Boy, it sure is good to be back in America. 1could hardly wait for the plane to leave Zambia;but I am ready to go back now. We were glad to seeall of our relatives and friends, especially inNorth Carolina.

I liked the schooling better In Zambia than I dohere. Over there we have only five hours of school, with swimming lessons twice a week. It sure isrefreshing to dive into a swimming pool after school.Of course, it wouldn't be too refreshing to swim inthe middle of January here though.

My birthday is this month and I am getting prettyexcited, t will be 13 years old!

How quickly the days pass! The first six monthsof our furlough are gone and it seems like yesterdaythat we left Ndola, Zambia. It has been a rewardingtime of seeing family and friends again, and telling ofour work in Africa. Our hearts are thrilled as we seeChristians come and tell us, "We prayed for you eachday;" or, "How we look forward to your newsletter."We have seen once again how interested Christiansare in spreading the Gospel and in sharing in theLord's work.

It is exciting to be back in the States and to go tothe grocery store and look at all the varieties. It'shard not to buy ten jars of mustard or a dozen cansof cherries, thinking that nextweek It will all be gone!I spent 15 minutes one week trying to decide whichkind of dishwashing liquid to buy.

Jim and Cindy are enjoying the new life here to^j^it snowed the first time a' few days ago and they wereally thrilled, even though it was just a few flakesand didn't last. And then the other day I knew wewere really home when Cindy asked one of her friendsif she were a Democrat or a Republican!

We are all looking forward to visiting with thoseof you we haven't seen yet and to traveling with Dean some. This is limited due to the children's schooling, but we have been able to do some and will be able to do more. I hope to meet every one of you before theyear is gone, and share in the wonderful message Christ commissioned us to carry . . . "Go ye . . . andteach . . . and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world." (Matt. 28:19-20).

m QliA4At:As you read this letter we ore on our way back to Zambia and the

work to which God has called us. Over the past several weeks ouranticipation for the return has mounted and we are thankful that Godhas blessed in such a wonderful way, so our desire for evangelizing inZambia con be realized.

One of the most frequent questions we've been asked while in theStates is, 'Are you enjoying your vacation?" Our answer has alwaysbeen 'Yes we are'. However, it has been a very busy "vacation".During our year in the States we have been in 17 revivals, numerousMission Rallies and single day speaking engagements and two conven*tions. Also, during that time Judy and I have both undergone majorsurgery. We praise God for speedy recoveries and His rich blessingswhich have mode all these rewarding experiences with His peoplepossible. We want to THANK EVERYONE who shared in making ourfurlough a year to long remember.

In a recent letter from one of the Zambian Christians, in the Lubuto congregation, he said,"All the Churches of Christ in Zambia send their best wishes and prayers for the Christians inAmerica". As these Chrt stians in Zambi a, though young in the faith, pray for you, will you pi easepray for them that God may bless them with many victories in Christ.

As we return to Zambia we are extremely happy for the assurance that you dear Christians willbe continually sharing in the work through your prayers and support. Each day we thank God foryou and your concern for world evangelism.

PRAYER PARTNERSDuring our first term in Zambia, aswell

as throughout our Christian lives, we haveseen and experienced the blessings of prayerand the need for active communications withGod, God has said in His Word, "Ask and yeshall receive." We must first present our need, and God will supply the answer. Because of.^^this, we have asked a couple from each of oursupporting congregations to serve as ourprayer partners. Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt Johnsonhove volunteered to act as co-ordinators forour prayer partner program. Hoyt is the ministerof the First Chruch of Christ in High Point,N. C.

When we have an urgent prayer need on thefield, we will immediately contact Bro. Hoytwho will in turn write to each of our prayerpartners. The "prayer partners will then beginpraying about the need and will present it totheir respective congregations, asking them topray also. When God has answered the petitions in whatever way He sees best for oursituation, we will write again to let the peopleknow the prayers have been asnwered.

We thank God for those who are willing toserve in this capacity, and we svould like toask you and your congregation to respond ^in Prayer as the requests are made known bythe prayer partners. We know that your life willbe blessed as you become more involved inworld-evangelism through prayer.

%ea/i ^nieHcii m QknUt:We arrived in Zambia at Lusaka International Airport at

4:40 p.m. August 19 and were met with a warm welcome by theLeroy Randalls and Don Mechems. During the four hour layoverbefore flying on to Ndola we were taken to the Mechem's homefor supper and a visit to catch up on the latest happenings inZambia. We then flew on to Ndola, arriving at 9:40 p.m. to bemet by the Bill Brants. They had moved all our belongings outof storage and into our house, put sheets on the beds andbought a two-day supply of groceries. Words could never expressour appreciation for this act ofkindness which made it possibleto stay in our own home on the first night back.

The first two days after we arrived there was an almost > W|Jyconstant stream of Zambian Christians coming to the house togreet us, welcome us back and ask questions about America. We were enthusiastically welcomed by the different congrega- Dean and Patrick Sisalations as we visited them and we are very pleased with the spiritual growth and strength that is seen.

We have finally finished unpacking the things we had stored and have quickly adjusted to not living outof a suitcase!! We are now anxiously awaiting our crate with the things we shipped from the States.

As we search for ways to express our appreciation for your prayers and support nothing seems to conveythe message better than the two familiar words "Thank You."

May the Mercy of our God, the Love of Jesus and the guidance of the Holy Spirit be yours always.Yours for Jesus in Zambia,Dean

    Larry and Judy Niemcyer

Larry and Judy Niemeyer first gave themselvesto service for Christ in Africa in 1967 when theybegan a two-year term in Rhodesia. Previous to thiscommitment, Larry had received a B.A. from PacificChristian College in Long Beach, California, andJudy had completed three years there. Larry continued a year of studies beyond the B.A. to furtherprepare him for the labor in Rhodesia. He wasordained in 1964 and served two congregations asassociate minister before going to the field. Judyserved a summer internship in southern Mexico withthe Otomi Indians which strengthened her missiondesire and further prepared her for the work in Africa.

During their two years in Rhodesia Larry andJudy maintained three churches and started threemore. Judy taught several women how to read, becameconversational in the language and taught severalBible classes. Larry had a preacher training programand they witnessed about 250 conversions duringtheir two-year term.

Since returning to the States in 1969 both Larryand Judy have furthered their education in the fieldof Anthropology and World Missions and are nowpreparing to come to Zambia to enter the unevan-gelized Northern Province. The Lord willing, theyplan to be in Zambia by January 1972. We ask yourprayers for this dedicated young couple as theyenter this field of service. Kenneth and Wilma Hayes of Jim's MotorcycleSales in Johnson City, Tennessee sent a Honda 90"Trail BIke to'Zambia to be used by Charles Delaneyand us in the work of evangelism. As you may remember a similar cycle was used extensively (almostworn out) during our first term to provide inexpensive transportation into areas too difficult to reachby car. This new cycle will certainly be a blessingin the work and we express our THANKS to thesefine Christian people who made it possible.

  • News Of The Churches

The Lubuto Church has not shown a tremendousincrease in attendance during the year we were inthe States, but the congregation shows great spiritual growth and has done a fine job of carrying on itsown activities, in the neat future the congregationis facing the loss of one of the strong elders whowill be moving to the neighboring country of Malawi. This loss will be greatly felt, but we are confidentGod will raise up others in Mis place.

We are sorry to report that some of the Chlfubucongregation fell away and caused the work there to

^^ase. However, there is a bright side to this also,-ome of the ones who were new converts there when

we left were among the first to greet us when wereturned. They told us of how they were let down bythe former leaders, but how they had tried to remainfaithful to the Lord. These and others from theChlfubu work have now joined with the KawamaChurch nearby.

Due to the fact that the Deianeys are now onfurlough we will be lending assistance and leadershiptraining to the Kawama and Chiwala congregationswith which they worked. Both of these congregations

"Tiave their own buildings and are experiencinggrowth both numerically and spiritually. Pleasecontinue to pray for these three congregations inNdola and we will try to keep you informed abouttheir activities and progress.

A number of new opportunities are before us andwe will report on these as they unfold.

We visited the Italian church in Giampino, just outside Rome, on Sundaymorning and received many blessings from sharing with these Christian brothers and sisters. Although wedidn't understand much of what was being said the genuine love and concern these Christians have forspreading the Gospel was heartwarming. the Lubuto Church who had gone with me, I wentto visit Chief Nkambo to secure permission to Miengwe villagers in front of farm shed ai their firstwork in his area. It was a very formal meeting, Sunday service.with the Chief's messengers placing chairs in a circle under a large tree and then placing his easy chair inthe center. When everyone was seated I explained our purpose for being there and the position of the church. The Chief then asked the men from Miengwe about their desire to have a church In their village, which theystated with eagerness. The Chief Nkambo asked Goodson to tell him all about the church of Christ. I wasvery proud of the excellent way in which Goodson Witnessed for his faith and the church and when he finished speaking the Chief said, "I do not know how I can refuse. Go to Miengwe village and organize the people in the church. You have my permission for the meetings." We began the following Friday night showingfilmstrips and teaching at Miengwe. At the first meeting there were about 65 people present, some of whomwalked as far as three miles. We continue meeting every Friday night and now have services there each Sunday morning also. Please pray for this new work and for us that we may have the time and energy to takeadvantage of other equally ripe opportunities.

BUILDING is now going on at our house. In JanuaryMrs. Kay Watts will be arriving in Ndola to helpwith the work. Since housing is so difficult to findand rent so terribly unreasonable, (from $150 to $250a month for an apartment) we are now in the processof constructing an addition of two rooms and a bathto out house, which will serve as an apartment inwhich Kay will live. In order to save on the costDean is supervising the construction as well asdolngmuch of the work.

  • ^ We had our Leadershjp Corifererice afew weeks ago atthey consider themselves leaders or if they are just ready

be the Lord's house every opportunity. I'm

tbe leaders or men, the women say, "And Mrs.

both teaching four or five classes each week, and more and

God's Word says. How can we teach our children and ourCooking inshima at Conference. children's children if we ourselves are ignorant of the

Bible?" Many of these people cannot read or write, in fact very few of the women can read, and very fewspeak any English. So the teaching is slow, and very repetitious, because they must learn by memory whe^they can't read. It'sal I very well to say that you will send some money for Bibles, but these people need moi.than Bibles, they need Bible teachers! Someone to sit down with them and read and explain the Scriptures.

When we first returned in August, 1 prayed that God would use me in an even greater way this term, and Hehas answered this prayer through these people. Now my prayer is for strength for the task He's given and formote workers in these fields. We look forward to the time when we have help here because there are manyplaces yet untouched that need the Gospel. How often the words come back to us, "the harvest truly isplentiful, but the laborers are few, pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest that he will send forth laborersinto his harvest." This is our prayer; is it yours? But remember berore you pray, that you must be willing toreceive the answer because you may be the laborer God will send. Hi Denny.
