At DCT we believe that Theater and Musical Theater are great art forms for everyone to explore and enjoy. Academy classes are Developmentally Age Appropriate and our Musical Theater classes are structured by Age and Experience Levels. Teen Scene classes and productions offer opportunities to focus on technique and performance.

Get ready to learn about Acting at DCT. Here’s your chance to be an amazing character in the show of your dreams. Work with a director and your class to create, rehearse, and present your one of a kind show at Centerstage!

Students at this level work with DCT Theater Professionals on Acting Techniques. Or they may explore the world of video in more specialized classes. On the last class day Family and Friends see the show or watch the movie!

MAKIN’ MOVIES $275 Wednesday 4:30-6:00 p.m. January 24 - April 11Work with DCT’s own Karl Schaeffer to Create a Movie Masterpiece!Each student will choose their character, get scripted lines, act in the Movie and help run the Video Equipment! Students receive a copy of the final Screenplay and Movie!

ACTING FOR THE STAGE $275 Thursday 4:30-6:00 p.m. January 25 - April 12Students choose a favorite character from the DCT stage. Make your character your own: How they walk, how they talk! A DCT Professional leads the class to create an original plot. Students memorize their lines and rehearse the show to present on the last day!

A great introduction to Improv! Learn techniques to create a character for any situation. Work with Theater Artists and explore fun and creative Improv Activities and get ready to present an Original Show!

Each year DCT gives teens the opportunity to audition for productions that are presented as a part of our season. These productions represent collaborations between our Academy and DCT’s professional team of Theater Artists. These unique opportunities afford students the chance to work with renowned professionals on an exciting production. Teens from our Tech Theater program can also serve as backstage crew and technicians.

IMPROV WORKSHOP WITH JEFF SWEARINGEN $150Intermediate Level for students in Grades 6 and upTuesdays and Wednesdays 6:00-7:30 p.m. January 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, and 17

Comic actor Jeff Swearingen has been performing long form improvisation for over 12 years across the United States and in other parts of the world, and now he’s sharing these skills with you.

Students with previous Improv experience will work with Jeff to explore improvising scenes by focusing on character development and the concepts of long form improvisation.

Building on the Fall Semester, Diana will continue to guide students on a technique based, process oriented class. Students will explore contemporary and classical scenes and monologues. Diana will also emphasize physical relaxation and awareness as well as vocal production for the stage. COMEDY & SKETCH WRITING AND PERFORMANCE $275Grades 7 and upThursday 5:00-6:15 p.m. January 25 - April 12Join Matt Lyle- Actor, Director, Playwright and all-around Funny Guy as he leads this exciting comedy adventure for DCT teens. Matt is a published playwright and award winning theater artist. He will use his comedy and writing experiences fresh from Chicago with Second City and City Life Supplement to guide teens as they explore the world of sketch writing. Join us in January as Matt leads your class to create and perfect your work. Then get ready to present your original comedy sketches for an invited audience. New and returning students are encouraged to join!

Students will perform songs from Broadway shows and learn musical theater choreography. The class will also learn how to read music, proper vocal technique, basic music theory and ear training, and how to ‘act a song and dance’. Students will also receive valuable information about auditioning for musicals and plays. This class will offer the opportunity for students to improve their skills at Singing and Dancing.

DCT GLEE(60 minute singing class)

All experience levels may join this fun class! DCT Glee is an exciting vocal performance class at the DCT Academy! Students will enjoy performing classic and contemporary pop, as well as musical theater songs. Skills practiced in this class include learning how to read music, singing harmony, and understanding basic vocal technique. Come and sing - with DCT Glee!
