Travel & Accommodation:

Belgium has two main airports: Brussels –Zaventem and Brussels South- Charleroi.

Travelling from the airports towards Ghent is possible by taxi, but rather expensive (+/- 100

euro).

As an alternative you can choose to take the train from Brussels-Zaventem. Brussels airport

has its own railway station located below the terminal (basement level-1) where you can

easily take the train to Ghent. When leaving Ghent and travelling towards the airport by

train, you must keep your train ticket close at hand upon arrival at Brussels Airport. You will

need to scan it at the automated access gates. (Visit: http://www.belgianrail.be/jp/nmbs-

routeplanner/query.exe/nn for the schedule and reservations)

From Brussels South-Charleroi, there is a direct bus line, Flibco (visit:

https://www.flibco.com/en#/booking for the schedule and reservations)

Upon your arrival at the Ghent station (= ‘St-Pieters’ station), tram 1 (towards EXPO) will

bring you directly and within 8 minutes at the main entrance of the hospital AZ Maria

Middelares (get off at the last but one stop or ask the conductor for the ‘Maria Middelares’

stop).

Hotel: we can recommend Astoria Hotel Ghent ***, Achilles Musschestraat 39, 9000 Gent,

Belgium. Visit: http://www.astoria.be/. (E) [email protected]; (T) +32(0)9 222 84 13 . This

hotel is very nearby the Gent station ‘St Pieters’, from where you can easily take tram 1 to

the Hospital Maria Middelares (direction EXPO). The same tramline (tram 1) in the opposite

direction (direction EVERGEM) takes you into the city center (Stop ‘ de Korenmarkt’ = 7th

stop from St Pieters).

Please, mention ‘symposium DE BABBELAARS’ during your reservation at the Astoria hotel. The

cheapest way for reservation is by contacting the hotel directly or through the hotel website

www.astoria.be.
