9/0/0/8900277/may_… · Free Paper Shredding Event - Rescheduled The free paper

later choose to join, your street trees will not be pruned until the next scheduled pruning of your neighborhood. You will need to inform FCCA in writing if you choose to opt back into the program. Also, if you choose to maintain your own street trees and receive a violation notice from the City or from FCCA, you will be responsible for bringing your trees into compliance and for any fines incurred for failure to do so. For more information about the program, please go to our website at www.firstcolony.org. You may also contact Steve Spears at 281-634-9552 or e-mail at [email protected].
