  • Attention College Students! We know that food costs are up and that it is expensive going to the grocery store. Food Stamps can be a great way to help pay for groceries, but there are some special rules about whether or not students can receive them.

To be eligible, college students must meet at least one of the following criteria:

Employed and paid 20 hours a week or more, or earning the equivalent of 20 hours at

    the minimum wage

Be physically or mentally unable to work

Receiving federal or state work-study money

Be under 18 or over 49 years old

Responsible for the physical care of a dependent household member under age 6, or

under the age of 12 when adequate childcare is not available

Be a full-time student who is a single parent with responsibility for a child under age 12

Receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (government cash assistance) or Supplemental Social Security

Also, you cannot get food stamps, if you have a meal plan that provides more than 50% of your meals.
