Dear Friends,
Presbyterian Ear Institute had another successful 2015 year! Our speech pathologists and audiologists helped over 500 clients hear and speak better. We had 6 children graduate from the School for Oral Deaf Education. One child returned for Kindergarten, while the others moved on to mainstream schools in their community. We were able to raise over $750,000 through contributions, grants,
and special events to help the children in our school listen, learn and speak. As a result of a grant from a private foundation, the Ear Institute hired an audiologist in July and ended the year with an increase in audiology services by over $28,000. We held three special events that raised over $122,000.
At PEI, we teach children to listen and to speak. We provide them the skills that will open a world of opportunities for them to be successful by being able to communicate using speech and hearing. PEI has helped countless individuals hear, and we have shared in their experiences of being able to engage in conversation and participate in the community. We have provided education and family support to families of infants and toddlers that were born deaf or hard-of-hearing. When children graduate the School for Oral Deaf Education, they move on to their community schools prepared to listen, learn, and use spoken language as their primary means of communication. Thank you for helping us transform lives!
Highlights from the 2015 year: • Through the generosity of so many, we were able to raise over $20,000 to purchase
new state-of-the-art Audiology equipment, allowing us to expand services to people with hearing loss.
• As part of the Cleft Palate Clinic led by Dr. Luis Cuadros, we provided free speech and hearing screenings to children with cleft palate in Gallup, NM.
• Our Speech Pathologists and Audiologists were presenters at the New Mexico Association on the Education of Young Children, expanding the awareness of the Ear Institute to over 500 professionals statewide.
• PEI expanded our School staff by hiring Jacob Phillips, an Oral-Deaf Educator from Mississippi. Jacob works with our preschool children in a small group setting.
• In the 2014-2015 school year, 94% of our children demonstrated one year’s growth in one year’s time in learning new words and expanding language.
Looking ahead, PEI will continue our efforts to increase public awareness of cochlear implants, educational options for deaf and hard of hearing children and training/retraining the brain for sound. We will continue to be New Mexico’s leader in provid-ing hearing technology as well as teaching deaf children to hear and speak. As always, with your support, PEI will be able to better listen, learn and lead to create a brighter future for those we serve. Thank you again for your generosity and continued support!
Warm regards,
Seema Katiyar LaGree

We have made every effort to list all donors of gifts received between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015. We regret any errors or omissions and request that you report corrections to the Development Office @ 505-224-7032.
Ways to GiveThere are many ways to give to Presbyterian Ear Institute (PEI).
All are important and very much appreciated. Gifts are tax-deductible as provided by law.
Gifts of CashThe most popular and easiest way of giving to PEI is in the form of cash gifts, which can be donor-directed and are tax-deductible.
Gifts of Appreciated PropertyA variable alternative to a cash gift is a gift of property. With careful planning, charitable gifts of certain types of assets will bring the donor greater tax savings than gifts of cash.
BequestsThe simplest way to include PEI in your estate plan is to make a bequest to the Institute through your will or to add a codicil to an existing will. Gifts by will enable a donor to make significant contributions that may not have been possible during life.
Gifts in KindDuring the year, individuals give the Institute non-cash items that are in direct support of the Institute’s mission but are considered a different type of gift due to their non-cash nature. Examples of such gifts might include computers, books, sports equipment, receptions, and advertising.
Gifts of Life Insurance Naming PEI as the owner and beneficiary of a life insurance policy is a good way to make a large donation with a nominal cost to the donor. Premiums for such policies are tax-deductible.
Honor and Memorial GiftsEvery year, PEI receives gifts “in memory of” or “in honor of” members of the community. Memorial and honor gifts are applied to the area of the donor’s
direction. Pei is very grateful for this meaningful support.
Planned Giving and our EndowmentBequests currently comprise the single largest source of dollars donated to endowments, but they are just one way in which a person may make a planned gift. Other tax benefit options include trusts, insurance policies, gifts of appreciated assets, and the creation of family foundation. Regardless of the vehicle used, you are helping build a last endowment for the benefit of the programs and people served by the programs provided by PEI.
Used Hearing EquipmentIf you have used hearing equipment that you are not using, please consider donating it to Presbyterian Ear Institute. We will put it to good use!
Old Car? Donate it to PEI. We will be happy to take it off your hands and you will get a tax-deduction.
Shop On-lineDid you know that when you shop with AmazonSmile your purchase can benefit PEI? The Amazon Foundation will donate 0.5% of your eligible purchase to the Institute. It’s easy! Log in at smile.amazon.com and select Presbyterian Ear Institute as your charity. We appreciate your support.
Should you wish to receive information about making a gift to PEI, please call our Development Office @ 505-224-7020. We will be happy to assist you.
Thank you!
Be on the lookout forPEI events as we celebrate
in 2017!
