For almost three DeCaDes Dawn Farm has CareD For men anD women with aDDiCtions. But in reCent years—as we haVe aDDeD new proGrams anD sites—supporters haVe asKeD us, “why has Dawn Farm Grown?” it’s a Fair question. until 1994, Dawn Farm was a small proGram treatinG37 younG men anD women. 9 to 12 months lonG, we helpeD a relatiVely small numBer oF people. But when washtenaw County asKeD us to expanD, or see important Community proGrams Disappear, we saiD yes. with a Detox, women’s transitional proGram anD jail outreaCh, Dawn Farm DouBleD in size. But 1998 ChanGeD us in a more important way with the openinG oF our First transitional house—Chapin street. we openeD it BeCause we were alarmeD By the many people we treateD who were homeless, anD whom we oFten enDeD up releasinG From Detox BaCK to the streets. it maDe no sense. with Chapin street, we saw that in aDDition to treat- ment, some aDDiCts anD alCoholiCs in this Community CoulD Get out oF the Culture oF aDDiCtion with thinGs as simple as a supportiVe plaCe to liVe, a joB anD the inCentiVe to join the reCoVerinG Community. it worKeD. it worKeD so well we openeD another house,anD another—so that toDay, in aDDition to more than 60 treat-ment BeDs, we oFFer another 60 transitional housinGBeDs. why DiD we Grow? BeCause our mission is to remoVe Barriers—anD homelessness amonG aDDiCteD people is ahuGe one. why DiD we Grow?
