Environmental Sustainability

Auko-Tex Group does understand that environment goes with reaction theory- it returns what we give to it. If the cycle of nature collapses somewhere, the earth cries and we pay for it directly or indirectly. ATG strives hard to decontaminate the emitting air out of the factory, gives efforts to decompose every drop of contaminated water and devotes to enrich the soil.

Projects Relating to Environmental Sustainability:

Better Cotton Initiative (BCI):

- In 2012, ATG joined BCI based in Geneva, Switzerland. Its aim is to bring together producers, ginners, mills,

traders, manufacturers, retailers, brands and civil society organizations in unique global community.

- The focuses are 1. to demonstrate the inherent benefits of cotton production for farmers 2. to reduce

impact of water and pesticide use on human and environmental health.

- BCI cares about matters of women, child labor, wages, health, safety and forced labor.

- Through the program ATG uses around 60% of Better Cotton, which is quite more than its yearly

commitment of 20% to 30% of uses.

Organic Trade Association (OTA):

- Yasin Knittex Industries Ltd is an associate member of OTA since 22 April 2013.

- Its mission is to promote and protect organic farming and trade to the benefit of environment,

farmers, public and economy.

Water Foot-print Network: - ATG has been a regular partner since April, 2013. One of its main purposes is to give guidelines for

decreasing water use in the factory of water per kg fabric production. - With the philosophy of Water Foot-print Network, water uses per kg fabric production have been

reduced from 165 liter to 96 Liter under PaCT program. - In fact, Water Footprint Network takes much broader perspectives to address the impacts caused

by population growth, urbanization, climate change and unsustainable uses.

Cleaner Production (CP)

- ATG joined IFC-supported CP program in 2011. Participation in CP contributed huge benefits to Auko-Tex Group in improving management efficiency of water, chemical and energy.

- It has helped reduce uses of water, dyes, chemicals, energy to a satisfactory level. - ATG took initiatives in sewing machine, iron table, tube Light, steam line, boiler feed tank, Green

House Gas emission.

Cleaner Production (CP) under PaCT:

- After successful participation in CP, ATG has been involved with PaCT in January 2013. It focuses on wet processes and energy savings.

- After a deep dive assessment, ATG received 58 recommendations on different areas and out of them, 37 recommendations are already implemented.

- The areas of work were data collection, total fabrics production, total reworks, total water consumption for dyeing-finishing, avg. water consumption, bulk right first time (rft ), insulating steam pipe line, etc.

- It helps save energy by insulating the steam pipe lines and boiler feed tank.

H2O Insight Project:

- In 2013, ATG joined this website-based H2O Insight Project developed by C*Insight to gather data

on wastewater quality and control methods through supply chain.

- The online Project allowed for the submission of wastewater and water use for sharing laboratory

test, certifications, discharge permits and regional regulatory standards, and these met the

sustainable water group guideline like sampling and traditional parameters, chemical constituents,

zero tolerance activities, publicly owned treatment works along with other requirements.

- Through the participation the program, Auko-Tex Group has become more aware of the relevant

things and developed its own expertise.

Carbon Neutral Project

- Auko-Tex Group is relentlessly trying to reduce GHG/carbon emission.

- It has a number of self-initiated research program to be well aware of the effects of Greenhouse

Gas Emission and ways to address them.

- We went through key components of the Kyoto Protocol, Japan in 1992, besides other studes.

- Now we are more aware of importance of reducing energy, replacing fossil fuels with renewables,

introduction of advanced technologies for reducing energy and procuring energy efficient products

with clear concepts.

Environment Management System (EMS):

- ATG identified some specific areas like air, water, noise and soil pollution to be taken care.

- It understands the impacts on environment from electricity, generators, boiler operation, production, packaging, laboratory operation, office activities, transports, general storages and chemical storages.

4R Project (as Coming Project)

4R is a new Project with ATG. The principles of 3Rs are to Reduce waste, Reuse, recycle and Recovery resources and products.

- “Reducing” means choosing to use items with care to reduce the amount of waste generated.

- “Reusing” involves repeated use of items or parts of items which still have usable aspects.

- “Recycling” means the use of waste itself as resources.

- “Recovery” means producing power from waste which cannot be reduced, reused or recycled.

- In fact, some of the ideas of 4Rs- “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover”, have been idealized and practiced by us under some other banners with different Auko-Tex Projects.

Solar Power Project: For the Renewable power generation, solar power project is considered to be undertaken. At the initial stage for security light, outer perimeter and for the stairs of the factory buildings are planned to connect with the solar power system. In next phase, solar power would be used for running the Factory. Rain Water Harvesting: Rain water harvesting is considered to undertake for using huge rain water in the rainy season. This water would be a valuable source of water for the Factory. Use of Treated ETP Water for Toilet Flushing, Gardening and Irrigation: Huge water is being used for flushing of the toilets and gardening in the Factory and irrigation purpose. Since significant amount of treated ETP water is being drained out, this water would be used for said purpose. Push Sensor/ Tapping System: Huge water and Electric power are being misused because of negligence and lack of awareness among the workers. Sensor system for using of the water and electricity would be introduced. Heat Recovery for the Generator (Co-Generation): Exhaust hot air from the generator would be used for co-generation with EGB (Exhaust Gas Boiler), Chillier and/or Water Heater. Use of Natural Light for the Floor: Some arrangements would be worked out to inflow the natural lights to the floors of the Factory. This would reduce considerable energy for required lighting purpose.
