Utah Southern Parkway, Utah Department of Transportation, St. George, Utah: As senior Structural engineer, Mr. Ghavidel was responsible for design supervision and quality control/quality assurance of Southern Parkway bridges over Long Valley Road, Sand Hollow Road and Warner Valley Road. These bridges are single-span, composite concrete deck, with pre-stressed concrete bulb-tee girder superstructure system. Substructure units consist of integral abutments supported by steel piles. The LRFD method was used for this project. US-40, Roosevelt Intersection, East Lagoon Street Over Cottonwood Creek, Utah Department of Transportation, Salt Lake City, Utah: Responsible for design of a single-cell cast-in-place concrete box (22’ wide by 10’ high) culvert for replacement of an existing three-span concrete rigid frame bridge. The innovative design concept for this replacement was to place the new structure between the existing bridge bents. This substantially reduced the cost of demolition of the entire existing bridge structure to removal of the superstructure only. The maintenance of traffic during construction is reduced, since the new structure can be built under the existing bridge with no impact on traffic above. The Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) method was used for this project. Mountain View Corridor (MVC), Redwood Road to 5400 South, Utah Department of Transportation, Salt Lake City, Utah: As senior civil bridge engineer, Mr. Ghavidel was responsible for design supervision and quality control/quality assurance of MVC bridges (northbound and southbound) over Midas Creek and MVC frontage road bridges (northbound and southbound) over Bingham Creek. These bridges are single-span, composite concrete deck, with pre-stressed concrete bulb-tee girder superstructure system. Substructure units consist of integral abutments supported by steel piles. Existing substructure units are supported by driven steel piles. The widened portions of new substructure units consist of integral abutments and bents supported by concrete caissons. The existing bridge has been retrofit for seismic events and entirely supported by widened portions of the proposed bridge, which also eliminated potential scour occurrence for this bridge. The LRFD method was used for this project 11400 South Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) Crossing, Utah Department of Transportation, Salt Lake City, Utah: Responsible for preliminary design of a simple span, composite concrete deck with pre-stressed concrete girder superstructure system.
