5th Annual ‘Healthy Living’ Senior Fair

Friday, October 23 @ 10:00 am to 2:00 pm In ShoppingTown Mall’s Upper Level.

The DCL will host its 5th Annual ‘Healthy Living’ Senior Fair in ShoppingTown Mall’s upper level. At 1:00pm, CNY Central’s Laura Hand, anchor of the week-end edition of Today in Central New York and the producer of “Weekend’s Best Bets,” “The Week Ahead,” and the “In Touch” events calendar and “CNY in Focus” series, will be our guest speaker. Look for the Library’s information table in the JCPenney’s Court to pick up your guide to the event.

More than 50 exhibitors from area organizations, agencies, and businesses will be on hand to

share information about their services and programs for older adults. Get free screenings for blood pressure, spine, hearing, and get a flu shot. Enjoy the easy listening sounds of the CNY Jazz Trio (10:30 am & 11:30 am) NEW! Technology experts help to answer your technology questions. DCL TechExpress hosts: Syracuse Repair Café Saturday, Sept. 12 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Specialists from the Syracuse Repair Café will fix your stuff! At Syracuse Repair Café, everything centers on making repairs. There will be various experts on hand: electrical, mechanical, sharpening, watch and clock repair, carpentry, and seamstresses. There is no charge or fee, although donations are appreciated, and we may ask that guests pay for certain parts. Toasters, lamps, clothes, bikes, toys, wobbly furniture, and crockery... anything that is broken is welcome and can more than likely be repaired. The specialists in Repair Café almost always have the know-how. STORYTIMES Baby Bop Mondays, Sept. 14—Nov. 23 @ 10:30 am Wednesdays, Sept. 9—Nov. 25 @ 10:30 am For ages birth – 24 months old This lively storytime is appropriate for babies and their caregivers. Enjoy lap and bouncing rhymes, short books, and songs. The session lasts 20-30 minutes followed by a playgroup with toys, bubbles, and board books.

Toddler Time Tuesdays, Sept. 8—Nov. 24 @ 10:30 am For ages 2 - 3 years old This fun and active storytime is for toddlers ages 2 - 3 years old and their caregivers. Enjoy stories, action rhymes, songs, and fingerplays for about 30 minutes followed by a coloring sheet or simple craft.

Preschool Storytimes Thursdays, Sept. 10—Nov. 19 @ 10:30 am For ages 3 - 5 years old Children ages 3 to 5 and their caregivers will enjoy theme-based books, flannel stories, rhymes, songs, and a craft. Toddler Dance Party Fridays at 10:30 am Sept. 11, Oct. 9, Nov. 20 & Dec. 18 For ages 18 months to 5 years old. Come shake your sillies out and dance with your friends! You’re Invited! Book Birthday Party Saturday, September 19 from 11 am to 12:30 pm Library Assistant Lauri Fortino introduces her debut children’s picture book, The Peddler’s Bed. Come hear the story (geared for ages 3 to 7), then make crafts based on the book. Decorate a pillow case, color a bed picture, or create a whim-sical tree. See a tabletop replica of the peddler’s bed, made by Joe Kolceski. And enjoy delicious refreshments, including birthday cake! Book signing follows. Copies of the book will be available for sale. Thanks to Barnes & Noble DeWitt, a percentage of sales will go to benefit the Library.

Discovery to Go is a special collec-tion of math, science, engineering and technology items that patrons can either use in the library or checkout with an adult library card. Items for checkout at DCL will include tabletop telescopes, micro-scopes, math manipulatives, rocks and minerals collections and even a human torso model. The DCL received a special New York State Legislative grant through former Assemblyman Sam Roberts office to purchase the collection and hopes to make Discovery to Go items available for checkout starting in October 2015.

shortcuts to some of the best career-related sites on the web. Find a quiet corner in the Library to work on your

resume and get started on your future!

Borrowers MUST present a valid Library card and photo ID (valid driver license, passport, or sheriff’s ID ONLY). The laptop may be used for up to 3 hours and may not leave the Library.
