Defini&on of Smart Community and Smart Grid
2
SMART Society
Smart Community is speeded into whole society.
SMART Community or City
Combination of “Smart supplier” and “Smart customer” in community.
SMART Supplier (Grid)
SMART Users
How to make Grid Smart ? 3
In future customers on power grid will get their own generators such as roof top PV. SO, They must also introduce intelligence EMS. Utilities must invest local intelligence EMS for communicate with those customer side EMSs.
Past demonstra&on regarding integra&on of RE (NEDO 2002-‐2010)

Clustered PV in Ota
Micro grid demonstrations
Mega solar with battery and smart inverter
Battery storage fro RE
Digester recovery Micro-grid
Role of METI and NEDO in Smart Community Development (ATer 2010)

• Independent opera&on of Building
• Absorbing PV fluctua&on by building equipment
BEMS
BEMS Co-operation of EMS
Conclusion
• NEDO smart grid technology is based on RE integra&on.
• Especially, Japan has long experience on Micro grid technology.
• We expect that future smart distribu&on system become to Micro grid like opera&on.
• In such future, babery technology must be important element with smart DMS.
