Dear Alumni & Friends,
We invite you to join Duquesne University alumni and friends on a trip to Cuba. From February 2-7, 2020, we will experience a true cultural exchange with Cubans as we learn about their daily lives, as well as their rich cultural heritage.
Our journey will cross a cultural divide and delve into the iconic art, history and economics of the Cuban people. Whether we’re walking through a local park to check out classic cars, savoring farm-to-table Cuban delicacies or dancing to the infectious beat of the salsa (oh, yes, lessons included!), Havana will leave you with a renewed zest for life.
Take a look through this brochure and you will see how rich this travel program is with Cuban culture, art, dance, history, architecture, literature and agriculture. Please don’t wait; space is limited. Take advantage of this great opportunity to experience the very best of Havana while enjoying the adventure with other Duquesne University alumni and friends.
Space is limited. Available to Alumni, their families and friends.

RESERVATION FORM: Adventure Galápagos and the Mysteries of Machu Picchu
Dear Duquesne Alumni and Friends,
We invite you to join us for an expedition to South America to experience two of the world’s most treasured cultural and natural wonders: Inca Peru and the Galápagos Islands!
Our journey will begin in Lima, Peru’s capital, then take us into the heart of the Sacred Valley, where we’ll witness the cultural legacy of the Inca, and visit Machu Picchu twice, with a stay at a National Geographic award-winning hotel. Then, we’ll spend a night in Quito before embarking on our up-close adventure in the Galápagos Islands, experiencing world-famous wildlife as well as local communities and vital conservation initiatives.
You won’t want to miss this unforgettable journey. We expect our limited space will fill up quickly. Please make your reservation as soon as possible to guarantee your spot!

GALÁPAGOS ISLANDS & PERU
Adventure Galápagos and the Mysteries of Machu Picchu
March 22 - April 6, 2020
courtesy of Duquesne University’s Center for Global Engagement
ACTIVITY LEVEL: MODERATE TO ACTIVE Trails are relatively easy to moderately challenging with uneven terrain; island transfers can be in rough waters. Expect to walk up to three miles per day and be on one’s feet for up to three hours at a time. Highest elevation: 11,152 ft.
• Have a traditional lunch with members of a local family in the Sacred Valley, take part in an ancient Pachamama ceremony led by a shaman and visit the community of Chincheros, famous for its colorful woven textiles.
• Visit the Sacred Valley of the Incas and explore the mysterious ruins of Machu Picchu.
• Experience the Galápagos archipelago by private yacht on a 4-night cruise aboard the M/Y Bonita to 3 islands, motoring by night.
• Explore the fascinating geological features of Isabela Island by land including natural pools and estuaries, lava flows, caves, and Sierra Negra.
• Snorkel among iconic wildlife of the Galápagos, like sea lions, turtles, marine iguanas, and Galápagos Penguins.
WHY GALÁPAGOS BY LAND? Experience the famous islands as an insider with more in-depth and hands-on activities. Local experts and naturalists connect you closer to the unusual birds, sea life, and terrestrial animals that have evolved in “nature’s laboratory,” brimming with biodiversity.
Get ready for the experience of a lifetime! This compelling itinerary explores two “must-see” destinations, Machu Picchu and the Galápagos Islands, from a fresh perspective. Begin your 16-day adventure exploring the highlights of Peru, including the archaeological site of Sacsayhuaman, the salt mines of Maras, the colonial buildings of Cusco and Lima, and of course, Machu Picchu. Continue your journey discovering the heritage, sustainability and conservation of the Galápagos Islands with a 4-night cruise through San Cruz, Floreana and Española, followed by three nights at a deluxe eco-lodge. Plus, you’ll have time to explore Quito, Ecuador’s capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The guided tour is about two hours and you have the rest of the day to enjoy this magical place on your own. Machu Picchu, known as “The Lost City of the Incas,” is probably the best known yet least understood of all Incan sites. The quality of the stonework and the abundance of ornamental sites indicate that Machu Picchu must have been an important ceremonial center, but knowledge of the city’s history has been lost over time. Upon arrive check-in at your hotel – one of

Overnight aboard M/Y Bonita. (BLD)
MARCh 29 - GALáPAGOS This morning, explore Cormorant Point, famous for its dark green beach (due to olivine crystals). You can see many marine invertebrates, sea lions, marine iguanas, frigatebirds and pelicans. Visit Devil’s Crown, a group of rocks that resemble a crown due to the sea’s erosion. Enjoy a panga ride around a small island, then snorkel in the interior and around the crown. After lunch aboard the yacht, take a short walk around Post Office Bay and learn about the history of the mail system on Floreana. You can leave postcards to your friends and relatives here and/or pick up mail to deliver. Back at the ship, delicious snacks and beverages are waiting for you. Overnight aboard M/Y Bonita. (BLD)

Be prepared with motion sickness medicine over this 2-hour transfer. Check in at Scalesia Eco-Lodge, a safari-style tent resort amid lush forest on the slopes of a volcano. This evening attend an introduction on the story of the lodge and their contributions to sustainable ecotourism in the Galápagos. Overnight at Scalesia Lodge. (BLD)
