Dear friends in Christ at American Lutheran Church, Suzanne and I want to thank all the members of American Lutheran for the hospitality you have shown us during our first week in Milbank. Your thoughtfulness is much appreciated and we look forward with hope and expectation for the opportunities for mission and ministry together in the New Year. INTERIM MINISTRY TASKS Some of the key tasks of interim ministry as stated in the SD Synod interim ministry manual. 1. Review the congregations history 2. Be open to accept and welcome other styles of pastoral ministry. 5. Assist with the development of the congregational mission profile. 6. INTERIM MINISTRY TASKS

Some of the key tasks of interim ministry as stated in the SD Synod interim ministry manual.

1. Review the congregation’s history

2. Be in contact with the Bishop, the synod staff.

3. During the interim ministry period, a

congregation can ready itself spiritually with a

renewed commitment to the Gospel.

4. Be open to accept and welcome other styles of

pastoral ministry.

5. Assist with the development of the

congregational mission profile.

6. Carry out the responsibilities as stated in the

ministry.

MISSION & MINISTRY 2018

As we approach the beginning of a new year, much

is being written about what to expect in the year

ahead. How will the church adjust and adapt to the

coming changes? Who will be called to guide us as

our new pastor? Will we be ready to embrace the

future with confidence and hope?

WILL WE BE AN

“ACTS 10” CHURCH?

There is always a natural resistance to change. The

four Gospels in the New Testament record how the

people in Jesus’ day resisted the new directives

Jesus gave in his teachings. Jesus challenged the

people to look at their relationship with God and

others from a new perspective. In the Sermon on

the Mount, Jesus says, “You have heard that it was

said to the people long ago … but I tell to you”.

(Matthew 5 NIV) A new and vibrant faith, Jesus

taught, needed freedom to stretch and expand.

In the tenth chapter of Acts, we can read about the

vision of Peter and how he was called to step outside

the established traditions of his day in order to reach

out with the Gospel message. Peter had a vision of

what God had called him to do and said later, “I now

realize how true it is that God does not show favorit-

ism but accepts men from every nation who fear him

and do what is right.” God’s message was for all

people. That was a new concept in Peter’s day. The

church in every age has had to adapt and change in

order to communicate the Gospel message. As we

begin a new year I am certain the members of Amer-

ican Lutheran did not anticipate technological

change that has taken place in the 21st century and

what might take place in the years to come. We are

called in our day to proclaim the changeless message

of God’s love for his creation in a new and fresh

way to our generation.

As we prepare for the New Year, how will we

approach mission and ministry together –

T.T.W.W.A.D.I. or P.A.W.T.A.C.D?

Grace and Peace to you during the New Year,

Pastor Bob & Suzanne Hansen

Happy New Year from ALC Preschool!

The month of December was quite busy and filled with much excite-ment for all the Christmas festivities in and out of our classroom.

We prepared and rehearsed for our performances (Sunday morning worship service and the Milbank Rehabilitation Center), creating art masterpieces displayed in the hallway, making gifts to give, and read-ing stories about Christmas including the story of Baby Jesus’ birth.

We continued our annual tradition of making gingerbread houses adorned with lots of frosting and a wide variety of candies. For

some, this was a first time experience and they loved taking it home to show their families. Before holiday break, all students enjoyed a fun-filled morning of watching a movie, eating some yummy treats, partaking in holiday themed activities, singing, and opening gifts.

Wishing you a wonderful 2018 filled with peace, love, & happiness!

On behalf of ALC Preschool, we’d like to say THANK YOU to all those who helped in making the Souper Sunday Challenge a SUCCESS —

volunteers, soup/dessert makers, and attendees.

We are blessed for your generosity!!!! You made it a GREAT event!

During the month of January, ALC Preschool is selling Hardee’s

Bucks as a fundraiser. They are $1.00 each and you can buy as

many as you’d like. Stop by the Preschool or Church Office, or

grab some after church on Sunday mornings. THANK YOU FOR

YOUR SUPPORT!
