Introduction It is a well-known fact that downtime in a data centre can cause huge business losses, and depending on the severity, could even result in total business closure. Research has proven that a large portion of data centre downtime is due to human error created during the execution of maintenance and operational processes. Even a Rated-4 data centre with poor operational and maintenance processes could easily end up performing like a Rated-1 data centre therefore putting the business at serious risk. Operational excellence will reduce the risk of downtime whilst at the same time improves the operational efficiency and effectiveness. This is achieved by aligning the valuable human capital of an organisation with its service delivery obligation in a way that creates a consistent quality service whilst meeting compliance requirements. Any organisation should benchmark their data centre for operations risk factors and opportunities for improvement. EPI offers data centre operations audit services based on its world-renowned DCOS®. DCOS® (Data Centre Operations Standard) DCOS® is aimed at providing the data centre investor/owner/operator with a progressive approach to improve data centre operations management. It provides a framework with great flexibility to adapt to the organisation’s business needs and it is designed to be very practical, focusing on tangible results. DCOS® addresses all of the 11 disciplines required to run a data centre efficiently and effectively. The standard describes an appropriate level of detail for each discipline which relates directly to measurable business results. This standard is by far the most complete data centre operations and maintenance standard available in the market today. DCOS® is written by highly experienced data centre managers and experts in the field with experience operating data centres large and small in various design and operational complexities across a variety of industries and countries around the world. DCOS® is developed following the stringent process of standards development as dictated by ANSI and ISO and has been reviewed and endorsed by over 50 leading global data centre owners/operators. DCOS® Audit Service

The data centre operator/owner can choose to be audited for all of the 11 disciplines and their integration, or choose selected disciplines which they consider the most critical for the data centre to be reviewed as standalone processes. The DCOS® audit will provide the data centre operator/owner with a clear picture on the current levels of maturity of the various processes. It will allow the data centre operator/owner to set the right expectations on its capabilities within the organisation and to its external customers. The outcome of the audit will provide the data centre operator/owner with a well-dened guide on the areas where improvement are required. This will enable the deployment of human capital where they can make the biggest impact. By focusing on the improvement of the problematic processes, it will result in immediate improvement on the data centre’s service capabilities and service levels for its customers.
