Dresden Elementary PTO Welcomes You

Dear Families,

Welcome to Dresden Elementary PTO! We are excited for another fun-filled school year. All parents or guardians of children attending Dresden Elementary, as well as each staff member, are members of the PTO and are encouraged to participate in our activities.

The Dresden PTO is here to create opportunities and enrich the lives of our children. Throughout the year, we sponsor many activities and fundraisers. Through our efforts and the support of our parents and volunteers, we are able to pay for school assemblies, classroom libraries, bus gas for field trips, teacher start-up supplies, playground equipment, and other school activities such as Field Day and much more. Last year, we raised almost $30,000.

This year’s major fundraisers will be the Scottie Walk-a-thon in the fall and the Spring Festival. We also sponsor several smaller fundraisers and programs such as Spirit Day, Market Day, Box Tops, Labels for Education, two Book Fairs, Holiday Grams and Secret Santa. You will find information about these programs on the following pages.

We have been fortunate in the past to have many parents and community members volunteer their time and efforts to make our school a better place. To continue our great work, we need to continue to have active participants. Please look at the volunteer information, located in this packet, and consider giving whatever time your schedule allows.

Feel free to call or e-mail me or any of our officers (listed below) if you have any questions or comments about the Dresden PTO. Together, we can make a difference!

Sincerely,Amy MeadowsDresden PTO President

Scottie Walk-a-thonSeptember 14

On Friday, September 14, our students will participate in the “Scottie Walk-a-thon.” Each class will walk for a specific time and try to complete as many laps as possible. Each child will receive a “lap card” that will be marked every time they complete a lap.

Students will earn prizes based on how many pledges they get from friends, family and neighbors. The more pledges you get, the more prizes you can win!

The Walk-a-thon is our fall fundraiser. The money we raise will pay for school assemblies, classroom and library support, fun family events throughout the year and more.

We will also celebrate Fitness Week – September 10-14 – with fun activities all week long. We will kick off this special week with a PTO Family Fitness Night on September 10 from 6-8 p.m.

We are asking for your help! We need area businesses to sponsor our walk-a-thon. These monetary donations will help us purchase prizes and t-shirts for students. Please use the form below to become a sponsor.

If you have questions, please call Melissa Bell at 819-4450.

Volunteer Opportunities – We Need You!

We hope you will join our great team of volunteers. Volunteers are such an important part of the success of our school, helping both teachers and students. We’re always eager to find more great people to help us meet our goal of enriching the lives of children.

We don’t expect a huge time commitment. An hour can be a big help to our group and the school, and we have tasks to fit all schedules and interests. If every family would commit to just a few hours of helping out throughout the year, we could do amazing things for our kids and our school.

Research shows that students whose families are involved in their education have better grades and fewer discipline problems. By volunteering, you will get to enjoy interacting with the kids, become friends with other parents, and accomplish things that truly make a difference. We promise that the time you give the school will be worth the while – and fun!

While many of our volunteers are moms, we encourage dads, grandparents, aunts, uncles and other friends and family members of our students to volunteer. We welcome everyone to fill out the Volunteer Interest Form and sign the Volunteer Release Form on the back.

Please fill out only one form per family and return it to school with your oldest child by August 31 to be entered into a drawing for a $25 gas card.

Once we receive your completed form, we’ll contact you with more information.

If you have any questions, please call our Volunteer Coordinators Heather Stafford, [email protected] or Samantha Mizer, [email protected]. Both can be reached at 754-4001.

If and when you volunteer, don’t forget to sign the volunteer book at the front desk in the office. Those who volunteer more than 20 hours throughout the school year will be invited to the district’s volunteer banquet in the spring. PWe look forward to seeing you at school!
