‘16-’17 Job Growth for Ohio MSAsThe Brookings Institute found Dayton to be one of only 11 of the top 100 metro areas achieving “inclusive growth.”• Inclusive growth improves the employment rate, median earnings,

and relative poverty• Metro areas that had inclusive growth:

• Added jobs in high-skilled traded sectors like advanced business and professional services, information, and manufacturing at a rate faster than the nation.

• Tended to add jobs in lower-paid types of work within those traded sectors; with hiring skewed in favor of middle- or low-skilled workers.

• Balanced “traded-sector” job growth with growth of good-paying jobs for middle-skilled workers in non-traded sectors like construction, logistics, and health care.

• Relied on traded and secondary sectors to fuel modest growth of typically local-serving sectors like hospitality and retail that expand employment opportunities for less-skilled workers.

Gem City Rising

“In five years, I guarantee, the Dayton Arcade will be a phenomenal success and an incalculable boost to a city that has endured so much this year and in years past.”

−Bruce Katz, co-author of The New Localism: How Cities Can Thrive in the Age of Populism and The Metropolitan Revolution: How Cities and Metros are Fixing Our

Broken Politics and Fragile Economy

“Over the past generation Dayton has often been the dateline for stories about things older Rust Belt communities have lost…The closings weren’t the end—for the physical structures that GM and NCR has abandoned, or for the town.

−James Fallows, The Atlantic staff writer and author of Our Towns: A 100,000-Mile Journey Into the Heart of America with his wife, Deborah Fallows

The Future of Aerospace in Dayton“Air power starts with an idea. An idea that you then take and turn into reality. You figure out how to buy it, how to build it, how to field it, how to maintain it, how to improve it, and eventually you figure out how to replace it. Our Air Force simply does not fly, fight and win without you. So if you don’t remember anything else I say today, remember this:

“Air power. Its DNA comes from Dayton.”

-Gen Mark Welsh, Retired Air Force Chief of StaffPhoto credit: Chad Bellay, Edwards F-35 Integrated Test Force

New Mission to Bring 400+ jobs to Wright-Patt!"Wright-Patterson Air Force Base has the trained acquisition professionals with the right fighter aircraft experience to run this organization for DOD’s Joint Program Office. We expect this experience to help us drive down F-35 sustainment costs as we build a more lethal and ready Air Force.”

–Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson. "This is an important step in driving sustainment costs down as more of our allies and partners join us. I continue to hear from my fellow air chiefs that they are not integrating the F-35 into their Air Force. They are integrating their Air Force into the F-35! Product support integration ensures this quarterback of the joint team has everything in the locker room needed to hit the field and win.“

–Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David L. Goldfein.
