Athens is celebrating. Citizens, residents but also visitors, every-one in Athens – the entire city of Athens claims a place in thefuture. A breath of light mood, uplifting, music and play.

This year, through all the difficult and unexpected events,Athens was lit with its Christmas decorations earlier, as mostEuropean and international capitals, sending a message of sol-idarity and peaceful coexistence among peoples.

Athens is celebrating and celebration is a uniting force. This iswhy all 243 events that the City of Athens has prepared thisyear, music, dance, theater, activities for the young and the notso young, spread from the city center, to the city’s neighbor-hoods and edges.

Because it is in difficult times that we seek the company of oth-ers. The closeness to our community. To what was called“demos” in ancient times, in this very city, and still remains thesoul of Athens.

Athens is a hospitable, lively and safe European capital. Democ-racy and freedom will not please those few who invest in fear.

We invest in peaceful coexistence, respect for human rights. Inthe joy of celebrating. In the right to hope.

Citizens of Athens,

Our city, Athens, is once again ready to welcome Christ-mas. The great celebration of hope and solidarity.

Athens is us. A city is its citizens. Thus, we are the ones whomust send out in all possible ways the message that wewill not quit and we do dare to face the current challengesand come out stronger.

In the Culture, Sports and Youth Organization of the Mu-nicipality of Athens we have prepared a festive programwith artistic and educational activities in all Athenianneighborhoods. We choose culture and art as the mediumfor sending love, solidarity and optimism to every heartbeating in this city.

Syntagma square, as well as all squares and neighbor-hoods in the city center shall be filled with impressive in-stallations, offering numerous interactive activities andopportunities for play and creative entertainment. Care-fully selected, remarkable musical and theatrical groupswill be giving concerts and performances.

Come and let us draw strength from one another.Let us send a message of hope throughout the world.Athens does not quit!
