US destroyer collides with Philippine-flagged vessel south of Tokyo Bayin Japan in rare incident on busy waterway.

The US navy says seven crew members are missing and at least threeinjured after a destroyer, the USS Fitzgerald, collided with ACX Crystal, aPhilippine-flagged merchant vessel off the coast of Japan.

The Japanese coastguard said the Fitzgerald was experiencing some flooding but was not indanger of sinking, while the merchant vessel was able to sail under its own power.

The coastguard said none of the 20 crew members on board the merchant vessel were injured.

Three aboard the destroyer had been medically evacuated, including the ship's commandingofficer, Cmdr Bryce Benson, who was reportedly in stable condition after being airlifted to theUS Naval Hospital in Yokosuka.

The other two injured were transferred to the hospital for lacerations and bruises, while otherinjuries were being assessed, the US navy statement said.

The Fitzgerald was operating under its own power, "although her propulsion is limited".

It was unclear how the collision south of Tokyo Bay happened.

"Once an investigation is complete then any legal issues can be addressed, " the US navy'sSeventh Fleet spokesman said.

'Grounds for fear'

The Fitzgerald and the Japanese coastguard were searching for seven missing sailors.

Speaking from Tokyo, Michael Penn, a journalist with the Shingetsu news agency, said: "Ashours and hours have gone by [and] it was in the middle of the night that they went overboard,there are strong grounds to fear for them."

The Fitzgerald suffered damage on its starboard side above and below the waterline, but thefull extent of the damage was still being determined.

"The US navy ship is an Aegis destroyer, which has one of the most sophisticated radars inexistence. So how such a ship was taken unaware and rammed by a merchant ship is verybizarre, " Penn said.

The waterways approaching Tokyo Bay are busy with commercial vessels sailing to and fromJapan’s two biggest container ports in Tokyo and Yokohama.

The USS Dewey and two navy tugboats had been dispatched to provide assistance, the USnavy said.

Japan's public broadcaster NHK showed aerial footage of the destroyer, which had a large dent

in its right, or starboard, side. Images broadcast by NHK showed it had been struck next to itsAegis radar arrays behind its vertical missile launch tubes.

In May, the US navy's USS Lake Champlain collided with a South Korean fishing vessel but bothships were able to operate under their own power.

methodically search for the missing crew members. The damaged destroyer was back at itshome port in Yokosuka Naval Base south of Tokyo by sunset Saturday, its crew lined up ondeck. The Philippine-flagged container ship was berthed at Tokyo's Oi wharf, where officialsbegan questioning crew members about the cause of the crash. After helping stabilize the USSFitzgerald, the destroyer USS Dewey joined other American and Japanese vessels and aircraftin the search for the missing sailors. At least three other Navy sailors were injured in the crash.Family members were frantically seeking news, appealing via social media for calls fromsailors aboard the ship. The U. LE MANS, France, June 17 (Reuters) - Favourites Toyota led the 24 Hoursof Le Mans sportscar race at the quarter distance on Saturday withchampions Porsche left with just one car battling it out against theJapanese manufacturer's three.

After six hours, the number seven Toyota with France's Stephane Sarrazinat the wheel was leading Porsche's number one car, driven by former

winner Andre lotterer of Germany, by 25.854 seconds.

Porsche's number two car, their only other entrant in the top LMP1 category, pitted after threeand a half hours with a front axle problem.

It remained in the garage for a long period and was 54th and 18 laps down.

Toyota have entered three cars to Porsche's two and are chasing a first victory at the SartheCircuit, after five times finishing runners-up in 18 failed attempts, to become only the secondJapanese manufacturer to win the French race.

Mazda won in 1991 on a road track where mechanical reliability is of critical importance andplenty of dangers lie in wait for drivers racing in shifts through the night and into the dawn.

This year Toyota have won the first two rounds of the FIA World Endurance Championship, inwhich Le Mans is the jewel in the crown with a crowd of around 300,000, and started on pole onSaturday after a record qualifying lap.

Ex-Formula One driver Kamui Kobayashi, who shares the number seven car with Britain's MikeConway and Sarrazin, had lapped the circuit with the fastest time ever - an average speed of251.882kph - on Thursday.

Toyota came agonisingly close to winning last year but a last lap power failure on KazukiNakajima's leading car handed the victory to Porsche. Nakajima is back at Le Mans in the

team's number eight car.

With once-dominant Audi pulling out after last year's race, the 2017 edition is a straightforwardbattle between the two carmakers.

The only other LMP1 entrant is the number four ByKolles Racing ENSO and that retired in thesecond hour after Britain's Oliver Webb made contact with the wall on the opening lap.

Brazilian Rubens Barrichello, who holds the record for most Formula One races started, madehis debut in a Racing Team Nederland Dallara LMP2 car.

In the process, the 45-year-old became the 40th driver to compete at Le Mans, the Indianapolis500 and Monaco Grand Prix.

Two stars were unveiled at theopening of the new GrangePark, just established in thegrounds of BamberGascoigne’s recently inheritedhistoric house, West HorsleyPlace in Surrey: the Maltesetenor Joseph Calleja, singinghis first ever Cavaradossi inTosca, and Grange Park founder Wasfi Kani’s stunning new opera house.

The 750-seat theatre – modelled on La Scala, Milan, with a horseshoe shape and four tiers – isa near miracle, having been constructed by Wasfi, her architect Anthony Smith and a dedicatedteam of builders in less than a year.

It has excellent acoustics and provides a fitting setting for Calleja’s honeyed tones as a morethan usually interesting Cavaradossi. Calleja’s Cavaradossi is not just an ardent lover, singinghis two showpiece arias most beautifully; he also makes use of his rugby prop-forward build tostand up valiantly against the murderous Scarpia and his henchmen.

Roland Wood doesn’ t have the vocal rasp of an ideal Scarpia but his is a hardworked andultimately winning interpretation, fully deserving the pantomime-villain boos he secured, to hisobvious pleasure, at the end on opening night.

As for Ekaterina Metlova’s Tosca, least said, soonest mended. She just lacks the physical andvocal allure to portray credibly a heroine who was supposedly the toast of Rome. She isn’ t afitting partner for Calleja. But then who is?

Gianluca Marciano conducts Puccini’s music well, and the sound of his orchestra emergeswith great clarity from the pit – another tick in the box for the new theatre.

Director Peter Relton presents the drama vividly, and traditionally, in the best sense of the word.I am sure Puccini, a consummate man of the theatre, would have approved.

Nature abhors a vacuum, and into the space left by Wasfi Kani a new Grange Festival hasemerged under the leadership of the distinguished countertenor Michael Chance.

The old theatre has been refurbished, and the grounds cleared of a lot of scrub, revealing thetranquil lake. The in-house dining facilities have been spruced up and spacious new picnictents have been erected.

What could possibly go wrong? Well, sadly, the festival’s Carmen, the most perverseproduction of Bizet’s masterpiece I have ever seen.

Director Annabel Arden has cut out most of the recitatives (sung or spoken dialogue) . Goodnews. The bad news is that she has replaced them with two so-called ‘comperes’ , an Africancouple who wander around chuntering in a way that amused them far more than it did me.

Why? I am sure Arden thinks she is making some profound point here, but to me it’s just plainirritating. She would have been better employed teaching the Israeli mezzo Na’ ama Goldmanto be a pulsating Carmen, the femme fatale from the fag factory.

Sadly, poor Goldman is as dull as ditchwater. Perversely, Shelley Jackson’s Micaëla,supposedly the innocent girl next door, is all over Don José like a rash in Act I, showing all thesexiness Carmen so manifestly lacks.

Far better was the John Wilson Orchestra’s Richard Rodgers concert, offering a winningcombination of the smoky cabaret songs Rodgers composed to the subtle lyrics of Lorenz Hartand the big-boned showstoppers he wrote for the string of Broadway hits he had with Oscar

Hammerstein.

There were substantial extracts from Oklahoma! (which the JWO are doing complete at theProms, live on BBC television on August 11) , South Pacific, Carousel and The Sound Of Music .

Kim Criswell was especially dazzling in Lorenz Hart’s Keeping My Love Alive, about bumping offirritating husbands. And a new star is born: the young Australian baritone Morgan Pearse, whowill appear next as Sid in Britten’s Albert Herring at the Buxton Festival.

Two young men were killed ina horrific car crash in NewYork City that left the vehiclesplit in half.

James Montague, 21, andBlake Gary, 22, died after aToyota Corolla slammed into afire hydrant in Hollis, Queens,and broke in two upon impact,with the front half flying 50 feetinto a neighbor's yard.

A third person in the car fledthe scene on foot, althoughpolice said it remains unclearwhether he was the one driving at the time of the crash, police said.

He has been taken into custody, where he is being questioned by the police, Officer TiffanyPhillips told the Dailymail.com.

Witness Titus Francis told NBC: 'I heard the squeal of tires and then I just heard a loud boom.'

The car careened down 100th Avenue near 205th Place around 1am on Saturday when itslammed into a fire hydrant, and split in two upon impact.

Gary was pronounced dead at the scene, while Montague died in the hospital.

The front half of the car flew 50 feet, knocked down part of a chain link fence across the street,and ended up in Sadie Yarbrough's yard.

She told the New York Post: 'When I came to the door, I saw half of a car in my yard. Had I nothad the fence up, they would’ ve come directly to my house.'

Gary's younger sister paid tribute to the 22-year-old, saying: 'He always put others put beforehimself. and he valued his family a lot.'

Montague's brother Keith Ford remembered Montague as 'the best brother you could ask for',and said the 21-year-old hoped to attend college and pursue a future in forensics.

Most people assumed the second season would be 25episodes like the first season. At the same time, based on the story arcs of the Shingeki noJyojin manga, it actually made sense to produce a single cour season while the next majormanga story arc would seem to require at least 20 to 25 episodes to give the story justice.Unfortunately, studio WiT has yet to confirm the number of episodes for Attack On Titan Season3.

We also do not know the exact Shingeki no Kyojin Season 3 release date yet. What we do knowis the year. The official announcement was made from the Attack On Titan Twitter account andthe included message was very brief and to the point.
