– View Video– Read Dawson Creek Daily News • Registration of apprentices – high
school transcripts, log books – more formal processes
• Continued investment in high schools and dual credit programs
• Out of school for a while – need to get them ready
• 15 – 25 year old – skills needed, re: math, more approachable people, testing help
• Assessment tools important (eg ITA Essential Skills)
• Recognition of prior learning (eg how Manitoba does)
• Completion rates – other ways to measure success
• Hand skills training needed• Pre-requisite structure barrier to entry• Pre-apprenticeship – introduction to
trades (trial trades, student loans)• Geography is a barrier and need more
funding for satellites• Recognizing truck driving as trade
with training and higher standards• IP exam results – faster than 4 to 5
week results• Having to move around to go to the
job• Keep foundation funding• Continuation rate low – need
improvements• Distance learning (eg how Alberta
does)• Challenge route mentoring• Simplify the system 9
