Leif.designpark, a Japan-based design studio consisting of Takashi Ueno, Mamoru Naito and Keizaburo Honda, has been designing products in a variety of natural materials, with a specific emphasis on wood since 2006. Leif.designpark holds monozukuri (the art of traditional craftsmanship) in high esteem, and values the warm, playful relationship between a product and the user, as well as the comfort of the space where the two enjoy interaction. Their aesthetic is a result of applying
monozukuri to the construction of modern designs to give the products a connection to traditional Japanese culture. The team works on a range of projects including interiors, art and product design. Their designs convey an artistic use of natural materials in sensuous forms. Since 2007, De La Espada has manufactured and distributed select designs from their portfolio.www.leif-designpark.com
‘Drawing on century-old Japanese craft traditions and ancient mythology, the team has created highly original, sometimes whimsical, works’, Wallpaper* magazine.

Charlene Mullen is a London-based designer of textiles and accessories. She has over 15 years’ experience in the fashion industry as a freelance designer of textiles for clients including Dolce&Gabbana and Karl Lagerfeld. De La Espada’s dedicated factory in Portugal specialises in solid wood, hand crafting and traditional construction methods, creating modern furniture with timeless appeal and the warmth of solid wood.
De La Espada designs are understated, timeless and functional, making generous use of solid wood planks in dramatic proportions. Each piece is characterised by traditional joinery
and the natural colour and grain variations of the timber. The De La Espada aesthetic evolved from influences including the Arts and Crafts movement, architects such as Tadao Ando, Luis Barragan, John Pawson, and Alvaro Siza, and Scandinavian design from the 1950s.
‘...De La Espada, a curious factory without time: minimal forms, wood, amodernity that casts its eye at artisanal tradition’, Case da Abitare
