Causeway School is an small 11-16 comprehensive school of approximately 600 students. The school is 19 years old, built in 1998 and is co-located with Hazel Court Secondary Special School.

There is an overwhelming sense of community that exists at the heart of Causeway School, bringing together students, staff, parents and carers.  As Headteacher my mission is simple: to ensure that every single member of the school community is ‘putting achievement first’, fostering happy, confident learners who leave school with the right skills and qualifications for the world they are growing into.

Causeway School has an exciting future as we strive to become one of the most improved schools in the country.  We aim to personalise students’ experience of school so they flourish and attain the highest possible standards academically, socially and morally.

Our curriculum delivers a wide variety of opportunities to learn beyond the normal school day, through a wealth of extra-curricular and independent learning opportunities.  We have extremely high expectations both inside and outside the classroom.  Behaviour for Learning is a real strength of the school and students flourish in a safe and calm learning environment.

The Post

We are seeking a positive and enthusiastic individual to work as part of our reception team providing first class reception to visitors coming into school. There will also be an element of administrative work so the ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills with knowledge of a range of computer applications.You will be self-motivated and be able to use your own initiative to achieve the high standard required, you should be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills.

You will be expected to train as a First Aider and also cover reprographics if required

JOB TITLE Receptionist

GRADE East Sussex Single Status Grade 4

RESPONSIBLE TO SIMS, DATA & Examinations Manager

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB To provide an efficient reception service for the school, dealing with all callers, both on the telephone and in person, promptly and courteously. To provide a reprographics service for the school as required. To be a first aider for students.

Main Functions

1. To answer all incoming calls, both internal and external, redirecting/taking messages as necessary, and acting on instructions received. To relay messages to staff and students.

2. To receive all visitors and ensure they sign in and out in accordance with the school’s procedures

3. To deal with general day to day queries from staff, students and parents

4. To run the medical room; keeping appropriate records; provide first port of call medical triage; be an up to date qualified first aider (it is a condition of this post that first aid qualifications are not allowed to lapse)

5. To accept mobile phones and other students’ belongings for safekeeping

6. To word-process school documentation as requested

7. To arrange all outgoing mail, purchasing new stocks of stamps / meter credit when required. To receive and distribute all incoming mail.

8. To cover reprographics work for the school as required

9. To word process / DTP and produce school reports and copy and prepare them for issue to students as required

10. To word process and produce posters, programmes and tickets for special events

11. To keep the photocopying and print machines in good working order

12. To undertake reprographics work in the most cost effective way

13. To order supplies as appropriate and keep reprographics departmental accounts

14. To providing a binding and laminating service as required

15. To assist staff with queries and photocopying and provide on the job training for members of staff in the correct use of photocopiers

16. To assist the Finance Manager with school uniform sales where appropriate

17. To be responsible for taking bookings for meeting rooms

18. To assist the Finance Manager with the collection and receipt of monies relating to school trips / uniform

19. To carry out the above duties in accordance with the Education Department’s Equal Opportunities Policy.

This job description sets out the duties of the post at the time it was drawn up. The post holder may be required from time to time to undertake other duties within the school as may be reasonable expected, without changing the general character of the duties or level of responsibility entailed. This is a common occurrence and would not justify a reconsideration of the grading of the post.
