Marriage has been redefined and demands that the restructuring of the nuclear family be restructured. At mes like these, or mes of tragedy, or upheaval people will ask Where is God in all this?”. Let us all pray for America, our leaders and all its people that through a soſtening of our hearts and an opening of our minds civility, peace and unity may come to pass. WHEN in the Course of human Events, it becomes necessary for one People to dissolve the Political

Bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the Powers of the Earth,

the separate and equal Station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, WE

hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their

Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of

Happiness…

This weekend we celebrate the 244th signing of the Declaration of Independence. What makes the

document so powerful and unique is Jefferson’s acknowledgement that all things flow from God.

The opening paragraph claims the equality of people is rooted in both the Laws of Nature and of

God: that Men are created equal, endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, such

as Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Jefferson wrote that during a time of unrest and

division. Once freed of English rule our imperfect nation failed to recognize the equality of all

people, leading to another division and the Civil War. Since then great progress has been made to correct “sins of the past”. Yet,

today once again we are a nation divided.

I have watched the events of the last few weeks with growing disbelief and anxiety. Having lived through the unrest of the

1960s and 1970s I see the ugliness, violence and intensity of these protestors and rioters as

greatly exceeding that of times past.

It is not surprising really, because the 60s and 70s marked the first noticeable turning from

God faith and all matters related to them. Now, 50 or 60 years we find ourselves deeper into

that turn. There are 58 Facebook genders and 112 on Tumblr. Abortions are prevalent,

marriages, not so much so. Marriage has been redefined and demands that the restructuring

of the nuclear family be restructured. At times like these, or times of tragedy, or upheaval

people will ask “Where is God in all this?”. The answer is “Exactly where we as a country have

put him.”

Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon

you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart and you will find rest for

yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”

Jesus lived in a time of upheaval, civil and religious unrest and rebellion. Judea was under the

yoke of Rome. Religiously they were under the yoke of the Law. Jesus added to the confusion

Farewell to Fr. Dave Sunday, July 12 Starting at 1 pm

Parking Lot of St. Michael Church Gibbstown

We are planning a vehicle drive-through farewell for Fr. Dave on Sunday, July 12. Please enter the parking lot off of the School Street Entrance a few minutes before 1 pm and pull into a parking space. The procession of vehicles will be directed through the parking lot, onto Memorial Ave and into the horseshoe driveway in front of St. Michael Church. There you will be able to greet Fr. Dave. The front and passenger side of your vehicle will be visible to Fr. Dave as you pull up. You are welcome to decorate your vehicle if you’d like. Please check back on the website for changes/cancellations due to inclement weather.

Reopening Guidelines for Public Worship

Phase 1

1. The faithful are to maintain a 6-foot dis-

tance from each other at all times.

2. Members of a single household do not need to

practice physical distancing with each other

and so may sit together in the same row.

3. Doors are to be propped open as people enter

and leave the church so that people do not

need to touch the door handles.

4. Choirs are discouraged, especially if seated

together.

5. Church cry-rooms and chapels are to be

closed when Mass is being celebrated in the

main church. 6. Altar servers are not to minister at this time. 7. The priest celebrant and other ministers are

not to wear masks or gloves during the cele-bration of Mass.

8. The offertory procession (bringing up the gifts) is to be omitted.

9. Holding hands during the Our Father is not permitted except among family members.

10. Holy Communion is to be distributed AFTER the celebration of the Mass – this respects the symbolic and liturgical integrity of the Mass (which should be celebrated without mask or gloves).

11. The faithful may depart after making a brief prayer of thanksgiving using only the EXIT doors and maintaining physical distancing
