About Our Trip To PERU...

Day 1: Friday, April 4: USA/Lima In Flight

Day 3: Sunday, April 6: LIMA Buffet breakfast at hotel

Our journey continues visiting Lima’s Colonial sites: Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral and the San Francisco Convent. First, you will stop off at the Plaza de Armas (Main Square). You will get a chance to explore the square by foot and admire the exteriors of the Palacio de Gobierno (Government Palace), the Cathedral of Lima, and the Mu-nicipalidad (City Hall), all examples of Lima’s still-present colonial architectural opu-lence. We’ll visit the San Francisco Convent, built in the 17th century, and its ―Catacombs‖ ancient underground cemetery of Lima.

Lunch will be at restaurant El Mercado, known to have the best Ceviches and Peruvi-an desserts. After lunch we proceed to visit the Larco Herrera Museum which contains an extraordinary collection of pre-Colombian Peruvian art and includes an exquisite Collection of Peruvian Gold and Silver, and the Pre-Hispanic Erotic Art Salon. It also has different galleries for mummies, textiles, precious stones, metals and pottery.

Before dinner, we will make a stop at the Barbosa Stern private collection: represent-ing some one of the finest examples of colonial culture in Latin America and the Peru-vian School. It blends two centuries of cultural traditions: Indian and European art un-der the Peruvian viceroyalty. Since 1966, Eduardo Barbosa and his wife Silvia Stern have collected an impressive compilation of Spanish colonial art. Mr. and Mrs. Bar-bosa-Stern´s sons inherited the love for colonial art, and are now in charge of preserv-ing their family´s private collection. Our visit will be guided by Aldo, the youngest son, who conveys not only his vast knowledge of the collection, but also his passion for colonial art.

Dinner will be at Astrid & Gaston; Gastón Acurio has a fine-dining empire that now stretches from Madrid to New York, but this Miraflores original remains his signature eatery, epitomising not just his Peruvian- Mediterranean style but also his own charac-ter.

Day 5: Tuesday, April 8: LIMA/CUSCO Buffet breakfast at hotel

Visit the Koricancha, or Temple of the Sun, and the Cathedral from the early 17th century, a fine example of colonial baroque art. Visit to San Blas, a popular sector known as the artisans quarter, with steep streets and old Inca buildings and Spanish mansions. The San Blas church located on the street of the same name, and is the oldest parish in Cusco, built in 1563. Its most distinctive fea-ture is the impressive pulpit carved out of a single piece of wood on which creator, Diego Tomas de Cerda, worked for 25 years. Very light dinner recommended.
