Day 1: Nairobi, Kenya Our first morning in Nairobi we are introduced to some special work being done to support Africa’s orphaned wildlife at Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage whilst viewing the baby elephant feed and play session and the rhino feed. We also visit the Giraffe Park where we can hand feed graceful giraffe in the beautiful grounds. For those that want to get a little closer you might even be in for a giraffe kiss! We have our departure meeting and enjoy our first evening meal together. We have an early start tomorrow so get to bed early tonight. Distance: 0 kms Est. Arriving around lunchtime, we have the afternoon for game drives through the park, to marvel at the landscape and wildlife that make the Mara so famous. This park boasts all members of the ‘Big Five’, being famous for its lion population in particular. Cheetah and leopard are also found here, Masai and common giraffe, as well as hyena, hartebeest, impala and topi, hippo, elephant and of course in season the migration herds of wildebeest, zebra and Thomson gazelle. Distance: 300 kms Est. Drive Time: 6 hours to the park gate, game drive through the afternoon Meals: X1 Breakfast, X1 Dinner Included wildlife activity: Afternoon game drive, Masai Mara Day 3: Masai Mara to Naivasha We game drive through the Masai Mara during the morning, or alternatively you can take an early morning balloon safari. Traditional Maasai live in this region and we visit a village whilst here. We leave the park by lunchtime to travel through to Lake Naivasha. Distance: 258 kms Est. Naivasha is a free water lake and plays host to over 400 species of bird. It is also the primary source of all fresh water flowers sold in the UK. From here we are able to cycle in the morning to Hells Gate National Park with its extraordinary volcanic scenery. In the afternoon we can hike to the Crater Lake or take a walking safari on Crescent Island to stretch our legs and get up close to Africa’s wildlife including giraffe, zebra and gazelle. Alternatively you can head out on a hippo cruise and experience the lake and its wildlife from a different perspective. Or go for high tea at Elsamere, home to Joy Adamson, and now a conservation centre. Joy and George’s time with Elsa the lion was depicted in the well known movie ‘Born Free’. Enjoy afternoon tea whilst the black and white colobus monkeys feed nearby on the lawns. Distance: 0 kms Est. Drive Time: 1.5 hours Meals: X1 Breakfast, X1 Dinner Day 6: Nakuru Lake Nakuru National Park is our next park to enjoy game drives by the lake amongst acacia and euphorbia forest. The park’s alkaline lake supports hippo and migratory waterfowl and waders, and particularly the beautiful greater and lesser flamingo. The park is also a sanctuary for black and white rhino, Rothschild’s giraffe as well as defassa waterbuck, reedbucks, zebra, warthog and Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelle. Lion can be seen and if we are fortunate, we might spy a leopard, lounging in a tree. From Baboon Cliffs we can enjoy the gorgeous views across the lake. Distance: 0 kms Est. Day 7: Nakuru to EldoretWe are back on the road today, travelling into the mountainsto Eldoret and a stay at Raj’s, reputedly ‘the coolest bar inAfrica’.

Day 8: Eldoret to Jinja, UgandaCrossing the border we enter Uganda, famed for itswelcoming, vibrant and relaxed atmosphere to camp by theWhite Nile downstream from the Source of the Nile. Afterseveral days on the road we enjoy a few days break here inJinja – Uganda’s adrenaline capital.

Days 9 – 11: JinjaTake the time to explore this lush tropical region by quad bike,cycling or on horseback. Head out whitewater rafting on grade5 rapids on the world’s longest river. Bungee jump with a finaldunk in the river at the conclusion! There is also time to helpin a local school, sunset cruise, village walk, kayaking andcanoeing.

Day 13: Entebbe to KalinzuWe leave the shores of Lake Victoria heading towards westernUganda. Test your bargaining skills on the drive west toMbarara visiting local craft markets on the way including drumstalls. We stop at the Equator for a photo shoot and waterdemonstration to see the effects of the Earth’s magneticfield.

Tonight our camp is near the hillside forest of Kalinzu on theedge of the Rift Valley and Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Day 14: Kalinzu to Queen Elizabeth National ParkThis morning we have the opportunity to trek a habituatedchimpanzee group in Kalinzu Forest close to Queen ElizabethNational Park here in the Albertine Rift.

From here it is a relatively easy journey to reach QueenElizabeth National Park for game drives and a cruise on the40 metre long Kazinga Channel. The cruise is a very specialway to view wildlife, as hippo lounge and elephant play in and

by the waterways. The park also has lion, leopard and jackal,Uganda kob, buffalo and waterbuck amongst other animals ofthe plain, as well as much superb bird life such as Africanskimmers, saddlebills, African fish eagle, goliath heron andyellow-billed storks.There are around 600 species of bird inthis park.

Day 16: Kabale to KisoroToday is a short drive through to the border town of Kisorowhere we stay for a couple of nights in a local guest house.We are now close to the home of the critically endangeredmountain gorillas and the Virungas. Apart from gorilla trekkingwhile we are here you can also take a village tour to visit theBatwa or Pygmy tribal peoples, canoe in Lake Mutande andvisit a local orphanage.

Day 17: KisoroThe trek to view the mountain gorillas brings you face to facewith this critically endangered species in its natural habitat.Under the charge of the older dominant male, the silverback,who can weigh up to 350 pounds, the families eat, sleep,groom and play the day away in lush jungle, their environment,described as a giant ‘salad bowl’. They spend the day foragingfor bamboo, wild celery, nettles and other vegetation. Thegorilla trek is a once in a lifetime opportunity to view thisgentle and intelligent primate.

Day 18: Kisoro to Musanze, RwandaOn entering Rwanda “the land of a thousand hills” we set upcamp in Musanze to enjoy community based projects includingbasket making and weaving, bee keeping and banana beermaking. This camp is near the Parc National des Volcanswhere Dian Fossey worked with the gorillas.

Day 19: Musanze to KigaliOur travels today bring us to Kigali, the modern capital ofRwanda.

In the afternoon we stop over to visit the deeply movingGenocide Memorial that honours those slaughtered in the1994 genocide. There are an estimated 250,000 people thatare buried here, victims of the 100 day genocide.

Days 20: Kigali to Nyakhanazi, TanzaniaLeaving “the land of a thousand hills” today we have anotherborder crossing to travel through to our camp in a small ruralhotel in Nyakhanazi, Tanzania.

It is an early rise and on our arrival the local children loveshowing us around the village, and we can enjoy a game offootball with the locals. Tonight we enjoy a traditional meal.

Day 21: Nyakhanazi to Mwanza, Lake VictoriaWe again are travelling away from the main roads, and off thebeaten track.

We continue through to southern Lake Victoria taking a ferrycrossing to reach the sprawling city of Mwanza where wecamp by Lake Victoria.

Day 22: Mwanza to the GrumetiThe Grumeti is our destination today. This is part of the Maraand Serengeti eco-system. Particularly between June and Julythe annual great migration passes through the Grumeti andhundreds of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle brave the GrumetiRiver.

Entering by early afternoon we camp in the bush. Those whowish have the option to head out on evening game drives.

Day 23: The Grumeti to central Serengeti CampThose who want rise early with the dawn chorus, for guidedgame walks in the African bush through the Grumeti.

By lunchtime we are crossing into the world famous SerengetiNational Park at Ikoma Gate.

The vast Serengeti plains are home to an immense array ofwildlife - lion, cheetah, hyena, elephant, buffalo, hippo, topiand giraffe to name just a few, the vast savannah ecosystemcombining with The Mara as the stage for the migration of thebig herds of wildebeest, zebra and Thomson’s gazelle. Themigration is relatively predictable with the herds usuallystarting to arrive back in the Serengeti during November,staying around regularly through to sometime in July/Augustdriven by the constant need for fresh grazing and quality watersupplies.

Day 24: Central Serengeti to Simba, NgorongoroCrater AreaSerengeti comprises 1.5 million hectares of savanna andwoodlands, and is contiguous with the NgorongoroConservation Area which is 528,000 ha.

It’s an early start to head out on morning game drives in hopeof more animal sightings for all to take advantage of the timewe have here.

On leaving the Serengeti around lunchtime we visit a Maasaiboma and road conditions pending we can also stop at theOlduvai Gorge Museum.

We then drive to the Ngorongoro Crater rim to set up campand relax around the campfire at Simba campsite.

Day 25: Ngorongoro Crater to ArushaSpecially designed land cruisers collect us after breakfast andwe head off with local guides for game drives in the world’slargest extinct volcano, 18 kilometres across and 2,000 feetdeep - the Ngorongoro Crater. This is Tanzania’s most visitedgame reserve with a range of different habitats from LakeMagadi, its rim tinged pink by flamingo, to hippo pools, to theLerai Forest. Across open plains, abundant game roam theCrater floor and on hilly outcrops lions peruse the scene onlook out for their next meal.

Following lunch we leave the campsite area. Passingtraditional Maasai herdsmen tending their cattle, we stop overat Mto Wa Mbu to mingle with the locals and haggle forcurios.

Arriving into camp in Arusha, we enjoy a group barbecue andreflect on the past four days - all we have seen andexperienced in the Tanzanian parks.

Days 26 – 27: Arusha to Dar es SalaamLeaving Arusha, with a little good fortune we might spy themajestic Kilimanjaro on our journey south to Dar es Salaamon the Indian Ocean coast. Here we camp for the night,enjoying a seafood barbecue this evening

It is from Dar there is the final option of a beach break onZanzibar Island. For the last five days catch the ferry to theexotic Spice Island of Zanzibar for time on the sunbleachedbeaches of Zanzibar. We have a standard four night B&Baccommodation package on the island which most select,whilst we can arrange a variety of arrangements depending onthe style of accommodation you might like and your choice ofactivities for your time on the island

With the sounds of African jazz, blues andisland reggae, we enjoy fresh seafood and dishes cooked withhome-grown spices. A spice tour introduces us to thefascinating history of the island during our first day.

Days 29 - 31: Kendwa Beach, Zanzibar IslandWe spend the last three nights in beach accommodation withtime to relax on miles upon miles of white beaches, enjoyvolleyball on the sand and swimming in azure blue waters offKendwa Beach. Zanzibar is the perfect island paradise tofinish your safari!

Day 32: Zanzibar Island to Dar es SalaamWe end the trip today, with the crew heading back to Dar fromStone Town on the lunchtime ferry. Extra accommodation canbe arranged for those who would like more time on ZanzibarIsland.

Excursions on the island: Zanzibar offers some of the bestdiving and snorkelling in Africa. Amongst colourful corals, avariety of fish species can be seen as well as dolphins, hugerays and hammerhead sharks. Different snorkeling and divingtrips can be booked including to Prison Island with its giantAldabra tortoises, or to Mnemba Atoll. Scuba diving and

snorkeling can be arranged from the dive centre near ourbeach accommodation as well as fishing trips.

Apart from water sports, city tours around Stone Town, andexcursions to Jozani Forest to see the indigenous red colobusmonkeys, as well as a turtle sanctuary can be arranged. The island also has great kite surfing, and some superbrestaurants and markets. Zanzibar is a perfect destination tofinish your adventure trip.
