Reflection….

• Prompt: List one thing you learned, one thing you found interesting, and one thing you would like to learn more about/investigate further.

• Bodily Fluids• pH /Determining unknown acidity and

alkalinity.• Blood Typing (A, B, AB, O)

Agglutination

• A process that occurs within blood cells when the incorrect blood type is given to a patient.

Simply referred to as clumping

Is it possible….

• What is the meaning of the term ?

• Bioluminescence is the production and emission of light by a living organism.

• What organisms come to mind when you hear this term?

Page 7: Day 4: Glow Sticks Curiosity Zone The Magical World of Biology and Chemistry Dorcas Green, Arielle Darden (Today’s Reflection) Arielle Darden, Instructor

How does it occur?

• One way is by the chemical reaction pigment luciferin. An enzyme known as luciferase oxidizes the pigment causing the glow effect. Show students the chemical reaction.

Continued..

• Another way is through genetic engineering with a protein known as GFP, Green Fluorescent Protein.

GFP?

• Green Fluorescent Protein:-It was first isolated from a jellyfish Aequorea victoria.-It fluoresces when exposed to ultraviolet light
