    Long ago, in the d ays of King Saul of Isr ael, a boynamed David helped his seven brothers look aftert heir father's flo cks. Though he was youngest,David was a stron g, brave boy who loved andt rusted God. He l ived in the town of Be thlehem.

    Once a lion attack ed the flock to snatch a littlelamb for supper. Young David attacked the

    at tacker. Pulling the lam b away,he grabbed the snar ling beast

    by its beard and k illed it.David knew Godhadhelped him.

    is the one."

    "Choose a man for yourselves, and let hi m comedown to me!" Goliath shouted. "If he is able to

    fight with me and kill me, then we will be your ser vants. But if I kill him , then you

    shall be our servants and serv e us."

    T hen David said t o Saul, "Let no man'sheart fail because of him; your servantwill go and fight w ith this Philistine."Saul wanted David to wear armor andcarry a sword. In stead, David took hissling and picked fi ve smooth stonesf rom the brook.

    Goliath laughed when he saw that young Davidwasn't even weari ng armor. "I will give your flesht o the birds of th e air and the beasts o f the field!"

    he roared. "I c ome to youin the name o f the

    LORD!" Davidanswered. "This daythe LORD will deliver you into my hands . . .for the b attle is the

    LORD's!"

    Again, King Saul's mind was troubled. S o Davidplayed music to try and soothe him. T hree

    times Saul t hrew his spear at Dav id.But David escaped each time.

    Saul was afraid of David,

    because he knew t he LORDwas with him, but haddeparted from Sa ul.

    But Jonathan, Sau l's son, loved David as a brother. "My fa ther Saul seeks to kil l

    you," he warned David. So David escape d.His wife put a dum my in his bed, and let David down from the window in themiddle of the nigh t. When Saul'smen came in the m orning, David

    was gone.

    punished for our si ns. Then Jesus came bac k to life andwent home to Hea ven! If you believe in Je sus and askHim to forgive you r sins, He will do it! He will come and

    live in you now, and you will live with Himforever.If you want to t urn from your sins, say th is to God:Dear God, I b elieve that Jesus died for me and

    now lives again. Please come into my life andforgive my sins, so that I can have new l ife now,and one day go to be with You forever. Help me
